Prayers please for a successful spaying tomorrow I know several people have asked for prayers, but I am feeling so nervous tonight. I believe in the power of prayer, so please, if you have a moment, please say a prayer for my little girl. Sydney is getting spayed tomorrow. I drop her off at 8 a.m. and I don't pick her up until about 4 or 5 tomorrow afternoon. I am thinking I'll keep my jammie top with her so she has something familiar. Question: The vet told me, but is it no food, treats, AND water after midnight? Can you tell I'm anxious. I know spayings happy everyday, but this is the first time for us. Please keep us in your prayers. Sincerely, Sonya |
Of COURSE I extend Sydney and yourself my thoughts and prayers for her spaying tomorrow! I have Zoey scheduled in a couple of weeks and they told me no food after 10pm (tho I know most say after midnight) but that water was okay. |
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow. Just try and relax. I know that's impossible. |
Will say a little prayer for Sydney, I am sure she will be just fine!! Bailey was neutered and I was told no food or water after 8pm. |
Thank you for the replies. I knew I could turn here for encouragement. We've been playing and resting tonight. I just know she's going to give me those sad eyes when I drop her off that say, "Mom--how could you?" |
Prayers coming your way. My Willow will be spayed after the holidays and I'm scared to death even now thinking about it. When Chloe was spayed I think she couldn't have food or water, at least that is what I remember. Best of luck to you. |
Thank you, Camile. I'll let you know how it goes. I have a couple websites open on how to care for her when she comes home. I am wondering if she will have to return to have stitches removed, or will she get the dissolving ones. Her last drink for the night and treat will be at 8. |
Prayers coming your way!!!!! |

We'll keep Sydney in our thoughts and prayers. Maggie May also had about 4 teeth removed at the time of her spay. She was in a little bit of pain the night of her spay but once she got some pain meds, she quieted right down. She kinda kept to herself that night but by morning she was a bit more social although still a little quiet. By the next day she was back to her ol' self pretty much. :) Don't be shy about asking the vet for pain meds. Also make sure to ask if you can give her some the same evening...we had to call and wait to hear back from the vet. Maggie had the dissolving type of stitches so we didn't have to go back to have them removed. Sidney will be just fine. :) Hugs. |
Sending prayers your way Sydney:animal-pa. I was nervous when Sophie was spayed, too. Everything came out fine as I'm sure it will for your little girl. Sophie was good to go in about a day and it was hard to make her rest. I know tomorrow will be a long day for you but she'll be back in your arms in no time.:) |
I will be praying for Sydney. It is always scary when our little guys have to go through being put to sleep for surgery or dentals. I was that way when Bogie was neutered and when Jada had her dental in Oct. |
Oh, thank you everyone. You don't know what this means to me to have this forum at my fingertips. She's been losing several baby teeth and I was hoping they would fall out before tomorrow. Hopefully, the vet won't have to take many if any at all, and I hope he knows the difference between the baby teeth and the adult ones. |
I will keep Sydney in my prayers. |
Thank you, Patti. Syd is at the vet's. I can call to check on her at 2 this afternoon. They're running tests on her, like they would on people, prior to surgery to make sure she's healthy enough for anesthesia. The receptionist told me that three people had already canceled having their dog spayed today because they forgot and fed them breakfast. I put my jammie top inside her bag. I couldn't tell you who was shaking more, her or me. |
I'll keep Sydney (and mommy) in my prayers today. Lola was spayed last Thursday so I understand the feelings. Lola is just over 4 pounds, and in addition to her spay had hernia repair and 2 teeth extracted that required stitches. She did great. She stayed an extra night in the hospital and was pretty subdued for the first 2 days, but is bouncing back quickly now. I agree with the others, get pain meds and use them. It keeps them much more comfortable and lets them sleep. I'm sure Sydney will do wonderfully. We're all here for you while you anxiously wait:heart to |
Thank you for sharing your story with me. That makes me feel better. Your baby had lots done, but I'm glad she's doing well. I like it when others share their stories because it makes it easier to know what to expect. Syd is being sent home with pain meds and I'll make sure to ask if she can have more tonight or wait until morning. I can't imagine having surgery and having teeth pulled without pain meds during recovery. They're also going to give me a cone to put around her head so she doesn't chew on the stitches. |
Lola was also sent home with a cone, but we haven't used it yet. I found a tip on here for getting baby onesies to keep them in, and that worked fairly well at first. Only problem was she's so little she kept shimmying out of them at night:) I ended up taking part of a sleeve from a turtleneck, cutting holes in it for her legs, and she's doing great in that. Not the most fashionable dress, but it serves the purpose and keeps her (and her brother Toby) from bothering the incision area! Depending on how big Sydney is, the onesies might be a good thing to try. Hang in there, I know today will seem like the longest day ever, but it will pass:heart to |

I just talked to the vet's office. Syd is resting comfortably. I can pick her up between 3:30 and 4 today. I'm not sure if I'll use the cone or not. I like the idea of making a onesy for her. What you suggested, Mom to Hot Rod, looks great, but I probably don't have time to get one now. Thank you, though for your prayers. I miss my little girl, but she's coming home soon. |
Yay! I am glad to hear you little girl is coming home and doing good. |
I will pray for Sydney's speedy recovery! She will do fine! My little Rio was spayed just 3 weeks ago and she's back to her bouncy self! She even gained some weight and is now 3 lbs! |
It took me awhile to get back here to check, but I'm soo happy to hear Sydney did well and should be coming home soon!! She'll most likely sleep a lot, which will be nice for you to just sit and love on her:) If you decide to do the onesie, one thing someone on here suggested is to cut a hole in it for the tail, which I hadn't thought about. Lola hated having her tail covered, so it would be worth a try. Glad to hear she did well, and now you can breathe easier. Keep us posted on her recovery please.:heart to Toby and Lola send get well wishes to her! |
Great news. I have been checking throughout the day. I am so glad Sydney did well with her surgery. I know you can't wait to have her in your arms. |
I wish that I saw this earlier, but I can still add my thought for you and your little preciouse baby!! I not to long ago had one of my fur babie fixed. Granted mine are both boys and maybe not as seriouse as a female getting fixed. I know exactly what you went through last night and are now going through. See Rocky is 2 years old, I waited WAY to long to get it done. So I had the guilt from that on my mind. (still do to be honest with you) Then I had to listen to my dad all darn day long saying things like, "Getting him cut won't help him spraying at your sisters when you are up there!" and "I hope he sprays twice as bad as he did before." I was like geeze dad thanks for the encouraging words and makinging me feel so at ease about this whole thing, NOT!! I was wanting to slap him silly... But Rocky is doing great!! The surgery was the same as what you are going through, I took him in early and then was able to pick him up that night, or 3ish. All the next day he was lathargic and not like the Rocky I knew and loved. Then doesn't my dad say... "See by getting him cut, you changed his personality!!" Well I was already feeling so bad that he was acting like that I just broke down and my dad had the guts to say... "What are you crying for" I then was a total bundle of nerves and I let him have it!! See my boys are more then just dogs to me!! They are like my children to to me, seeing as I will never have them. So I tend to put them on a higher pedistool so to say then I think most people do. I have even have people say to me... HELLO they are just dogs... well not to me!! You are both in my thoughts and prayers and I am here for you if you ever need to talk about anything!! hugs and love |
Glad Sydney's surgery is over and went well. Sending get well wishes to her and hope she has a speedy recovery:getwellso |
Thank you, everyone. Syd is home resting. She hasn't climbed out of her bag yet. She will open her eyes and look at me, but then she's down again. The vet only had to pull three baby teeth, so that was good. I have an old shirt that I'm ready to cut the arms off to make her a onesie. The vet also said this was a better idea than the cone. Much more comfortable. In case someone is wondering about cost and is doing research, the cost came to $180. We do need to return in 10-14 days to have the sutures removed, but that's included in the cost. A note to Angie: I am so sorry that you had to go through that with your dad. It's nerve wracking enough without having someone from the peanut gallery chiming in. I'm glad your boys are doing well. Sincerely, Sonya |
We are so glad to hear that Syd is home and resting peacefully. We will continue to hold you both in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and comfortable recovery! ((Gentle huggs)) |

Sydney was up to 5lbs. Do you think she's back down to 4lbs. since they removed her uterus? lol She had a few nibbles of Thanksgiving turkey. She also had a bowel movement and went number one on her wee wee pad. I'm thinking that this is all a good sign. I'll give her a pain pill around 9 since she's keeping food down. I haven't been able to get her to drink water, though. She is so out of it, the poor thing. She keeps giving me these sad eyes. When I have carried her, I try to scoop her up, but she has cried a couple of times. I just pray she'll sleep it off tonight and be a bit better tomorrow. Thank you again for your continued prayers. Sincerely, Sonya |
