tails docked? ive just been reading a post on here on how they have had their puppys tails docked and iam appauled that anyone would want to do such a thing to a puppy. i live in england and its banned except for working dogs such as police dogs and emergency rescue dogs and so it should be its cruel if i was to go to a breeder i would not accept a yorkie that had been docked  does everyone here dock their puppys tails??? |
It is very common in the states. I got both of mine from a rescue and didn't have a choice. Mine are both docked. I love the look of a yorkie with it's tail and wish that more breeders here would stop docking them too. Our country could learn a lot about how animals should be treated from your's! ((((Hugs)))) |
i just dont see the point of cutting the tails off and the fact that the puppys are still awake thats why i think its cruelty i love bellas tail and when ive been out and open the door to her she wags it so much its so cute better than a stump :( and i love watchin her chase her tail and i know she loves it s well. |

over here you would be very lucky to find a yorkie in a rescue centre in some dogs homes i have even been told have sold pedigree dogs personaly rather than sell them in the dogs home iykwim so choosing a dogs homes isnt a place you would go for a yorkie so i think the usa is lucky for that x |
The tails are still docked in the United States because that is the AKC standard for Yorkshire Terriers. If the standard is changed, then I'm sure many breeders would not dock the tails. In Europe, as in England, it is against the law to dock the tails. |

I enjoy the docked tails on Yorkies...It gives such a balanced appearence. Plus they're held high with that 'appearence of self importance' the standard calls for. |
I deal with a lot of grief about cosmetic alterations myself because my great danes have their ears done for AKC showing. While natural ears are acceptable, sadly, they are only just that. No one seems to win with them. I hope for a movement toward the natural. My yorkie, Athena, like most yorkies in the USA, is docked. I think I've only ever seen one yorkie with a natural tail and that was on a TV show about a yorkie living in England. |
there was a programme a couple of years ago on telly abouts crufts dogs (crufts is the biggest dog show over here in the uk in case people are not aware) and because people are breeding dogs a certain way the breed of the dog is changing which is ending up with health problems they shown one breed of dog that now sufferes from fits and another whos head wont fit the brain which leads to the brain becoming smothered and having to be put down and british bull dogs that cant even breath properly its so sad that dogs cant just be natural i think yorkies look so much better with tails. |
AKC requires the tail to be docked to be of standard. Therefore if you want to have your puppies to adhere to AKC standards you must have the tails docked. I would love if they changed the standard to have either docked or full or to change it to just full tails. |
I love Jackson's full tail and wish they wouldn't dock them. I just find it pointless. I think "nubs" are cute however! I just think it's a completely useless procedure done simply for human's vision of beauty! |
