im new too dogs but do yorkies follow you everywhere??
 

whenever i get up or someone in the house gets up the puppy follows us and its very easy too step on him, dose this happen with all puppies?
or just with yorkies,,, and dose this always happen when they grown up
they follow you every where or dose it change as they grow?

It's pretty much the breed! Yorkies are very attached!! Plus the puppy is a puppy lol so thats why he will follow you around more..

Peanut is really attached to me, but he also has his "independent" side When we are at home he will follow me and then he will have to be near me, or in sight of me... :D The more you are with your puppy the more he will be attached to you. :p

Yes they get right under your feet..You just have to have your gaurd up and be alert to them being right under your feet!!

yeah! my Pixie follows me all the time and if she can't physically follow me then her eyes are!:rolleyes: I'd like to think its because she loves me sooooo much...but i think she's just nosey!:rolleyes:

Tia is my shadow and I love it! Well except when I need to pee lol

Sugar follows me everywhere! She has recently found a spot in the house (my bedroom doorway) that she can lay and see all of the exits :D she only follows me 6 out of ten times if she's in that spot :)

Fancy is my constant shadow, she is laying on my lap as I type this. If I were to get up right now she would follow - if I go outside and make her stay inside she will wait at the front door until I walk back through. If I go take a shower she stays in the bathroom the whole time too.

Yorkies are companion dogs and they take their job very seriously...they are attached to your legs...:D You will just have to learn the Yorkie shuffle (never pick up your feet - just shuffle along) like the rest of us...and never, never make an instant stop or they will pile up behind you..:D:p:D

I have only one yorkie
 

He is everywhere that I am. He even knows my scheduals for everything. Time that I get up, he,s right there reminding me that it's time. If it's for our going outside time, he's there to tell me .....bark bark....Time for getting dinner started...you guessed it .....bark bark. I am the only one that can let him out. He is my companion most loyal. My Dh says he comes last in this family when it comes to who rates around our house. He's kidding of course.:D

This is how both my yorkies were/are. Follow you around all the time. They love to be with their people.

:congrats: on your new baby! Yes Cooper follows us 24/7 UNLESS he is just too lazy/sleepy to care LOL. One thing that worked really really well for us, as my DH is a big guy and he was terrified he would step on him....we all learned to shuffle/scoot our feet instead of stepping. Also we put a jingle bell on his harness loop so that we could always here him...that way if one of the kids were scooting away from the table in the chairs we would call him first to here the jingle so we always new if he was close by or not BEFORE we moved.

We are getting a new baby in a few weeks and I have already bought some of the small jingle bells to put on her stuff the minute she gets home....made it so much easier to hear them since they are so tiny you cant always see them when they are just puppies.

:) HA get use to it, Mine follow me everywhere, even the rest room :D all day and all night they are by my side :) Thats the way I like it :p

Oh man! when Pasquale was a little baby...he use to be RIGHT under my feet....now that he's 1...he's backed off a couple of inches LoL I always know if i stop...and look to one side and he's not there...always check the other side...cause he's sure to be there!!!! :D

i've come up with a little advice for yorkie owners from my experience so far....

"If you can't find your Yorkie....Look behind you"

My mom affectionally asks me of Diva, "when are you going to cut the cord." LOL Diva follows me EVERY step I make. If she's sleeping next to me on the couch and I get up to go to the kitchen, she follows. She follows me to the bathroom, to the kitchen, to the laundry room, etc.

Now her puppies follow me, so I guess the cycle continues.

Yorkies seem to have velcro for fur, LOL.

Just look at it this way, you'll never feel lonely.

I keep bells on my baby :) I've only stepped on his foot once so, so far so good...

Both of mine stay within arm's reach of me pretty much all day long (one puppy, one adult). They do take their zoomie trips through the house at warp speed, but then when they are done making their laps, they settle back down beside me. I was not feeling well the other day and decided I did not want them in the chair with me. I just needed some space. You would have thought I had punished them. Their sad little faces made me feel so guilty, I called them both back to me. Glad I bought the "chair & 1/2" and a chaise so there is plenty of room for us all, wherever I sit. Some might think it a little crazy to actually pick your furniture because of the pets, but, that is what we did. I have one warming my feet right now as I type and the other is in a bed beside the computer desk. If I get up and go to the bathroom, they will follow me there and wait outside. They will come right on in if I am not quick with the door. If I go get the mail without them, they line up at the window and watch my every step, rushing to the door as soon as they see me hit the porch. It is a bit overwhelming as well as endearing -- all at the same time. Have to admit, they do make you feel pretty special. :)

Yes, they are glued to you! I have five and I have learned not to stop quickly as we have had a few major "pile ups"! My five little shadows, if anyone is looking for me at home just follow the trail of yorkies, I'll be in the front!:D

Bells are the answer. You can get them in pet stores. They each have two, so there's a good solid jingle/jingle when they trot down the hallway with me.

And yes: they always follow. It's funny - like when I'm cleaning and making multiple trips back and forth, sometimes they look at me almost disgusted, like MOM! can't you settle down???? When they follow me to the bathroom, they peek around the corner, then run up the stairs to the bed to wait - it's more comfortable there ;)

I had to laugh pretty good at the mental image of you stopping short, and five little yorkies all piling into each other and then into you! That would make a really cute cartoon if someone is creative!

There are a couple of Yorkies here named Shadow and I always smile at how appropriate a name that is for these little ones! :D

I meant their doggy stairs at the foot of the bed ... if I had REAL stairs, they'd be running their little legs off (come to think of it, mine too!). "Their" stairs are 5-steppers; they can run up/down them so fast, you hardly see their little legs moving. So, they ensure that I'm safe and going to be there for awhile (I know, TMI :eek:), then they run up their stairs to the bed and sprawl out until they hear the toilet flush. Then they perk up, run to the bottom of the bed and wait to see what I do next before they run down the stairs to follow me.

There are times I would swear they're perpetual motion engines ... and then they collapse and snooze like rocks :D

We have always done the Yorkie Shuffle at our house. Everyone that comes into the house is taught how to do it.

Daisy likes to follow everyone into the bathroom (even company) but stopped following me in there because she is afraid I might gve her a bath or get out the bow box!!!

kona follows me everywhere! she is definitely my shadow :)

to keep track of her i buy cat collars because they have bells attached.

the bells are so helpful because you always know where she's at when you hear the "jingle jingle" behind you...also we have a two story house and she sometimes goes exploring in rooms she's not allowed in alone, so it helps to locate her when calling for her ;)

one more thing i like about the cat collars is they have the quick release ones...i always worry about kona's neck...its nice to know if she got caught on something she could get out of her collar :)

LOL...I must laugh. I have a cattle dog along with my yorkie. Catte dogs are known as velcro dogs, but I think Bella might have them beat. My husband says all you see with Bella is her tail when she's behind me.

Too cute! This is one of those things that people who don't do their research occasionally have a problem with. Yorkies are incredibly codependent - as has been said again and again, even if you wake in the middle of the night to pee, you will often have your baby at your feet - if not in your lap... That's where my Tucker likes to be. I have known different breeds who are content to remain asleep in one room while their mom or dad goes to another, but that is not the Yorkie way! They will be with you any and all the time that they possibly can. Once I come home from being out, if I walk back out to the car, Tucker barks his little head off -mad that I went outside and he couldn't go - it's like a surgically implanted hairball - but the most lovable one in the world - and now I have two!!!! They are very special little people and need so much from us - if they can't be by our sides, their little hearts seem to break - how much more unconditional can love get!? Yorkielove, Dana
