Your Opinion on Pit Bulls I don't want this to turn into a heated discussion, just want your opinions. Do you believe all pit bulls are bad? IMO I don't believe that. For example Nala my little 9lbs yorkie is more agressive than my boyfriends 65lbs pit bull. His dog minds better than any dog I've ever seen. Of course it took a lot of training. Yes, some do attack but not all. And I think it is wrong for pit bulls to be classified as "dangerous" when other dogs, big and small can be called the same thing. |
My little peanut.... 2 Attachment(s) My Hubby and I have a 55 lb. pit bull he is barely 1yr. old last month. He is the SWEETEST doggie ever. When he was small and even now, he would love to sleep on the bed with me and hubby but in the middle and would try to hold me like my hubby was supposed to, (you know, spoon me)..... he is very sweet and non violent, just hyper.. I believe it has alot to do with the way you bring them up. Some people for some reason love fighting animals I believe it is cruel and unusual punishment for them, but that's my opinion. I love and hate to see the animal channel when they do those rescues.. some people just don't deserve to have animals much less kids.. but just my opinion. Here is my little peanut!! :animal36 |
I believe that they are as dangerous as thier human parents teach them to be.... we had 2 rotts, and I was more afraid of my yorkie biting someone than them... rotts are very smart dogs, they can be taught to be vicious or nice. Our dogs thought they were lap dogs (one we still have the other is at rainbow bridge) and our yorkie is alpha dog around here, the rotts listened to her, and did as they were told by her.... (she is the youngest also, well now her pup is) It is all in the upbringing I think.... |
my girlfriend has a female pit bull.. let me tell you, this dog is the most loving dog ever... never heard her growl , hardly barks. just want to be loved, loved, and more love.... so, not all of them are bad...just labeled |
I Think Pitbulls Are A Great Breed I Think The People That Make The Dogs Do Bad Things Should Be Punished Not The Poor Dogs |
I don't think any breed is bad. You get out of your babies, what you put in to them. If you don't train & work with your puppies they have no idea how to act. If you leave them outside all day with nothing to do. What can one expect. Rotti's are called dangerous too. Well I have one who thinks she's a Yorkie. She wants to sit on your lap, just like Princess. So like I said, it's what you put in to them. :) |

I don't think ANY dog breed is bad. I think it's the OWNERS who are bad! If you raise your dog to be violent, then it will be. I have seen a violent 2 lb Chihuahua and a sweet, loving and meek 65 lb Rotti. I think all dogs need to be trained, socialized and of course LOVED. |
I don't believe Pit Bulls are bad dogs. My parents have one and Hailey gets along better with her than my sister's 8 pound Min Pin. |
I dont think all pit bulls are bad at all. I think pit bull are just more prone to have basic animal instincts and act upon them. But most of all I think they end up in the wrong hands. It is my opinion that probobly 70% of people who own them shouldnt and they own them for the wrong reason- they want a bad ass tough scary dog(I apologize if I am offending anyone but I am basing my opinion off what I see inthe news and mostly all the shows I see on animal planet). These people use them in fighting rings, etc and just leave them chained up outside with llittle regard to them. It always seems that people with little money to properly care for them own them, and also pitbulls seem big with gangs so of course they get bad reps. I used to watch animal cops detroit and pit bulls were a huge problem there because basically poverty stricken neighborrhoods were full of them and either questionable characters/gang type people or little kids were owning the dogs and it is "cool" to have pitbull fighting rings there. It pisses me off because everytime the animal cops captured a pitbull(which was ALOT) they had to put them to sleep becasue the dogs are raised to be aggressive and this behavior can not be easily reveresed. Just sad. |

I do not trust PIT BULLS with my YORKIES but thats just me |

I dunno.. i reall believe that it is how they are brought up. If they live in a loving home then they will probably be good dogs.. If they are left outside chained up all day with no water..then yeah i can see why they would be mean!! |

Ok dogs have moods just like we do. Now,,,,, you take a 50 + size dog and you take a tiny dog like the size of most of our yorkies,,, what dog do you think will do more damage. I don't care how sweet the dog is or what kind of loving owners it has. I have shared this story before but, my brother had a pit, beautiful dog! She was so sweet well mannered and loved their other dog Emmit. Emmit was a Jack Russel. They loved to play together, were best friends and although my brother was causious with the difference in size, he felt that Goldie would never hurt Emmit. One night he was awoken by the most ugly sounds. He heard growling like he had never heard before followed by crying like he had never hear before. By the time he got to them, the crying had stopped and it was quiet. Goldie was standing outside the dog house but Emmit was no place to be found. My brother called out to him, and heard scratching from what he thought was coming from the back of the doghouse. He thought Emmit was behind the house and moved the house by picking up the back of the house,, he then noticed the pool of blood that came out of the doghouse and found Emmit in there bleeding. Alive but not able to move. my brother got a blanket and rushed him to the Vet, Poor Emmit back was broken, Had a chunk of flesh missing on the side of him neck, and was bleeding internaly. There was nothing they could do to save him. I could go on and on,,,,,, this is has been a hot topic before and you will find that people will defend their big dogs to the end. They all say the same thing, No not my dog, He/she is the sweetest dog ever. Or I hear this one alot,,,,, There is no bad breed just bad owners. I guess I would defend my big dog too. Well my brother loved his pets and were both spoiled and well mannered, loving, and sweet dogs. But, In my own opinion, I would not have both big and tiny dogs at the same time and if I did, they would not interact with eachother unsurpervised. and even then I would be worried. As far as them turning on you, I've seen alot of different breeds to this. I'm not saying all big dogs are going to turn on their owners or anyone else for that matter but,,,,,,,, tiny, mall, big, very big,,,, they are animals. And any animal can trun on you. It just all depends on what sets them off. |
I'm on the opposite side of this argument (just my opinions here, not impossing them on others). I think that for the most part the owners have a lot to do with it, but the breed is just vicious. Most of the stories you hear talk about how the families said that they are part of the family, and they have always been great/quiet dogs and they have never attacked anyone. But then something like this happens. That only further proves to ME that these dogs, though can be docile for long periods of time, WILL snap eventually. There's a lot wrong with the breeding of all dogs but with this breed it can be deadly. I've heard about a lot of inbreeding and all kinds of things that give them mental problems. I would NEVER trust a pit bull even if it's the saint dog of the century. It only takes one wrong move to risk getting your face ripped off by them. AGAIN JUST MY OPINION. |
:thumbdown you want my side of it, read the closed threads on pits. that will give you an idea. |

A lot of people feel that if you had the choice between getting bit by a chihuahua or by a Put Bull, which would you choose? Obviously the Chihuahua because it's a much smaller dog and a Pit Bull bite can do worse damage and even kill. But that does not mean that ALL Pit Bulls are bad. Now, even though I believe this .... I would not trust a Pit Bull with my Yorkie and/or Maltese. This is just my personal preference so please don't slam me. |
Pit Bulls are great animals. But much like other large animals, care must be taken when they are around smaller animals. You wouldn't leave your little toddler in a room of football players right? Same thing w/ our dogs. I was walking my Yorkie and Maltese the other week. And one of the local neighbors had a large labrador. I know my Yorkie gets a bit aggressive/barky when there are other large dogs around (they intimidate him), but before my Yorkie could bark...the lab made a dash towards us from across the street. I immediately covered my Yorkie and Maltese w/ my body while the owners grabbed their lab. Luckily, the lab never made it across the street. It could've been hit by a Jeep that stopped. It is not so much the breed...but the size of the animal. Small dogs are intimidated and respond w/ an increased amount of aggression. Larger dogs are usually more mellow, but will react to the nervousness and anxiety of smaller animals. This is what causes the problems...both animals acting of each other's behaviors. |

I agree! I think ANY breed can be TAUGHT to be bad/agressive...Pits are given a bad rep by the media because this is the only DOG breed they will report on if something goes wrong... XoXoXo Fran and Sammi Pics are of Sammi and our Pit rescue Storm :) |
I dont have much experience with pitbulls either, but I can say that "no not all pit bulls are bad". I know that I am cautious when I see one though, probably all the media stories have made me feel that way, because I really didnt know about them till they started popping up on the news. About a month ago I was getting ready to leave my home and I let my son and Bia out in the front to get in the car. I let Bia sniff for a couple minutes, and then put them in the car. As soon as i got in the car I seen 3 pitbulls comming around the corner right in front of my house, 1 of them had blood all over its chest and face. There were police cars following them trying to catch them and yelling at anyone who was outside to get inside. I dont know if they ever caught them but I sat in my car for a minute and thought if I had come out even a minute later or even let my son and Bia stay in the front a minute longer, those dogs could of attacked them both or even killed them and they could have been the next news story. That was very scary for me to even think about. I really believe people make dogs the way they are, so if pitbulls are in the right hands they probably are just like any other dog. |

My cousin owns a Pit bull and she is the sweetest dog ever. Only cause she know us and I know her I allowed Gucci to interact with her. Of course Gucci was terrifed and didnt want anything to do with Tasha(Pit). In another hand, I dont trust any other dog around Gucci that I dont know. When I take Gucci out for her walks and I see dogs comming by I usually carry her. I guess is my fault that she gets scare around other dogs. I just get so scared that she can get injured . My neihbor has a Rotti, Baby is very sweet and playful. I tried for them to play but she was so playful that scare Gucci off. I agreed that Pits have a bad rap but I still dont trust them around Gucci, unless I know this dog for a long time and Im present during the interaction. It doesnt matter if is a Pit or any other breed, Im just very cautious cause you never know. |

Like I always say,,,,, I much rather have my ass bitten by a 5 lbs pom then chewed off by a pitbull!!!!! That's why they have the bad rap,,, almost always the pitbull WILL do damage where as other attacks of other breeds do not result in loss of life or disfigurement,,, therefor do not do get reported as often as the pit. |
