Anyone here owns a cat? I am thinking about getting a kitten but I am afraid that my baby is going to get upset if I bring one. Do any of you own a cat and a yorkie? |
I own 3 cats and the cats and dogs (4) all get along. They all play together fine. With kittens though you need to watch thier play time together because kittens dont have a whole lot of control over the claws and you dont want a puppy with a scratch to the face/eyes. |
I have 4 cats and Zoe does fine with them and vice versa. |
I had my cat long before I got my puppy. I think he was 10 when we got Isla. So it was more a puppy trying to play with a cranky 'ol cat. The cat is indifferent to the dog and long as she leaves him alone. If anything Isla will chase him and try to play with him but Baxter wants nothing to do with it! :D I think it would be different if a kitten were coming in after the dog was already there. They could end up good buddies! But the previous poster is right about the claws! I know alot of people don't agree, but you could always have the cat's front claws removed if you were worried about that. |
2 Attachment(s) I have one cat, Pepper, and my yorkie, Ginger. They are the best of friends and get along GREAT! I wouldn't hesitate at all! |
I had a cat before I got my yorkie. Then we got another kitten after we had my yorkie for about a year. They all get along great. The kitten and yorkie play together more then the older cat. The cutest thing was when we would put Taz in his crate we had to put the kitten in there also. Otherwise she would meow until we let her in there. They like to sleelp together. Theresa |

I have 5 cats inside, a yorkie and golden ret. I have never had a problem. My first yorkie came here when he was about 6 and I never had a problem from the beginning with him, and now we have Jake who came here at about 8 months and I have no problems. He doesn't chase them, and 2 of them let him walk up and he licks them or smells there butts! lol My one cat Ozzy was really close with my first yorkie they always slept beside each other and such, and now Ozzy does the same with Jake it is funny. This is the same cat that if Jake does something wrong Ozzy will swat him in the head and discipline him!!! Oh yea, my older cat rules the house over 2 dogs and 4 other cats. |
Be careful. We got a kitten and Emmett has been trying to kill it since day 1. I have been training him every day but he doesnt seem to be any better about it. Also, Emmett is not an aggressive dog... only with the cat it seems. |
We have 2 cats and they get along great with all my pups! :D |
I have 2 cats, 2 yorkies, and 2 other dogs. Neither one of the cats cares for the dogs at all. Custard (my fatty catty) just lays around all day out of their way. Snickers will cuddle up to my yorkie girl at night just so she can get some attention as well. Custard and Snickers stay away from the other two dogs as they will chase them around the house. I suggest that if you do get a kitten, declawed or not (what ever your choice being), that you supervise them closely until the cat is a little older and bigger. Your yorkie might try to take advantage with being bigger, but they should get along fine. Good luck to you and a possible new addition to the house. |
4 Attachment(s) We have two cats and Couver. We had the cats for about 6 months before we got Couver, but they were still kittens when we brought Couver home, so they do well. I think that if you introduce them when they are young, it is highly likely that they will love eachother :D |

Is it true that some are in pain the rest of their lives? I was only a teenager and lived in a dorm at college when I got my cat and had no second thoughts about declawing since I didn't want Baxter to ruin anything that wasn't mine. No one ever told me the pros and cons. I know that he's not in pain now since he doesn't exhibit anything that would suggest pain in the past 10 years. Whew! Also, he still can catch and kill all sorts of presents for me, which surprises me as he doesn't have his front claws.:D Talent! I do worry that he doesn't have his natural defenses, though...always have. |
