What a great question! I love reading all these stories and how everyone's dogs have impacted their lives!

Each story makes me love my furbabies a little more.

I have Fibromyalgia too, along with the 2 neck surgeries I;ve had so I can sympathize with your pain. I thought the fibromyalgia was bad enough but now have permanant nerve damage so the pain is even worse. I had the fibromyalgia under control until my surgeries.
Sure glad I have Harley to help distract me from some of the pain. I will pray for you that some of your pain will be releived. God Bless you.

My yorkies have completely changed my life as I now know it.

Roxie I got as I graduated high school she was from my fiance and it was such a great decision that we had both made and the start to our family! Then my hubby was involved in a fatal car accident and went through a whole lot of emotions and we added Ryder. He is such a lover and has the sweetest disposition that he just fit with us immediately and really made my hubby feel better to see Roxie and him playing and the love and affection that they have given us. Prince is our newest boy that we have only had 3 weeks but it is amazing the bond that you have with these little guys- Prince has helped to pull me out of a funk and keeps me going. I feel so lucky when I come home and have our kids waiting- they are each perfect in their own ways, and they all do so much! Having them in our lives has really opened up a whole new love!

I may seem like the dumbest dog owner on here, but that's because truth be told I (don't kill me) hated dogs.

I have a huge scar on my right hand from a big dog (not mine, neighbours) using my hand a chew toy when I was 5 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday. It put me in a hospital for a few weeks!!! There was barely anything left to my poor hand.

My family has always had dogs, and I always loved them as puppies and then hated them as they got bigger. I would yell at them, and be mean to them. i guess I was just scared of them and it was my way of being dominant as a child. I was young.

I was always a cat person, and refused to ever own a dog. I had my cat 19 years. I was attached to cats.

My husband and I live in a small apartment and we wanted to own a pet together, but he never wanted a cat and I refused to get a dog. Finally I saw all these cute tiny dogs walking around and said "aww! If we had one of those, i'd CONSIDER IT". He was on the internet that night researching small dogs that he may own, even though he never wanted a small dog. He didn't want me to change my mind about possibly getting a dog LOL

I basically said, "If we aren't getting a cat, it better be the same size as one!" I picked out a Yorkie, and it absolutely had to be a black and tan yorkie. I favoured the puppy colouring. He absolutely had to have a bigger size one "for health reasons" so we compromised.

You'd never know I wasn't a dog lover now! Mind you, I don't have a clue about dogs, but I'm learning. My husband is teaching me, and I love learning. It has actually brought us together and it's "first born". We don't have children yet, so it's nice to have that 1+1=3 :)

I don't why I never had a small dog before! They are so much fun!!

Derby makes me SO happy.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Derby.

You should've seen my family when they heard we were getting a puppy--
YOU? get a DOG? I thought you HATED dogs? Are you SERIOUS?
I said "but it's the SIZE OF CAT! it's kind of the same!!" It was hard convincing them.. really. LOL

Catie_and_Luna 10-02-2009 10:12 PM

Hahaha that is so cute. I do have a cat that I love also but not nearly as much as I love Luna

What a great thread!

Twinkle and Wicket never fail to make me smile - even when they've done something naughty, like chew something they shouldn't  The look of total innocence on their faces gets me every time!

I've been especially grateful for the clownish behaviour these past few weeks after losing our dog Kaddie (not a yorkie)....I honestly don't think I would have coped half as well without their yorkie kisses and cuddles :)

I'm sorry to hear about your health probs....I'm sending lots of positive thoughts and well wishes your way  xxx xxx

At 19 I became anorexic and went from a healthy 9.5 stone to just 6. We got our first yorkie Rambo for my mom but he bonded with me, probably knew I needed him, and he kept me going. Then at 21 I decided I wanted to try showing and brought my Myshkha. That forced me to go out and interact with more people and I finally grew in confidence. Looking back my dogs probably saved my life and they continue to give me a reason to keep going even on dark days. I have constant low-level pain in my neck from a car accident but most days they're all the pain relief I neednI tried living without them after I lost Chloe but a year of that and it was driving me crazy, thats never going to happen again, long live the Yorkie.:thumbup::thumbup:

a little over a year ago when i was 8 months pregnant with my 3rd daughter and suffering with depression and acute anxiety, i lost my first Yorkie fur baby through the deadly parvovirus all my fault i know, she missed her booster i still have constant daily feelings of guilt and if only ! i honestly thought i couldn't possibly get another Yorkie (let alone a female dog) again as this would be betraying her memory and that i would never be able to love it the way i did with my Julie:angelyork. seven months ago i thought I'd try a different breed and opted for a male jack russell called Timmy as my husband head has always been turned their way, however this was disastrous we re-homed Timmy after a good six weeks and i was deflated. then a few weeks ago every night i would dream about a Yorkie female puppy after a few days the dream changed where my Julie:angelyork was present looking at the puppy then i knew what i had to do, so i picked up daisy and i love her to pieces just as much as i did Julie:angelyork it just feels so right and she makes me feel warm and comforted and i know my Julie:angelyork approves.
p.s any pet of mine will never miss another booster ever again through hell or high water I'll do my best to protect something so lovely that loves me so unconditionally as i do them.

It's amazing to see how positively these little yorkies affect all of our lives.

There is nothing better than coming home from a horrible day of teaching and then tutoring to two little dogs that are so happy to see me their entire bodies are wiggling! They cover me with little puppy kisses and I forget about whatever was bothering me. Also, i have pretty intense migranes, and my 2 1/2 year old dog seems to sense them, because he will always lay down quietly beside me whether I'm on the couch or on the bed, or just walking in the door (he is usually quite the barker!)

Yay for Yorkie:D

Catie_and_Luna 10-03-2009 08:42 PM

lol! I know what you mean about that, and I've got my little Luna on my lap like always too!

I didn't know you suffered from bad migraines! Go Bandit for being a therapy dog ;)

Symph2001 10-04-2009 08:01 AM

Amelia I think is solely responsible for the fact that my mother has lived longer and healthier than the docs predicted. I also feel she's helped my father stave off his Alzheimers for longer than they thought possible.

She gets them both up and moving. They take her for walks and are concentrated on her. Now we have Lilly who they enjoy as well. They have a calming effect on the whole household.

I hope my Derby grows up to sense mine.

I get them so bad too! Hospital visits, mega meds, and now they are trying another preventative! (good luck, we'll see what happens this time) and I'm been getting headaches since I was 6 years old, and migraines since I was about 12/13...

I feel for you! I know how it is!!!

Chronic Pain.

BanditSocks2 10-04-2009 09:41 AM

The preventative I'm on is Topamax (or Topa-something) has helped reduce the intensity and frequency of them. That in addition to Imitrex and Frova...but sometimes nothing helps:(

I'm not sure when bandit was able to start sensing them, but my new puppy Nala sure doesn't!!
Good luck with yours!

I just started Topamax too! It's decreased my headaches so far, and we'll see about migraines. I've had a headache for 2 days now, but it's not as intense. The weather sucks here right now too. I take immitrex but I maxed out the dose about 15 years ago, and then they put on the nasal sprays about 5 years ago? but now that doesn't work anymore either. I take such high doses of advil and tylenol #1 (combo) that people think I take too much, but after suffering so long the doctors know that's just normal doseage for me. Now that I live in a bigger city I'd like to see a specialist and see if there's another migraine drug I can try? I dont know... I mean, what do you right? Last time I went to ER they gave me something that not only didn't work, I was practically ripping the stuff out of my arm it made it so much worse! then they gave me Morphine LOL what a life EH!

BanditSocks2 10-04-2009 09:49 AM

I have the Imitrex shot which stings so bad but it works better! I usually take the pills though. I hate the nasal spray because it always drips down my throat! The Frova is good for the long lasting but not too painful headaches. The toprimate took a few months to kick in but now I see the difference. Bandit is amazing with them though:) He just comes quietly by me (especially when they're bad) and cuddles with me and I go to sleep.

Whenever I am feeling depressed or in a funk, here come the furkids to cheer me up. I've never seen anything as adoring and adorable as a yorkie!
I especially love how they all pile up in bed with me and hubby every night, including the new babies. (It is such a wonderful feeling to be loved so much!!!!) The new babies have already learned how to climb the puppy stairs, and they love to sleep on my pillow! Sometimes I wake up to one of them chewing on my ear or chin! LOL! Did I mention that I LOVE puppy breath? There's just no greater love than a Yorkie! They are truly the best anti-depressant I've ever found!!!

rosey442 10-04-2009 01:10 PM

Reading all of these posts today has actually brought a smile to my face as I realize how lucky I am to have my furbaby. Between health problems: migraines, chronic pain from diabetic neuropathy (not even morphine takes away), arthritis, diabetic ulcers and of course diabetes. On top of which I've been battling depression and anxiety this past year (my sons had been removed from my home last year by CYS: they'll be coming back home again soon.), my father having passed away this past June, I have been very alone and miserable. The best thing I have done for myself was to have gotten Molly. Without her, I don't know what I would have done. She has truly been a ray of sunshine for me. Whenever I go out and come back home, she is so happy to see me that she's practically falling all over herself. She makes me laugh at some of the funny and cute things that she does. I am so grateful for having her and for having found this website.

Catie_and_Luna 10-04-2009 01:15 PM

Wow everyones stories are SO beautiful. Goodluck to everyone with your chronic pain, I'm hoping to get relief from mine someday as well, but its good we all have our furbabies. Luna really has changed everything. Its miserable being 17 with no friends, no school, no life at all and she just makes me feel like something needs me.
