Are Two Better Than One??? Is Yorkie Mommyhood easier or more difficult w/two, rather than one? I know the vet expense is doubled, and the food bill (especially if you feed raw) and double brushing and bathing and combing, when you're not paying the double grooming bill, but how 'bout in general? Is it more difficult to walk two? Do they really play w/each other more than playing by themself? Do you think your pairs or treos or quadruples like their worlds better because of their brothers and or sisters, or do you think they would just prefer to be only furkids? |
I can only speak for myself, but my two get along great together. They play with each other, sleep together on the same bed and I don't know what I would do without both of them. Jada was an only furbutt for just about 3 months and DH was the one who wanted to get her a sibling. I couldn't believe it, because he wasn't sure about getting a small dog when I told him about Jada. We just love having two. They are so much fun. |

The more the marrier to me! LOL I think boy/girl plays together more and get along great. Well my 2 boys get along great too and play like crazy. I do have problems with girl/girl. They tend more to fight. |
I think it depends on the dog. Some might prefer to be 'onlies'; and others would love a playmate. Ringo does well with Lucy - but probably would have been just as happy doing his own thing. Don't think you are going to feel less guility going off to work - at first - when your new dog is still a puppy. That was my plan too and I feel guiltier than ever! Double the guilt! However, I think when Lucy is older and I don't have to crate her so much when I am gone . . . they will be good company for each other. Then I plan on feeling less guilty! That's my two cents. Just added Lucy about a month ago. |
I Fink 2 Is Better. i Av A little Boy.. I Feel So Evil Leavin Him For Work... I Cant Wait To Get A Little Brother Or Sister For Him... XXX |
There's no way for me to get another one :( 1st, I live in an apartment, 2nd, Sugar doesn't even allow me to hug my niece, jealousy... ;) |
Pros and Cons.....But the Pros out weigh the Cons....;) |
I got my female in May, she was 13 weeks old and my husband told me she needed a friend so I got a male in June and he was 12 weeks old. It was the best thing I could have done. They love each other and play ,sleep and eat together. They are never alone so even though I hate to leave them at least they are together. I am thinking about maybe getting a 3rd one, but I would hate to mess up a good thing. |
I have 6 and I would have more if my house was bigger! hhhmmm LOL |
Got the 2nd one on Saturday and I am happy with the decision. Chloe and Dylan are happy to be together. :) |
I have been really wanting to get Reese a playmate, but I would get another girl. I just couldn't imagine sharing my love though. |
I'm just waiting for my 2nd baby girl to come home. I know that Missy will love her to bits. If I could, I would have 20 :p |
Yeah, sometimes (bath time) I wish I just had the one, but they get along and play and sleep together and it's so much fun to watch them play/fight together. Moses and Isabel are such different personalities. Moses is so attached to me that I think he would have to be medicated for anxiety if he was left alone, but with Izzy, he has a companion and he is fine. Now, Izzy could probably do without Mosey, but that's another story! |
Since you are already ok with 2x expenses and grooming time, I think getting a second yorkie is a great idea. They look so happy when they play together and it's so much fun to watch them too!!! Make the walk more fun too!! I love to walk in a trail with my dogs walking freely around me. :) |
yes yes :d |
2 better than one I'm glad someone else asked this question as I've been meaning to. Belle is just over a year old. We got her 4 months after I lost my Abby (miniature Schnauzer) she really helped heal my broken heart. We have an 11 year old lab that was grieving for Abby to and Belle adopted him right away. It took him a couple weeks to accept that she was staying. She didn't really give him any choice. She is very attatched to her mommy but is never far from her big brother. She cuddles with him and he is her favorite toy. I am wondering when we lose our Lab, how is Belle going to do? I would love to get another little girl for her to have as company but I also like that she is so bonded to me. I don't work so I'm home with her almost all the time. Just wanted YT's thoughts. I'd have a whole house full if I could but my husband thinks Belle is more than enough! |
My HONEST answer is YES. My Yorkies truly enjoy playing together. We run out of energy WAY before they do. They say Yorkies are like Doritos, "you can't have just one". |
I thought about getting a playmate but I like to take Burton out with me whenever I can and two would be harder to manage. Burt was sick and I ended up with an $800 vet bill I can't imagine if that was doubled! I'm lucky to know a lot of people with small dogs so he has tons of friends. Burton gets jealous when I play with other dogs, so I'm sticking with one. Just other things to think about. |
Dogs are pack animals & shouldn't be left alone imo. Our neighbor has a pommie & she cries all day long. So sad, sometimes mine will call out to her as if to say, 'Hi there, don't be lonely & sad...we're right here':p She'll be quiet for a few minutes & start her crying again. When we first got Mimi, she wasn't left alone much (I always took her to work w/me), but she was a totally different dog after we got Momo. She was soo much happier.:D |
I have two, and want to add a third! I spend about $30 every 3 or so months on food, and it's an all natural food. Vet bills come out to oh, $100 per year or so, if that...VERY rough estimate, cause I don't feel like actually thinking too hard. I think my boys LOVE having each other, and I'm sure they would welcome another. Dogs are pack animals, so I think they prefer multiples to one. |
Thanks, everyone, for all your wonderful responses...It seems the pros definitely outweigh the cons...As you probably have noticed, I took the plunge and brought home a little boy, yesterday...He's four months old, and a little sweetie pie...Things are going well...However, we did have a little "this is my house and you'll do as I say" from Apple, not me:eek:...I was soooooo shocked!!!...I've never seen Apple take dominance over a doodle-bug, but this just seemed like an very important issue to her...In the sceme of things, I think this is the best situation for Apple and Me (he's a little snuggle bug too:))...Will post pictures, as soon as I can find my usb cord to my cell phone lol... p.s. I'm "sneaking" my cuddles w/Buzz 'till she gets her female emotions under control  |
Most definately I definately think 2 is better!! I love the fact that they have a playmate or companion when I am not home. They love each other too...its too cute to watch them cuddle together and lick each other and play together. I recommend it! |

Harley was an only dog for 7 years. He started to act like an old dog too, laying around all the time, sleeping alot and getting fat. When we got Scooter about 1 1/2 yrs ago, Harley got young again! Since then we've added 3 more for a total of 5. Harley is almost 9 now and acts like a puppy again, I know he's happier. All of them get along well, playing and watching over one another. They are a happy pack and I would add more if I could, but for now I'm still potty training the 2 little ones so another one will have to wait a while.:D |
We have three! They are terrific! They really keep each other company and do so much for one another playing and everything. I would go for it! |
