Do Yorkies really smile? lol I adopted a rescue yorkie in September to keep my other guy company. She is much larger than Oscar (will be 2 years old soon!!) and she just turned one year. In any case, she has this habit of showing her teeth. A friend of mine said "she's smiling". I don't believe dogs smile. I think it is a defense response and nothing more. Any opinions?? |
Yorkies definitely smile. Missy smiles all the time! There have been threads posted about this before. You may want to do a search so that you can check out the pics of all our smiling babies :) |
Yes, Peek a Boo smiles and Tinkerbell smiles too! Happy doggies! |
Raindrop loves to play Peek-a-boo and she always smiles when we play. Other times when I get her excited, she will too. It's a real smile. :D |
My Chiara used to smile a lot. She would show her front teeth too. it was adorable.:aimeeyork |
I have seen many pictures of yorkies that have a smile on their cute faces. Including my own :D |
Thanks everyone. Had no idea that dogs smile. She happens to smile when she's excited...like when she sees me when i come home from work....i thought she could have had dental problems. Oscar, the resident dog, doesn't smile, but he is the most loving little doggie ever! so affectionate. the girl doesn't like to be coddled! |
I had a Silky who used to smile all the time. He was a happy little guy! :D |
Rockie smiles all the time. l hate when people thinks he is showing aggression when he does that:rolleyes: l love it when he smiles and wiggles his little tail showing he is very friendly and loveable. |

Yorkies really do smile! Our Yorkie, Cindarella, smiles at the drop of the hat...When she's happy, when we come home everyday, when she meets anyone, on and on. We have smiling conversations all the time with each other and it seems that sometimes she's trying to say something but can't. She has even learned that smiling gets her more attention and sometimes a treat! The happier she is the bigger the smile! :) The little heart thief! |
I think Yogi smiled today. I was getting ready to take him for his morning walk and he waiting for me to put my shoes on. I looked at him and said to myself "Is he smiling?". I do believe he was...:) |
Oh my Lhasa, and Yorkie both smile. Baxter (the yorkie) does it all the time, expecially if you ask him if he wants one of his special treats. He will come running with a smile on his face. Go to my album there is a picture of him doing it. |
Most definately Two of mine smile. I love it when they do, but my nephew thinks that Maisy is snarling at him because when she smiles then she kinda crinkles her nose and then blows out her nose. It almost is like a really quiet sneeze. But she and Missy definatley smile. They will even do it on demand. I love it!! |
Yorkie smiles - When do they start? I have a rescue puppy. She's 16 weeks. Her mama smiled. I wonder if any of you remember when your yorkie started?? I'm just curious. Sandy Lemire says the yorkie smile is in some lines. Any opinions on that?? Judith & Brooke Lynn |
I def think they smile!! Seems like every pic of my yorkie I have taken comes back with a smile!! I love it! |
Not mine My Yorkies don't smile, but I used to have 2 Bichons who smiled a ton. I think it just runs in certain lines. I wish mine did as it is so cute!!:(:( |
1 Attachment(s) Oliver is definitely smiling here! He had just gotten groomed! :D |
Ally smiles when someone comes to visit or she meets them on a walk. She just turned 2 years and hasn't been doing it very long. Tia (1 yr) doesn't do it yet. My neighbor's yorkie has always done it. |
2 Attachment(s) I've caught a couple pics of my babies smiling!:D |

I got my previous yorkie from the pound. She was a doll. Lost her 10 years ago. My puppy was a rescue; her mama was in the pound and rescue got her out then she had the litter. I was lucky enough to get one of her pups. |
Cute videos. :) My Miss Kitty smiles all the time when we talk to her. |
All of my dogs have been "smilers." I think all dogs do it, but most people don't recognize what they are doing and don't even notice it. With mine, when they would do it at first, it was very subtle. Because I would fuss over them, calling them "smiley" when they did it, it would become gradually more and more pronounced as the years went on. Loosie, my late Yorkie, was a fantastic smiler. Her mouth would open wide, and as she shut it, she would lower her head and turn it to the side, pulling back her lips and flashing her teeth. She would sit in dh's lap, doing this over and over, because it would make him start laughing and get her all kinds of attention. Animal behaviorists actually have a name for it: submissive grinning. Flashing the teeth, a little or a lot, while the rest of the body displays a submissive stance is their way of showing that they aren't a threat. If you think about it, isn't that what we are actually doing when we smile at another human? |
3 Attachment(s) They do smile!:D The first is Cooper's infamous smile photo. We were on our way to the park and I turned to him to ask him if he was happy. To my shock, this was his response! And, I actually just caught this second photo of Cooper last night. He had just taken a toy away from Max. This is his wicked evil grin. The last photo is Max's first time in the car. I'm pretty sure he's smiling. Attachment 338663Attachment 338664Attachment 338665 |
