just a thought if there is only one kind of human how come the ones that are really small are called midgets or dwarfs are they different kinds of humans or are we simply using these terms to say that they are slightly different because their size is unusually small....just a thought maybe we shouldnt chastise these people for using the word teacup to say thats one small yorkie:)......sorry just a thought.....:D try to take it easy on me:cool: |
I agree with you. I learn soooooo much from Yorkietalk. I'm so thankful I found this site! :) Its funny because the first time I got her right away a stranger asked me. "Is she a teacup?" . . . Now everytime I go out people still ask me. I should really start refering them to Yorkietalk. lol |
Hi, Just thought I drop in for awhile. As far as the size of Yorkie's.. they come in all sizes. Their yorkies :ghug::ghug: When I walk the girls, they think Punken is Breese Mom. I'm ask all the time if Breese is a toy. No, I just tell them she's a yorkie and they come in all sizes and colors. I'll try and post some pictures of them when I can. Probably next week sometime. Will be away this week-end for my Mother's 99th Birthday. Take care of all your little one because they take care of us. Bye for now, Punken Pie...:jacko: Breese BeBe...:littleang |

Luckily I do not get the "Teacup" with my two tubbies:D. I try to explain what the phrase means, the possible health issues and about PuppyMills, BYB's and petstores. True, not all smaller pups will have problems. However, when one sees ads like this "Mirco Teacup Baby Yorkshire Terriers, Direct from Breeder" makes you wonder how small the dog actually is ??? We as yorkie owners can only try to educate and not get into "heated" discussions. |
IMO there's no need to educate the stupid people, at least I just get worked up if they approach me with uneducated, dumb comments. So I just play along ,and say YEA! It's a teacup and it was $2000, then they roll their eyes and walk on by in disbelief :) |
I get asked this all the time!!! Miss Lula-Mae Famous is a little over 2 pounds now at 5 months. Not only do I get asked if she is "one of those teacup types" but people will say "she is just a puppy right? she is going to get bigger?" and shoot me a dirty look *sigh* I just want to go to the bank and get a cup of coffee, I wasnt really looking forward to a Q&A session on my dog. I dont get angry about people being uneducated about yorkies, I cant really blame them. I didnt know much about them until I got one myself. "teacup" is almost like a size comparison for a dog that has a vast range in sizes. Like said in a previous post its like "little people" or "midget" for people. Sometimes I almost feel as though they are trying to make small talk so they dont seem so creepy when they are rubbing their hands all over my dog. :P I just say she is my little runt. ;) What bothers me is the people that for some reason dont aprove of my small dog. Like she isnt a "real" dog becuase she is small. No matter what size she is, she is my best friend. maybe she cant catch a frisbee but I love her just the same. |
Hello, Thank you all the Birthday Greeting for my Mom. We've been busy today getting ready for our trip. The girls had their full brushing today and baths tomorrow. My Mom is going to be really surprised to see them. I won't be home for a couple of days but will be back to visit when I return home. All of you take care and hope you have a wonderful week-end. Kathleen... Mom to: Punken Pie:aimeeyork and Breese BeBe:littleang |
I agree...Until I actually sat down and started to educate myself with this type of dog did I learn that TEACUP does not exist. I have a 4mth old yorkie and weighs only 2.8lbs. She is very tiny but I don't ever say I have a teacup just a special baby:) The breeder we bought her from also told me the same thing..She's smaller than some of the others but NEVER called her a teacup. I haven't taken to places where there are alot of people yet. I'm tryin to slowly get her used to the car. |
