yes yes :d |
2 better than one I'm glad someone else asked this question as I've been meaning to. Belle is just over a year old. We got her 4 months after I lost my Abby (miniature Schnauzer) she really helped heal my broken heart. We have an 11 year old lab that was grieving for Abby to and Belle adopted him right away. It took him a couple weeks to accept that she was staying. She didn't really give him any choice. She is very attatched to her mommy but is never far from her big brother. She cuddles with him and he is her favorite toy. I am wondering when we lose our Lab, how is Belle going to do? I would love to get another little girl for her to have as company but I also like that she is so bonded to me. I don't work so I'm home with her almost all the time. Just wanted YT's thoughts. I'd have a whole house full if I could but my husband thinks Belle is more than enough! |
My HONEST answer is YES. My Yorkies truly enjoy playing together. We run out of energy WAY before they do. They say Yorkies are like Doritos, "you can't have just one". |
I thought about getting a playmate but I like to take Burton out with me whenever I can and two would be harder to manage. Burt was sick and I ended up with an $800 vet bill I can't imagine if that was doubled! I'm lucky to know a lot of people with small dogs so he has tons of friends. Burton gets jealous when I play with other dogs, so I'm sticking with one. Just other things to think about. |
Dogs are pack animals & shouldn't be left alone imo. Our neighbor has a pommie & she cries all day long. So sad, sometimes mine will call out to her as if to say, 'Hi there, don't be lonely & sad...we're right here':p She'll be quiet for a few minutes & start her crying again. When we first got Mimi, she wasn't left alone much (I always took her to work w/me), but she was a totally different dog after we got Momo. She was soo much happier.:D |
I have two, and want to add a third! I spend about $30 every 3 or so months on food, and it's an all natural food. Vet bills come out to oh, $100 per year or so, if that...VERY rough estimate, cause I don't feel like actually thinking too hard. I think my boys LOVE having each other, and I'm sure they would welcome another. Dogs are pack animals, so I think they prefer multiples to one. |
Thanks, everyone, for all your wonderful responses...It seems the pros definitely outweigh the cons...As you probably have noticed, I took the plunge and brought home a little boy, yesterday...He's four months old, and a little sweetie pie...Things are going well...However, we did have a little "this is my house and you'll do as I say" from Apple, not me:eek:...I was soooooo shocked!!!...I've never seen Apple take dominance over a doodle-bug, but this just seemed like an very important issue to her...In the sceme of things, I think this is the best situation for Apple and Me (he's a little snuggle bug too:))...Will post pictures, as soon as I can find my usb cord to my cell phone lol... p.s. I'm "sneaking" my cuddles w/Buzz 'till she gets her female emotions under control  |
Most definately I definately think 2 is better!! I love the fact that they have a playmate or companion when I am not home. They love each other too...its too cute to watch them cuddle together and lick each other and play together. I recommend it! |

Harley was an only dog for 7 years. He started to act like an old dog too, laying around all the time, sleeping alot and getting fat. When we got Scooter about 1 1/2 yrs ago, Harley got young again! Since then we've added 3 more for a total of 5. Harley is almost 9 now and acts like a puppy again, I know he's happier. All of them get along well, playing and watching over one another. They are a happy pack and I would add more if I could, but for now I'm still potty training the 2 little ones so another one will have to wait a while.:D |
We have three! They are terrific! They really keep each other company and do so much for one another playing and everything. I would go for it! |
