Humping at 11 weeks!!! Today I washed all of Reesie's bedding and so I had given him just a towel to put down in his crate while the rest of his stuff was drying. He was not crazy about just a towel. Well, tonight I got his little bed out of the dryer and put in on the floor next to his crate while I was getting ready to put it in. He was so excited to see it. He was hopping and chewing it all over, and then all of the sudden he started humping it!! I was so shocked! He is only 11 weeks! Is this normal?? |
Yes it sure is, these young pups don't realize that this is naughty! Humping is a sign of dominance, and they are trying to be dominant with something, but hormones guide this behavior. Lol, it cracked me up to see Joey do this and he had a favorite red teddy bear, called "Big Red" that he just loved. Joey was neutered around 7 months of age, and about 1 month after that the humping stopped. Some breeders say that their unneutered dogs do it too much and they take away the affectionate object. Most dogs stop this behavior once neutered. |
So I should just ignore it for now? |

I would probably ignore it, unless it becomes regular behavior! |
:lol tears |
The earliest I've ever seen this happen was a little male I bred in a litter. They were a little over 3 weeks old and I was cleaning out their crate and he was trying to hump his much larger brother!!!! I couldnt believe it, still find it hard years later. He grew up to be an amazing character, tried showing him but didnt get anywhere as he wasn't docked. Although I over heard the judge at his first show call him precoutious, he stood on his box, fixed his eyes on the judge and practically dared her to egnore him. I reconed if he'd been able too he'd have gone around the ring on his own. |
Izzy started humping her bed one night, and she was only 8 months! And Izzy's a girl!! Is that normal? She does it periodically... |
I think its more of a dominance thing in girls although one of mine used to do it out of frustration I think. Rosies been quite active recently but she's in season so I expected it. |
They say it's a dominance thing in boys or girls that's why you should never allow them to hump a human. It is regulated by the hormone, testosterone, and the adrenal gland makes testosterone in both males and females. The testicles make the bulk of testosterone in males. |
that is the earliest ive heard about that too! ignore it!!!!!! :p |

OMG! Normal? My smallest little guy likes to hump certain toys and I thought, "You've got to be kidding me!" He is just now 11 weeks and has been doing this for a while. I took out the particular toys, but if it's normal-I'm putting them back in! He's quite a bit smaller than his brothers, so the dominance theory makes perfect sense!;) |
well my puppy did this at 12 weeks old my daughter put some teddy bears on the ground and he started humping it.. i came on hers looking for answers as well and i was shock as well. my daughter had no idear what he was doing but she new it looked nasty.. i was told never too give them toys biger then there heads and too stop it asap.. i agree with a lot of yt that gave me this support..its not good behavior and it needs too be stop asap.. i wouldnt allow this behavior.. |

For the OP who is looking for a serious answer: Humping is “Bad Behavior” and should be addressed as such. Humping your leg or a stuffed animal is not sexual behavior. It is dominant behavior and definitely should not be allowed. If he or she, (yes females will do this too) is humping a toy or a blanket, simply tell them “No” and take it away. If he/she is humping you or another human, is displaying dominant behavior and showing disrespect. In that case you need to do some research on how to become the pack leader, because if allowed to continue they will begin to show other signs of dominance, if they haven’t already done so. |

As a breeder you know what the cost for nuetering a pup with cryptorchidism and at what age a pup's testes become seated. |

Breeding females will do this when one is in heat. |

I do not think animals display nasty or disgusting behavior, humans on the other hand . . . |

anyways, dogs aren't trying to cause a show, we humans just make it out to be like that in our minds. they're just doing what come natural to them |

Tell me that a dog eating poop is not disgusting, no matter how natural it is. |

I was responding to the comment that dogs do not do disgusting things. I beg to differ. They also catch and eat grasshoppers, and roll on dead animals and lick their behinds. all pretty disgusting behavior. |

Its really not a big deal, shocking at first and so long as it is not done to humans. Its a natural thing , its not dirty and it can be controlled.:D I don't see it as bad behavior , sorry. |
well my best friend had a boyfriend that use too let his dog hump and it was just so nasty when you visit and the dog has a collection of teddy bear's and he's humping all the animals right in youre face.. and after he's done he'll hump youre leg and if you dont let him he'll bite your ankles the whole house would laugh when lucky would hump his toys and i thought this is so sick |
