selling dogs after only a few posts...please read I guess this is a question more for administration. If I remember correctly, there was a discussion about how many posts you had to have before you could start advertising, or selling your products, or dogs. It seems that there is a couple of posts here from 'newbies' (people with 6 posts) that are trynig to get rid of their dogs on here. I don't want to sound crabby, but it just seems that in this particular instance, that dogs being sold for $5000 (in my unprofesional opinion) is way too much and the size that is being advertised seems dangerous and unhealthy. Once again, I am not trying to cause an uproar of drama but just curious as to what the rules were for selling things on this site if you are not a contributing, legitimate member that means well. Thanks, Hannah |
That is a good question, I have to wonder, who would want to get rid of their babies???? I guess I missed the post's, because I didn't see any selling babies. I thought this was a questions and answers site, not a selling site, It sure is a fun site I know that! :D But it is a good question! :) |
Im new here and dont want to cause any problems what so ever....But good darn questions~ the whole thing with this poster seems BUNK to me. |

re: puppies That is true. I'm new on here and that is the only reason when I hold my tongue on here. I hate it when I see people who breed their 2-3.5 pound females. I'm tempted to say something, but I've never breed, but I know this can't be healthy. Poor dogs. |

Now I see! I didn't know there was a selling post! I always go to this one! I guess I'm still new!!! :) But you are right! It's still a good question! :D |

In all serouisness....what justifys a 5000.00 or 8500.00 price tag? Listen Im all for reputible breeders, I understand cost of testing ect~ but what would make a pup worth that much even with testing, and great blood lines? |

there are two listed in the for sale section with hefty hefty price tags... |
I think that is a ridiculous amount for any dog. I'm not a nit-picker when it comes to spelling/grammar, etc. on posts, but this person selling the $8500.00 puppy had refrence instead of reference, and sale instead of sell and ad instead of add. Now that doesn's sound like an attorney to me. (like they stated in the first post. That poor little dog, did she even mention why she is selling him? |
I think we all need to be careful not to insult here. I misspell all the time and I am an attorney. I will not judge her because I do not know her and she is not on theis thread. I have seen that price tag and higher for plenty of dogs that will stay tht small. It is not unreasonable in my opinion. I think $500 is unreasonable because it costs at least $1500 for a breeder to properly care for the mother, the litter and all the expenses of the puppy until it is 3 to 6 months old or old enough to be adopted.JMHO I also have no problem with anyone posting in the for sale section if they follow admin's rules. This forum is for the members...all the members....no matter how many posts, and if I were looking for a tiny male yorkie I would be glad that that post was allowed. |
I am glad that I am not the only one who likes corrected spelling and grammer ESPECIALLY when it comes to representing yourself as a knowledgeable breeder. Okay, you can jump on me, but I grew up in WV and one of the things I pride myself on is thet AW don spel and talk soo bad!. Seriously, though, your presentation of the dog is the first contact you have with a perspective buyer and their impression of the breeder can be based in part on how you present what you know. I have seen bezillions of web sites with incorrect spelling. Okay, I am sorry that I got up on the soapbox again. I do agree that the advertising of Yorkies on here is a convenience for the members who are regulars. But, that is my opinion and we know who has them.. |
My problem is not that I don't know how to spell but that I don't know how to type!!! LOL! I would suspect that is the problem with moston here who misspell occasionally. With only a short few minutes to correct errors on here I think we have to be a little more forgiving especially of new members.JMO. :) |
I know I make typos all the time, between spelling and nails, I have a heck of a time getting a post up...lol |
This is only my opinion but I don't have a problem with people advertising their puppies here regardless of how many posts they have or the price tag attached to what they are selling. If I am looking to buy a puppy I appreciate having as many options as possible in finding that new puppy. It is up to each of us to decide who we want to deal with, but I think that option should be left as it is. |

I saw the ads - I love the FOR SALE section also - IF I was selling puppies for a totally outrageous price - I would Not only spell correctly.... I would be the Biggest BUTT KISSER in the world - then... I would buy that boat my husband always wanted :) maybe a new car while I was at it. ......Several descriptive words come to mind when I see those kinds of prices. For those who think it's ok - several more colorful words come to mind about that too. :D ps....I would love spell checker too |
OK! I am going to jump right in to say - I just wish I was the person who could just plop down 5,000 or 10,000 for a dog. I also saw a purse about 20 years ago for $600, it wasn't that cute but the idea of paying that money. I guess I am just a 'rich girl' wanna-be. Maybe in my next life. By the way, I found raising pups is not all it's cracked up to be. You have to live in a 'dog house' for about 5 months. Whew! |

To me, it only encourages the millers to increase their prices. (Mind you, I'm not implying that these people are millers, so, don't anyone lop off my head!) On a serious note: People that think setting a high price insures a good home are mistaken. There are many people in this world that have 'money to burn' and don't value an animal just because they paid a high price. I have personally known a lady that has spent outrageous sums, only to 'give away' the dog later. I also know a lady that adopted a 'quality Yorkie' from rescue, the previous owners paid $1,500. for the puppy and turned it over. And then, there are those people that spend a small amount to buy their puppy, and spare no expense to take care of it. I think breeders just have to use their 'puppy sense' when placing a puppy. I do believe breeders are surely entitled to make some money on their puppies. After all, it's a round the clock job. They don't punch out and go home. Sheila |

Whew![/QUOTE] I have become a s**t specialist in one week with these three! :D But I'm soooo glad I got them! If their poop was gold nuggets, we could All go to Vegas or someplace for the Yorkie Talk Convention! Kim, I think you have a point about breeders not even making minimum wage, but $5000 sounds like California prices to me, and you are probably accustomed to that. Also, who would pay that for a pup with its fontanel open????? |
I'm just gonna rant and ramble on here. I'm really not trying to offend or be a jerk (although I will probably do both) I'm wondering if anyone else has these thoughts........... $8500 seems like a ridiculous price. Who would spend that kind of money for a tiny dog that can't be shown, could have possible extensive and expensive health problems AND has the potential to cause heartbreak to the buyer due to the poor health and possible premature death of the darling doggie? Would anyone here at YT? I, too, agree that someone representing themself as a reputable and knowledgable breeder would find it IMPORTANT to do that in a manner that wouldn't cause eyebrows to raise. (spelling, grammar, advertising, etc.) Does anyone else feel like this forum, made up of absolute Yorkie-adoring, animal-lovin', big-hearted, want to save every fur baby kind of people, is a possible TARGET for money-hungry and unethical breeders/brokers?? Has anyone done a search for specific names of sellers in phone books and not found them? Has anyone searched for an attorney's practice and not found that? Does anyone else want to speak-out when they see red flags but is hesitant because they don't want to offend or be thought of as a trouble maker or as someone trying to cause drama? *My grammar and spelling suck- especially under the influence of powerful cold medicine* Monique |

Monique...many people don't speak out and I do think it's due to the 'drama' angle - but I also believe that many of us who DO say something.... say it for the right reasons. My post was only meant as valid questions because when I see something like that thread that just rubs the wrong way - if no one spoke up - then people would all think that kind of pricing is normal - and it ISN'T. I agree - selling yorkies or any breed for outrageous prices does NOT guarantee a good home - it just guarantees the breeder/broker a huge increase in their bank account |
