Actually, the standard is 3 -7 lbs. ;) |
Here's a guy's view, little dog=little poop piles. Big dog=having to jet spray the tractor tires. I just love the little thing. She wouldn't scare away a burglar with that growl-on-helium sound, but that's ok. |
well gatsby had a growth spurt younger 4 5 months he gained a lot of weight very fast he was keeping on track with the growth scale to be 8 pounds but then at about 5 1/2 pounds he just stopped and stayed that way hes almost a year now |
I agree with an earlier poster who commented about unhealthy weight. If your baby's frame is tiny, you don't want her to carry excess weight on her joints. [/QUOTE] That's a good point! I should start focusing more on Sophie just being healthy (even if she's small), and worry less about her not getting bigger. Thanks! |

To the OP, I agree with the others, your Yorkie may have a late growth spurt, Joey also grew quite a bit after 6 months. I think I would skip the carrot, there isn't much nutrition in it, and puppies need all the nutrition they can get. Snacks are better after they eat their food rather than before. |
Roxy was 2 lbs 5 oz. when I got her at 6 months old. She is now 5 years old and currently weighs 5 lbs 5 oz. ~ ideally though, her perfect weight is 4 lbs. 9 oz. There is hope ;) |
Obviously there are several possibilities for her adult weight, and generally I'd say the Yorkie owners here with specific experience in raising Yorkies have more reliable input than your vet who sees many different breeds and mixes. I doubt that she is done gaining at this age, but she's still going to be small. My Yorkie continued to grow until about 16 months, and topped out at 7#. Royal Canin is probably a good choice for you, because some other owners are switching from it because their puppies are gaining too much weight. |

You are too funny. While there are those that are dying for a pup the size of your Sophie, you are upset cause she's a wee one. Your vet says she's healthy.....that's absolutely what every owner wants to hear. Crying in your vets office isn't embarassing.......With my first yorkie I went in screaming at him to fix her. And I mean screaming. |
Tears of love are ok...your baby is precious! |
my Oliver is 2.5 yrs now and 3.2 lbs...when the breeder said he would be between 3 and 3.5 lbs I seriously didn't believe her!!! My other yorkies have always been 4-6 lbs ... but he did put on a few ounces after he turned 1... pushed him over the 3lb mark. And he is perfectly healthy and very active! She sounds like a Petite Fleur to me! |
Having the vet say she is "healthy" is really the important thing...that is what we all want to hear our vets say. She sure is precious...Sophie is simply adorable. |

I like the Royal Canin Puppy kibble because it is very small and easy for these little ones to chew and digest. All of my dogs are on it and no one has a weight problem. I have a little girl that I'm hoping will get to at least 4.5 to 5 lbs. She is 3 lbs. 11 oz. now and not quite 6 months. I feed twice a day and in addition to the Royal Canin, I add Show Stopper to her food -- just a small amount, but it has additional calories and other nutrients.(You can get it at Petco). She also gets roasted or boiled chicken (white meat usually) in the middle of the day as a little snack. As a treat I also give a few Cheerios, blueberries, and small bits of carrot. Good luck with your little girl -- and you are so right, being healthy is the most important. |
