mean strangers! 1 Attachment(s) So my Burton is almost 9 months and I have found that random people can be so rude! I have had strangers stop me and tell me that they love my Morkie or mutt, well Burt is a beautiful pure breed! The people have said it's weird that he has white hair on his head. One lady told me that I was ripped off! (everyone in my family goes to this breeder and she is great!) Also people tell me he isn't a dog or even worse call him a rat. So mean! I get so mad and usually start and argument lol. Of course people love to stop me and tell me he's cute too. Do you get mean comments too? |
I have on occasion gotten, or overheard, rude comments. I've found that 9 times out of 10 that they shut up real fast if I stop and look right at the person with confusion showing on my face and ask calmly, "Why would you say that about another persons dog? Why do you think it's ok to be so rude to someone?" They usually don't have a response to someone calling them on their bad manners. If they persist I have been known to ask, "Do you kiss your wife/mother/children with that filthy mouth?" Fortunately, it's not often and I certainly don't let them upset me, because you really do have to feel sorry for people who are really just one rock away from living in a cave. |

I just get so angry. MY DOG IS NOT A RAT! and so what he has white hair on his head! ugh makes me so angry I love him so much that I feel I need to stand up for him lol. |
oh for crying out loud- how cute is HE??? being a yorkie owner- you develop thick skin- but the comments sometimes do hurt. I think people are just jealous- our babies are SO cute- who wouldn't want one of them. |
Some people just don't think before the words leave their mouth, and when they do, well, either its too late or they are too embarrassed to applologize and hope it goes away! Also, folks may not be familiar with how a Yorky puppy or adult looks if it is not in a fully mature grown out coat. I would say most people are just not educated in standard Yorky lore. They could be well meaning too, just don't know what they are talking about,(lady who told you that you were ripped off ;) ) My dog had white hair on her head too when she was young and her hair turned to a nice blond,(she is two years old now). When my pup was 5 or 6 months old, one of my neighbors whom I hardly see and lives way around the corner, drove by while I was walking my baby and stopped and asked how I got a squirrel to walk on a leash ! She wasn't trying to be cruel I don't think, but if I had been in a different mood, it would have made me mad. My baby dosn't even look vaguely squirrley! In puppy class there was a gal who had a tiny yorky that looked kinda like it was 1/2 Chihuahua ,hair shaved close too. Her dog was afraid of everything and it was always cowering. One day she looked at mine and made a comment on how tiny her dog was and how big mine was and she was kinda like it was too bad mine was so big! My dog is a normal Yorky in everyway! I bit my tongue and smiled! Sometimes it is just best to smile, bite your tongue and laugh ;) You know what your baby is even if every one else does not :) |
I think... he is beautiful, or handsome, my son says boys are not supposed to be pretty but handsome. Don't let other people get you down, you love him and and he loves you!!! Some people just can not keep their foot out of their mouths. Keep your chin up!!! |
He is adorable!!! |
What!!?? A yorkie's hair is supposed to change color and the head is usually the first place!! Anyway, I don't think you were ripped off. He's adorable!! |
Oh he is so adorable!! I have had people say stuff to me too. It is really hard not to let the comments bother you. I am getting a lot better though. It's just hard, cause you are right, you want to take up for them! |
This is how I look at it.. ' There will always be: Someone prettier Someone richer Someone thinner Someone younger Someone funnier etc. etc. etc. and the list could go on and on...:p Once I figure out that it is only important how I feel and who I love and who I think is beautiful then I can just laugh at idiots. I once had someone say I had a ugly Yorkie here on YT and it didn't bother me at all. She was right if you were only looking at the outside but inside my little girl was a survivor of abuse and cruel torture...SHE WAS AND IS BEAUTIFUL TO ME...:) I have laughed at times and call them little rats myself because I grew up with big dogs and these little dudes and dudettes are so different from the big ones. My family just cracks up at my little flea's running in all different directions..compared to their big dogs. Heck I show up with steps to get up on the couch (big dogs usually don't do this) I have car seats for them in the car (big dogs can't do this) they have coats for the winter (most big dogs don't do this)..I have purses to carry them in (big dogs can't do this) and all six of my dogs sleep with me..you can only get one or two big dogs to do this. :p These little ones are just so different and we are all so lucky to have them..so just enjoy them. So the next time someone makes a crack..just smile :D at them and say what do I really care what you think I love my little one and that is ALL THAT MATTERS. |
Geez, some people, but I don't understand how anyone could say anything bad about your little guy! He looks like a very cute yorkie to me:D Sounds like some people are just jealous, not worth worrying about what they think:) |
people are just jealous of him.:) he's adorable :aimeeyork |
Burton is absolutely adorable! I love the look on his face like he's smiling. And i love how his head color is! Anyway, he is still changing colors, and compared to his darker fur, his head looks while in comparison, but in time it will turn blonde, don't worry. I've had a real jerk step on Uni, not say sorry, call her a rat, then when he left, called ME a b*tch. Go figure. |
Burton is very cute! What a little sweetie! Just what is this rat thing? I have had people call my dog a rat too, and she hardly has a tail. Don't rats have long ugly tails? Aren't they grey? I can't even imagine thinking a Yorkie and a rat look alike. I think some people just need to be rude and don't know what else to say. Little Burton is definitely a beauty. |
Who cares what those losers say , Burton looks great what a cutie. Reminds me of my Griffin! |
He is adorable! Just ignore people like that. What do they know? |
FIrst of all I think hes super cute! :) That being said I have heard things too, look at the rat seems most popular. I had someone a few weeks as me if it was embarassing when Fred barked like he was a great big dog.. I just his heart was bigger than any other dog I know.. |
Burt is super cute, I like his look a lot (so does Sophie Kate). I used to get upset with the comments but then I realized I get just as many nice comments about how cute or well behaved my dog is in public. Don't let the people who call them rats or whatever upset you, in most cases they are jealous of your super cute puppy or in the case of a small child just doesn't know better. You know what I find funny, how many people say to me "I used to have a Yorkie" or "My Mom had a Yorkie" or insert, sister, girlfriend or whomever. I have to wonder to myself what happened to all those Yorkies? |
Oh sorry I got his name wrong, its Burton not Burt. Still super cute either way. |
I wonder if the rat comment is more a reference to size than appearance? I use people's comments as an indication of their intelligence and education level, knowledge of dogs, and personnal taste. What people say about other people's dogs tells me more about them than they would like me to know, I'm sure. You could always use those awkward moments to educate the offenders. "Oh he looks like a rat!" "Well, actually this breed was developed in England in the 1800's to kill rats and to help farmers rid their fields of vermin and to protect their crops. The Yorkshire Terrier was introduced in the United States in 1872 and the first Yorkshire Terrier was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1878, making it one of the first twenty-five breeds to be approved for registration by the AKC." So learn some history, and take the opportunity to educate people when the situation arises. Wikpedia excerpts: Smoky (c. 1943 – 21 February1957), a Yorkshire Terrier, was a famous war dog who served in World War II. She weighed only four pounds and stood seven inches tall. Smoky is credited with beginning a renewal of interest in the once obscure Yorkshire Terrier breed. According to an Animal Planet investigation, Smoky was the first therapy dog of record. Pasha, Tricia Nixon Cox's pet Yorkie, lived in the White House during the Richard Nixon presidency. So don't be hurt by their ignorance, many people just have no idea what a great breed the Yorkshire Terrier really is. |
He is absolutely gorgeous, who cares what anyone else thinks you love him and that's all that matters ! And don't worry it looks more ash blond than white to me xxx :aimeeyork |
Burton is adorable!!! There are some dogs you see out that do look like a yorkie mix/morkie etc but not Burton I would never see that in him from the picture. I think most people just think they are soooo funny when they say they look like a rat or get a "real dog" etc. Just remember one thing: You Cant Fix Stupid!!! So no sense even trying! |
I haven't read all of the posts so maybe this was suggested..... A swift knee to the grion followed by..."Wow, you're kinda weak aren't you?" usually works. No need to dwell they'lll get the point. But really...some people do NOT engage their brain before they open their mouths. And those people are probably not animal lovers. |
Perhaps to a 9 year old boy being compared to a rat is a compliment. Rats are not all bad you know. They are as smart as dogs, loyal, friendly, etc. (I still do not want one though). My family teased me by calling Luna a skunk (she is a parti). It was all in jest :) |
Isn't it amazing how people think they know everything? When Bud was a puppy all I ever heard was, is that a silky? No he's a Yorkie. Really? Are you sure? I don't think so! So on and so on until one day someone walking by said to me, Is that a real Yorkie? My answer was He's breathing so I guess so! I just kept on walking. Wasn't nice of me but I had it by that time:p Your baby is so stinkin cute. |
Mean Strangers One Yorkie walks up to another: "Have you taken a good look at your human lately? He looks like a Rhino." " If I had to obey that human, I'd hang myself on my collar" " How can you stand it? She smells like roses! How gross is that?" " What salon did your human's hair? He looks just like a rat". Have a wonderful weekend and remember a dog knows when to keep his mouth shut. ;) |
I heard my one neighbor say to my other neighbor "Looks like they have another rat over there" right after I got my second Yorkie, Matty Lu. He didn't think I heard him but I have very good hearing. I turned around and said to him, "You must be very insecure with yourself to pick on a little dog" and he shut up. Wait until my puppies go outside and he sees that I have FOUR Yorkies now -- he's gonna love that. |
Your baby is adorable. :) I once had a person tell me that my 2lb Suri was huge! She went as far as bringing her dog in and it turned out her doggie was 3X bigger than Suri. He was a cutie, I can't say as much for his owner!! I think the rat comments and little furry animal comments are refering to their size. To some people it is more of an endearing comment. Like when I use to take Suri to the softball field the security guard would always ask me where the batteries went. (I always thought that one was funny) But the ones that tick me off are the, "My dog could kill your dog in a second", or "Look my dog was to bit your dog." I'm like are you serious! That crap makes me so very made. There is a guy at the softball field that kept saying that over and over, and finally I turned and told him..."I would like to see you or your dog try to hurt my dog, because that will be the last thing either of your do!!" I know, I know it wasn't very nice and I wouldn't hurt anyone but it made me so upset!! He never talked about me or my dog again. |
i dont think i ever got bad remarks from people. i always get possitive ones. they must know better,, i guess i walk lexi with an attitude , dont mess with the mamma. god help anyone who ever ever says anything negative about my lexi.. i would reem them a new a$$. and thats the truth. i dont play around, especially when it comes to my family and my lexi. |
