People want something for nothing I have four adorable mixed puppies that need a home. I had much interest and people said that they had to have them until I said told them I was asking $150 for them. WOW they all dropped off the face of the earth. Not that I am trying to make any money but this litter was a total surprise and a gift at the same time. She was rescued form the animal shelter and we found out she was pregnant later. I spent alot of money on high quality food, vet visits, x rays shots and we have spent many hours socializing these babies..... Am I being unreasonable? These were doctors by the way, They can easily afford this...but everyone wants something for free. |
Animal Shelters around here charge more than that to adopt. You are NOT being unreasonable. :) |
Your not being unreasonable but alot of mixed breeds are free to a good home so thats what they are expecting |
I've seen mixed breeds go for much higher than what you're asking. I don't think that's unreasonable at all! Good luck with finding them good homes! |
I think that's very reasonable, are they small breed pups? |

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. We saw a lot of older mixed breed dogs at shelters for around that price. $150 for an adorable little puppy is a great price. Do you have photos? |
I think that's very reasonable. Since you went through all that! The ones that are free don't even have any of the things you did. |
I don't think you're wrong at all. If they can't afford the purchase price, how will they afford food and vet bills? |
If it were me, I'd be asking more than that!! If someone truly wants a puppy for "themselves" and not to get and sell, then they will pay the price that's ask. By the way, what state are you in? |
Thank you for taking in the momma and for taking care of her babies. I'm sorry you are having a tough time placing them, but hope eventually you find good homes for all of them. |
I think you're being very reasonable as well! Good luck finding good homes for them, I'm sure you will! |

Good Luck |
I feel you!!! You'll find often times people (doctors in your case) who have money, are often the ones who expect things to just be handed to them. I had a supervisor at work who wanted in on a retirement gift I organized for one of our guys (he wanted it to be from just our unit, not everyone at work) any way that caused the price for each people in our unit to go from a few bucks to 20. Do you know I paid my share and his and he still owes me this money. It's been three years, guess I can forget about that 20 bucks. LOL I agree with the others, little dogs are more costly and in order to find good homes (people who can afford their care) you have to charge for them. Just because they are mixed, doesn't make them free. You should get some thing back for all your hard work in their care. It's very hard to socialize a puppy and give them well rounded pups. I say charge more!!! |

If you're asking only $150, I think it's obvious who's being unreasonable and that is NOT you. Somebody who is truely looking for a dog will be willing to pay for it. $150 is a small return for all the time and money it costs to raise puppies. Good luck! :D PS we woulnd't mind pictures . . . :D :D :p |
4 Attachment(s) Here are the pictures of my babies. The dark black puppy that is looking down is the only boy. My mom is keeping one of the chocolate girls. They are all very sweet and love people. I was hoping that I could place them with people I know so I could be sure that they would be well cared for but as of now that does not seem like an option so I will be very picky about their forever home. I am going to have them sign a contract similar to a rescue type contract. |
Awww, they're adorable. Thanks for posting the pictures. I'm glad that you are making sure that they will go to great loving homes. Good for you! |
Aww, they are such adorable puppies! I hope that you can find them wonderful homes soon. :) |
Thanks !! I hope to find loving homes for all of them. I feel so responsible for their wellbeing. I watch them play without a care in the world and I pray they will have that security for the rest of their life. |
I don't know where you are trying to rehome them, like where you post an ad or anything.. But I know for example on craigslist.org pet section a lot of people look for the 'free' or cheaper rehoming fee prices to either breed for $$ or resell for $$ on other sites. So it's probably a good sign that you have someone/s who turn away at your $150 price. Because honestly? That is a cheap rehoming fee. The humane society here is about $200 to adopt as well as the county animal services shelter, and there are some really cheaper foster care type rescues but there is this other shelter that charges $300. So really you are doing good on the adoption fee you are asking. It's not so cheap that you could be potentially rehoming to a person who might not 'look' like they will be breeding or reselling or something bad (cuz they look for the cheaper adoptions), and it's not so expensive as most shelters too. |
Just market them to the dumb....instead of mixed breed...rare shi-poos, exotic small puppies for the price of $150...similar breeds sell for up to $1000...people will buy them---just screen out the crazy---I would love them in a good home. |
this might sound crazy, but maybe yiu didnt charge enough, you could change your approach, list them as designer dohs and ask 400.00 per pup. I bet they will go like hot cakes. Try an ad, Are they 8 weeks with 1st shots? Good luck and please keep us opsted.:D:animal36 |
that would would do it, a new designer breed... they never have to know only 3 very rare teacup chizoodles left, 2 black, 1 brindle 400 each |
