belly band disaster so for the first time today i used Gatsby belly bad because we are going to a friends moms house and she has cats and i didn't want him to mark. He peed in it when we got out the car and i had to wash and blow dry it before i could put him down. then when he tried to mark the litter box the band did its job but i had to take it off wash and dry it again then he layed down for a while and when i picked him up to head home he smelled terrible and i took the belly band off i noticed he had marked in it again and his belly was red because he was sitting in his own pee what an i doing wrong im not sure im using it correctly his band is made of a kind of book sock sorta materiel and it streches i got it from a woman at a craft fair she gave it to me for free and said that if i liked it i could buy some more then but i dont understand could someone please tell me what kind they have and whear they got it and maybe why mine diddent work so well thanks |
Are you putting maxi pads in the belly band? |
yes i bought some just for his belly bands |
You need to put incontinence pads in the band, they hold much more than sanitary pads will and they will keep the urine drawn away from his skin so it doesn't get irritated. Several YT members recommended I use the Walmart brand of the Poise ultimate size pad, and they work great! I have left one of Jordy for several hours and it held every drop so that band wasn't even soiled. |
If the pad is in it you shouldnt need to be washing it ,the pad should catch the urine.Maybe he wriggles it loose????? |

Ok, I use the non-elastic ones, those don't put the pressure on them. I am suprised he his soaking threw them that quick. |
it also smells really really bad could that just be from the sent marking |

I have bought reusable puppy pads from Petsmart and they work very well and are good quality. Now I order mine from YT member RDB11 I think is his username - he has a thread in the yorkie products for sale section. His are excellent quality and much less expensive than those at petsmart. His service is great, too. |
sorry i meant belly bands and typed out potty pads sorry |
My little Joey is a hiker. I make his belly bands. He is about 6 lbs and I take a very soft flannel and sew it to be 4 inches wide 15 inches long. I then check fit it to him and attach velcro allowing it to be able to be a little tighter or looser. I then purchase the carefree pantiliners and put in the center of the belly band. BEFORE i put it on Joey, we go potty and I make sure he pee pees. Then we put the band on. It is designed to aid in the marking the little boys just love to do. Not as a way to actually releve himself. If we are traveling he will have his band on, but just as we get ready to enter the home we are visiting, the band comes off and He goes potty. Then put the band back on. I have to do this at night when I allow him to go to bed with us. I clean up his markings and he wants to put them back. I hope this helps you, I check his band as we leave the house we visit and change out the pantyliner if needed (and it is) also I keep the moist wipes and use these to keep him clean. Also 1st thing in the am I remove the band and then take him potty. I don't leave it on him while we are at home unless I have cleaned the house and might be expecting guest. Or I have gone shopping, then he gets banded before I start to bring in the purchases unless I want to find wee wee on them. Little Stinkers. Joey is learning what the banding means. And he thinks he is special when he wears his |
