Rude dog owners....aarrrrggghhhh!!!
 

Ok, so I just have to vent. The other day I was walking Nikko, and this lady with her cocker spaniel was walking by. My Nikko is very friendly and so he started pulling towards her dog. I am always very cautious and I started pulling him away. She tells me "its ok" and brings her dog right over to mine. They start doing the doggy sniff thing and all of a sudden her dog rears on his hind legs and comes down and slaps Nikko in the face with his paw. He was about 15-20 lbs and Nikko is only 9 lbs. My baby looked stunned and instantly cowered over to me. The lady then starts laughing and tells me "I knew he was going to do that." WTF???? You know your dog was going to hurt mine and you intentionally bring him over? What is wrong with people? Thankfully Nikko was ok but what if her dog would have attacked mine severely. Would she still find it funny? Am I being overly sensitive?

Aww that sucks! I think it was more of a dominant thing that the cocker did, it does suck that the owner thought it was so funny... I dont think you are overly sensitive at all. I would have been like WTF too!!

If I think Ellie is going to cause a problem, she gets picked up or we walk in the other direction.

I don't understand this lady's attitude but it seems to be happening a lot lately. Just down right mean people!

I really don't like other people to let their dogs run over to mine when they're on long leashes - they don't have control of them and don't realize that it doesn't take much for them to get hurt by the other dog, even if unintentionally -- unlike this situation.

But no - I don't think you're overly sensitive.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the indoor flea market and bought a zapper. I wanted one that would take down a 150 pd pitbull. The guy who sold it to us was waiting for me to say a 150 pd man... and was a little surprised when I said, no... I can do that with a baseball bat - I need this for when I walk my dogs. :D

I dont think people are aware just how fragile yorkies can be.
But that was realy rude that she laughed.. I wouldnt let little Nikko around that lady anymore. Is she your neighbor? cuz that would suckk

I have seen dogs do that to eachother when playing. Are you sure thats just not how the other dog plays and that the owner was just saying that she knows how he plays?

So funny and what a great idea!! Hmm, I wonder if those are legal in NYC? But instead of using it on the dogs, I can use it on the stupid owners!! :D

I can understand that. The dog was just being a dog. However, her dog was larger than mine and she should not have assumed that would be ok with me. My little 5 month old maltese puppy is still teething and I always warn people, especially children, if they want to come over to pet her. She means no harm by being nippy, she's only a baby but its my responsibility to warn people. My problem with this lady is that she didn't take into account that my dog was smaller than hers. What if Nikko was 3 lbs. as some Yorkies are? Her dog could have done serious damage.

I'm sorry your little guy got hit! I hope the lady didn't intentionally bring her dog over knowing it would intentionally hurt yours! However, I am a teacher and I see some horrible parenting decisions with kids so who is to say that doesn't spill to their pets too:confused:

Maybe that is just the way her spaniel says 'hi' and greets all new friends. Still a littlw warning would have been nice.

If your little guy isn't used to rough play, I bet it did shock him...
I bet Nikko was like WTF too!

If it had happened to me I would have slapped the lady.

Idiot....now how would she had felt if the tables were turned and it was a dog twice to three times the size of hers. "The more I'm around people, the more I love my animals."

What pi**s me off is when people think you are being rude because you won't let your yorkie come over to see their dog. People are idiots!

i feel that the woman was only tryin to be friendly, her dog tried to play , omg remind me not to approach a yorkie mum lol:lol tears

Oh no Bailie, it's not only yorkie moms. We do alot of camping and this summer we were camping by some people that had a breed of dog that looked somewhat pitbullish, but it wasn't. Well right off she walked her dog right up to my daughters dog, which is a mix of yellow lab and great perinease (sp), onto our site. My daughters dog is not really used to other dogs only mine. Nothing happened but the idea of it was a little stupid I thought. She didn't even know our dog even tho she was standing there waging her tail and smiling. That could have been a front on my DD dog part. And if they would have started growling I really don't think the other girl could have controled hers, even tho she had on of those spikey chokers on it. IMO, you just don't take a dog right up to another dog you don't know. There's just those few that just don't think. (Not to be offensive.)

i understand what u sayin, i was havin a laugh, with all the slap, punch that wud have been done to the cocker owner,, just some people shud say please dont come over with ur dogthen or wear a sign dont approach:lol tears:lol tears;)

My Rily thinks he is a great perinease, so when walking, I'm always afraid he will start something that "we" can't finish. :eek:

took Sadie for a long walk this past Saturday in the nice 70s weather...got called a rat again...i don't mind because i call her that as an endearing term...

anyways, i hate it when walking along and another dog comes by and it's out of control...it's one thing if the owners say "hey this pup is in training or i'm sorry" but some people just let their dogs go nuts on you or your dog and don't say a word or do anything to stop it....i at least apologize when Sadie barks or gets too excited around people and let them know that she's only 4 months old and still learning how to behave on walkies....and i turn her around fast and walk the other direction and make her learn not to lunge or bark...she does it once or twice and then she's good for the whole walk, so she's learning and she'll be perfect in no time flat

my little yorkie does that. she has no problem walking right up to a doberman and starting something... i find this very amusing that she's so tough stuff and only 2.5 lbs, but i also wouldn't let her bully a dog no matter how much bigger he/she is...i make her walk on and refocus her attention on the walking and not the big dog she wants to bark at.

Well, since you asked for opinions I'll go ahead and add mine.

To be completely honest I think you are overreacting a little bit. I'll explain. Yes it was completely rude of her to laugh and I would have been a little ticked off as well but in all reality, her dog was most likely just playing and your dog was probably absolutely fine. Dogs play extremely rough. Even now, even though I've owned dogs for years, I still am tempted to break up Franklin and Maggie playing because it can get really rough. I always forget that they don't have really any other way to play besides jumping at each other and biting each other. Secondly, a 5lb difference isn't really that big of a difference, especially since you said your Yorkie was larger. Franklin and Maggie are 9 and 11 lbs and I let them play with much larger dogs at the dog park without any problems. The owner probably didn't realize you were upset because she thought the dogs were just playing. Since they were probably just playing, she had no idea they would do that. It wasn't as if her dog bit yours and she knew it was aggressive and brought it over. Does that make sense?

I agree with some of the other posters... I would never touch another person because their dog accidentally hurt mine. :eek:

I truly hope that woman wasn't laughing because her dog got too rough and intimidated yours. That's not cool. I certainly wouldn't let her dog near mine again if that's how her dog plays and the owner's nonchalant attitude about it. :animal36
