I guess I am lucky. Ginger will stay quietly on the bed until my DH wakes up and then she gets on his chest for her morning back scratch. The back scratch is a little ritual that they have. As soon as Ginger gets in the bed she gets on his chest and he has to scratch her back and then again when he gets up. I have a pee pad in our bathroom and if she has to go she goes there and then comes back to bed. Donna and Ginger |
When we put her in bed with us she just wants to play. She get's in our faces, not waking just one of us, but both! I was thinking of putting her in another room, but my husband thinks that is mean. Thanks for some of the ideas people are sharing, but I have tried all but one of the ideas and that would be to put her in another room. If this keeps up I will have to break down and try that. |

One thing I have learned in my short time with my lil GiGi, Yorkies are easily spoiled and very HARD HEADED!! :aimeeyork LOLOL She will continue to cry because she always gets her way :thumbdown and that's for you to get up and start your day. It's a learned behavior for her, whining non stop = mom or dad gets up for MEEEEE!!! :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa lol I agree, move the play pen into the living room:thumbup:... but do it at bedtime, and if you have to, close your bedroom door. We are also sleep deprived. Celia at 5 months needs to pee around 3 am then again at 6 am. It is getting cold outside, I'm hoping that she will soon sleep through the night. How old were your puppies before sleeping through the night? Pls. tell it will soon get better! |
Ear plugs We got our first yorkie a year ago today and she is JUST like yours. Because your girl is so young it seems reasonable that she will have to go to the bathroom by 5 a.m. I now have the dogs' kennels in the living room (I kicked them out of the bedroom). I sleep with EAR PLUGS and that is how I survive my crazy ADHD Dogs excitement. If things get desperate--you can take some gravol too! I am actually serious! |
i use sleepytime tonic from vitamin shoppe. it's a blend of herb that will relax the dog; i put it in my dogs dinner at night and she knocks out within 10 mins and stays sleeping the whole night; i dont use it anymore; because now she got used to sleeping through the night. |
I suggest making sure that she gets an hour of exercise twice a day. |
Thanks for the comments. She is a ball of fire, runs around all day long, she has no problems falling asleep. My question is to do with puppy bladders. How old was your puppy before it did not have to go pee? |

My two puppies age 5 1/2 months & 6 months were also in that habit of 5am. I did it for a while, from about 4 month of age until 5 1/2 months (the older one's age) and then I got tired! They sleep in crates next to the bed at night. I started to ignore them 15 minutes at a time. First week I started, I wouldn't take them out until 5:15 am. I used a squirt bottle of water and everytime they started to whine I sprayed them. The second week it was 5:30 am. They now sleep until 7 am when the alarm goes off and I don't have to squirt them anymore. So all in all it took about 6 weeks to recondition their wake up time. The breeder where they came from used to get up at 5am and they were just in that habit. If your baby has everything she needs in her pen and you're not expecting her to hold her pee more than she's able to at this age, I would definitely more her to another room for sleeping until you can break this cycle. A tired Mommy & Daddy aren't any good to anyone!:) |

We just came back from the Vet. Celia at 5 months old ...should any time stop the need to go to the washroom! The vet was very positive and understood exactly what we are trying to do. No, we did not want to train her on pads! The outdoor potty training might be difficult in the beginning, although after reading quite a bit on the subject and discussing this with the dog trainer, and the vet, we opted for this route. We do not play with her at the early hours of the morning, she goes straight (on leash) and does her little peedle. Comes back to her crate and falls asleep. Guess, we'll just have to stick to what we believe. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions! Rabies shot this afternoon, no problems so far, Thank God! |
