Help! 6 Pounds @ 3 Motnhs! Help! my female yorkie is 6 pounds at only 3 months old! IS this normal? Did she just have a monstrous growth spurt? 3 weeks ago she was 4.2 pounds. Although she is registered with the DRA, i am worried about a purebred issue. My breeder claims the sire was 5 pounds and the dam was 7. I went to the vet to see if they had the birthday wrong and she said by judging the teeth coming in, she is right about 3 months. any suggestions???? |
That sounds about right if she weighed 4.2 lbs at 2 months. I believe that she will be much bigger than the parents. Unless you had a scale with you to weigh the parents, the breeder can tell you anything. You'd be surprised at how small an adult dog can be until you put them on a scale. Is she healthy? |

Welcome to YT! I have no clue what could be the issue. Most likely the breeder lied to you? How many times do you feed your baby? I would try to feed it only 2-3 x's daily while it's a puppy...try not to free feed for a little while and maybe walk him and give him some exercise. ? |
sometimes the pups grow bigger than the parents. Chachi is 7 1/2 lbs and his parents were 6lbs and under. |

Yep, she is perfectly healthy! She has quite a "puppy belly" but the vet said this is normal, i was fearing she had worms or something, but she doesn't. Would it be in my best interest to get a DNA test?? how much is that?? I know the "breed standard" is set below 7 pounds..can't show a chunky one! I have heard of this formula, it is online and also in "yorkshire terriers for dummies" book: "To calculate a purebred yorkie's final weight, double their weight at 3 months." This means she will be 12 pounds?!?!?! Something seems very wrong with that |
12 pounds isnt that big my yorkie is 18 pounds and he was only 2 pounds at 2 months |

yeah, it's some "generic" registery that the breeder chose. That is why i am most concerned because the breeder seems shady!! www.dogpapers.com i just applied for registration online and they havent emailed me a notification yet! I hope my $45 on my credit card didn't just go out the window! or worse, $450000!!! i hope this site is real, and the breeder didn't just make it up. I have the sire and dam numbers...it seems real... |
my baby girl is nearly 8months and weighs 9lb both her parents were smaller, i dont see how it matters what size they get they should be your baby small medium or large, unless you want to breed yourself why do you want a DNA if it turned out there was another breed as well would you get rid of her? now that worrys me wendy and rosie :rose: :yorkiesar |
My father's Yorkie weighs 14 lbs. & has weighed a lot since she was pretty young. Not sure what her parents were like, but I've definitely heard of larger Yorks before. JM |
oh no! My baby is my baby! i don't care if her hair grows out curly and ugly like the yorkie poos i pick on!! i would never give her away or attempt to bring her back! My only beef is that i spent literally thousands on a dog that ended up not what i was going for in the first place. If the breeder tried to pull a fast one on me, that is not fair and i would like 50% of my money back. Not ALL of it, she is definately worth something (millions, if you ask me). But come on...that just wouldn't be fair. it makes me feel more at ease that you guys have heavier yorkies, because i had never HEARD of a yorkie over 7 pounds until now! |
