I will echo what you are seeing here, and that is look before you leap into breeding. It can be very dangerous for the bitch, and heart breaking (not to mention wallet breaking) for you. If you choose to breed, I hope that you find a mentor, to stand by you. There are tones of tearful threads here, take a good look.

The only reason I became offended is because you never addressed my issues, you only focused on the fact that stated that I had a desire to breed in the future. It is a free forum and we all have different opinions. That is what truly makes this forum useful because it gives several viewpoints on issues. All I ask is that when you read the issues that are posted, that you address the issue and not so much bash the things that are mentioned that you may feel aren't up to your standards. Everyone on here at some point or another need advice and would like to have it from one yorkie talk family member to another.

I'll tell you the truth... when I first got Jackson, as a new pet owner, sometimes I thought the same thing... oh maybe it would be fun to breed him, he would have adorable puppies. After much research, reading here on YT, etc, I couldn't believe I had ever once thought that way. He's way over standard at 12.5lbs, he's got an overbite, his coloring is not "correct," he's longer than most, etc. I LOVE him more than anything and wouldn't trade him for any 4lb Yorkie ever. He's perfect to me. But he shouldn't be bred. Plus, I prefer my boy to not mark indoors, be concerned with humping every dog he meets or worry about him impregnating another dog.

Technically, yes, the reputable breeders ARE adding to the population as well... but like CouversMom stated.. they are there to better the breed. Without them, we would no longer have purebreds or standards for dogs. People choose a Yorkie for a reason usually, they like the look, temperament, etc... without the professional breeders bettering the breed, we would no longer have that guarantee. They spay and neuter their puppies that they are not going to keep for breeding. And they have A LOT of sacrifces in order to be a breeder. Most will tell you that you do sort of "lose your pet" because he's now a male with raging hormones, only concerned about mating. Once they have that once, they want it again. That's not to say they're not sweet dogs. Especially the popular breeds, such as the Golden Retriever and the Yorkie. They're sooo overbred, it's not even funny, and without regard to their health. Golden Retrivers used to be known as the best family dogs... they're now number two or three on the list for DOG BITES. Why? Because humans, us, people, have inbred them so much and not taken any note to their health, temperament, etc. That was human beings doing.

And I DID give you advice. The whole purpose of my post was to explain that the behavior will most likely continue throughout your dogs entire life if they don't get fixed. Sorry. That's just the bottom line. Yes, discipline should be enforced and you can help the issue but it's never going to completely go away.

Eventually you will understand. It took a while for it to sink in to me, too... but you will soon realize how big of an issue this is. It's not just "having puppies" because you want to "sell them for cheap." If you can't afford the Yorkie in the first place, what is going to happen when your "cheap dog" gets violently ill and costs you $5000 in vet bills? Turn him into the shelter? Let him die because you can't afford it? I would never personally pay over $1000 for a dog, and I'm not against people selling dogs for less in any way... but it's just an issue that has to be addressed when purchasing "a cheap dog". If you're looking for one of those, go to the shelter! There are MILLIONS of great animals, puppies, adults and seniors that need homes. They're usually under $300 and already been spayed/neutered and had all shots.

I agree with this: Everyone on here at some point or another need advice and would like to have it from one yorkie talk family member to another. That's why I'm giving you advice. Because when I first joined, I learned SO much that I wouldn't have EVER known without the site. I'd like to share my knowledge with other YT members.

I would not leave my dog in the car while I go shop in a supermarket. Would you leave your children in a car while you shopped? No, A dog? Maybe. So why would someone leave the dog in a car and not a toddler? Is the toddler more important that a pup? If that is the case, we can clearly see what sort of person would let their dog reproduce aimlessly contributing dog dog population and which one would not. I know where I stand.
That double standard I will not understand, and frankly I don't have to.

I agree! Humans have the ability to control, yet they don't apply it to themselves. It's sad! There are dogs put to sleep each year, but there are ALSO A LOT OF CHILDREN OUT THERE suffering and dying each year. These children don't even have the ability to be put to sleep! They have to suffer before they die! You think about it before asking others to think about it!

In addition, if you are really concerned, perhaps you can take actions into stoppin puppy mills rather than arguing with others on TY. Puppy mills relentlessly produce puppies without attending to them and they are a HUGE (not the main, but majority) reason dogs are overpopulated.
