Probably because there is such a thing as a midget or dwarf. Dwarfism is a medical term. Teacup is a made up word to describe a yorkie even though there is no such designation. |
Ah yes. The 'ol yorkie teacup remark. It seems people are obsessed with yorkie size. And the size is never "just right". They either think your yorkie is a tiny teacup or an enormous dog - "Oh my, that dog is huge for a yorkie! Are you sure your dog is a yorkie??" or " Aw, I know someone who has a teacup." What gives? Other breeds don't have a size obsession attached to them. |
I've never had teacup comments...Twinkle is about 13lb now, but Wicket who is 8lb is generally considered 'tiny' by strangers....although of course they always have a friend/mum/sister/cousin-twice-removed who has a smaller one  The comments that get me is the 'that's not a real dog' type comments - especially used when my husband is walking them. He normally replies, 'men get huge dogs to compensate for smaller things - this is the reverse' ;):D xxx |
The worst is when someone said, "Oh, you have a Paris Hilton dog!" Excuse me???!! My dog is healthy and active, and only goes in Mommy's purse when we pop into a store for a quick errand. She does not spend the day as my accessory!! Just because Sophie is little does NOT mean I treat her like a toy. |
