They absolutely smile .... google "submissive grin." My previous yorkie, Loosie, would smile on command. It started with her doing a normal submissive grin, which usually is just the lips pulled open and the teeth showing. I would always respond to it by calling her a "smiley girl" and giving her more attention. As time went on, the smile became more and more pronounced, with her lowering her head, cocking it to the side, and opening her mouth up wide. Just talking to her about smiling would set her off, and she knew that was a sure fire way to get attention when she wanted it. My new pup smiles when I've got her on her back, rubbing her belly. It isn't as pronounced as Loosie yet, but I bet we'll get there before long. |
