Running while pooping! Hi, my Yorkie's name is Carlee, she is 12 months old. She is a real sweetie, but, she has one unusual trait. When pooping in the yard, she runs during droppings, therefore, there is usually 3-4 clean up areas. She obviously does not enjoy the process. Is this normal or do I need to get it checked out. |
Hi, welcome to YT!!!! Maybe its getting caught in the hair? Sam doesnt run unless thats happening to him (getting close to groom time). He does walk and poop tho, so does Martin. |
Follow the path..... :animal-paNot sure if it's considered unusual or something to have checked out..LOL:animal-pa :animal-paMy Neko does this, too! It makes the clean up a real job. He doesn't run, but he will walk about. And if you try to coach him to one spot, it seems to break his concentration..LOL! Now he's back to smelling around to start over. So I just let him walk and do his thing at the same time..My son hates to clean the yard. He's bound to step in it..first. Some how there is just no "one area" or so "one spot" for the mess.:animal-pa |
Sounds like somethings hurting him, I wonder if adding a little fiber to the diet would help? What are you feeding? |
OMG...Turbo does the same thing! He'll squat, then take off running, leaving a trail of tootsie rolls (very firm)! I'm taking him in tomorrow to have his anal glands checked, hope nothing is wrong w/him down there. I tried & nothing comes out, but he gets very squirmy, like it hurts him. |
Bella walks in circles before, and during pooping, but she doesn't run , just walks on her tip toes. |
Colt walks while he poops too .. its annoying bc sometimes he will walk off the potty pad... it doesnt seem to be hurting him, because after hes done he kicks his back legs like hes so proud he number 2'd LoL |
If Sophie is outside to do her business and starts running, I know she has to poop!!! She stops, starts to poop, then walks on her tiptoes in a circle too!!!! |
Many dogs do the circling behavior before they poop, this is normal, however, running indicates something hurts when the dog is pooping and it trying to run away to escape the pain. I would add more fiber to the diet and see if that helps. Frozen (thawed) green beans are a good source of fiber, the canned variety contains too much sodium. Joey eats about 5-7 a day, and they are great for treats or mixed in with food. |

How funny:D |
We use a potty pen outside. It was about 7 x 9 ft but we just moved it to beside the house under a covered patio for the winter. Now it is a 30inchs by about 8 ft. It really works well and keeps clean up in one area. Also there is nothing then where the kids play. I never worry if they want to lay in the grass. If you can't do a pen maybe just leashing could work? Just stand still till the jobs done? Of course it is always safe to check if there is an underlying problem first. Some dogs just have funny habits though, so if that's the case maybe these ideas will help. Good luck. |

I have started using a potty pen also. Just a small x-pen to keep my Maddie confined so she will concentrate on what she is suppose to be doing out there! On weekends and evenings after she goes she gets the run of the yard, in the mornings when I need to get her in the house so I can get ready, or in the evenings when it is dark in the yard (perfect time for her to find frogs/toads to chase and she doesn't want to come in) she is penned so I can pick her up to bring her in. I am interested in knowing what is on the ground under the patio? Concrete or grass? I would like to be able to have a place for Maddie to go potty when it's pouring down outside. I have a large covered patio, but it's concrete. ??? |
Bobby runs when he does his bizness too. I think it hurts him. The Doctor has looked at his bottom and everything is ok. But he does need his anal glands expressed every few weeks. I think when they get full it hurts him. |

Nala doesn't stay still while she poops, but I wouldn't consider it running, I just think it's her puppy ADHD and she can't focus one on thing at a time. If your puppy is running it seems like it might be hurting him. Maybe just calling your vet could help you figure out what you should add/change to her diet or if you need to take her in. Good luck and happy clean up:D |
