If you are using a good absorbent pad he shouldn't be that wet in just a few hours. I use Stayfree Deodorant Maxi pads for their belly bands. It absorbs a lot plus it is scented so it helps keep them smelling fresh. |

Don't use the menstrual pads...they don't work! Quote:
You need to get incontinence pads. Any size will work. I use the Tena (they're cheaper) and cut them in half, width-wise so each pad gives you two pee pee pads. Get plenty of belly bands so you can change often if they get wet on the edge. Be sure to wash off your puppy's urine area so they don't get stinky or irritated....most of the time just clear water will do. Pat him dry and place the clean band and pad on and you're set for another few hours. |
Thanks for this detailed and extremely helpful thread! I have just ordered 2 belly bands from YorkieHaven Rescue. Because of your comments I can go out and buy the correct pads to have ready when the bands arrive. Meanwhile, I have a few questions for posters here. Oliver will be 15 next month and shows occasional signs of confusion. He's developed a marking problem but our vet advised against belly bands, saying that he's seen too many resulting urinary tract infections. However, no one here has mentioned that problem: so am i correct in assuming it can be avoided with the kind of meticulous care described in this thread? Has anyone had problems w/ belly bands and UT infections? I'd also be grateful to hear from anyone who began using the BBs when their Yorkies were advanced seniors like Oliver. How did your dog adapt? Any chance that the BB can revive old potty training habits? Thanks, all ! |
How many pads do you put on the belly band? I put the Kotex panty liners. I put 3 of those liners....yes 3 that will last almost an entire day . What I do is buy like 20-40 Kotex coupons in ebay , they cost like $1 or $2 and they are $1 off any Kotex pantyliners. Walmart sells them for $1.00 So I buy 40 packs of Kotex Liners for for like $3 and that is tax only that I'm paying. This will last me a few months. I cut out the BOX TOPS and when I get abotu 70 boxtops, I sell those in ebay and get my money back that I paid for the coupons plus the tax I paid. So I end up paying $0 Sounds confusing but I learned this and thats the only way I get the pads now. Gen |

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but I've been thinking..are belly bands only for boys, or can they be used for girls as well?..maybe a different pattern? |

Have you thought of putting pet stairs or a ramp next to your bed so that Sophie Mei can get up and down on her own? I would be so afraid she might try to jump off and hurt herself one of these days. |
When I first read this post, the only experience I had had with the male inside dog was my Joey. He will go to his pad or outside to pee pee, but would have to MARK everything he passed, this is just a few dribbles. But what a mess. Thanks for all the information I might need in the future. I hadn't even thought about when Joey gets to his senior years. You guys are the greatest!!! And very very crafty!!! |
