I have a Maine Coon Cat that weighs about 25 lbs, a Maltese that weighs 9 lbs and my Yorkie which weighs about 3 lbs. They all get along great. |
I have 1 cat and 3 yorkies. They all play together fine. The cat Pepper will run up to them roll over and grab they by the head to wrestle. It is so funny. |
I also have a cat and a Yorkie. My 11 year old tuxedo cat Avery tolerates Sophie Kate just fine. Sophie Kate love, love, loves the cat and will kiss him and attempt to cuddle with him. Last weekend Sophie Kate went for her 1 year booster shots and did not do so well, she was groggy and really sore and wanted nothing to do with me. The only comfort she found was cuddled up next to Avery on the bed, it was so sweet Avery guarded Sophie Kate all day while she napped. The only thing I would suggest is teach the dog boundaries. Sophie Kate is not allowed to be bossy or jealous of Avery (he is my first love0 but she will if not reminded daily. |
I have a cat (Zoey) and two Yorkies (Shiloh and Lorelei). My cat is a Bombay, they are quite lovable and cuddly just like Yorkies are :) They get along great, my youngest Yorkie Lorelei and my cat actually sleep together in Zoey's cat house lol. |
Those are some sweet pictures! I grew up with a cat in the house and would have one now but my oldest daughter is allgeric to cats!:( |
2 by 2 I have 2 big dogs 2 yorkies 2 cats. You really can't predict anything. It all depends on the individual personalities of the animals, they are like people. Buster, my tuxedo, adores Bear and Baxter. He licks their eyes clean, cuddles with them, etc.. The yorkies on the other hand, I think he'd kill them if allowed. He weighs 15lbs and I believe he thought they were rodents/prey when first brought in, and can't get that out of his mind. He's getting better, but I have to really watch him. The more he observes Baxter playing with the girls the more accepting he becomes. In this case thank God he doesn't have claws because he would have done damage before I knew what the dynamics were. And yes, declawing is actually amputation of the first joint of each toe. It is painful, recovery is painful. I have a girlfriend who's vet cut too far back and her cat winces everytime it lands from a jump, surgery was several years ago, it will be in pain its entire life. My gf carries alot of guilt over this. I know it is a huge controversy. And it is a whole different thread... My other cat Buffy adores all God's creatures... a true flower child...LOL I believe from the progress I've seen that eventually Buster will accept the babies, not 'love' but accept. For about 16 years we had two cats that did not like each other. They co-habitated, but they never, ever liked each other. Just like people, you can't make good chemistry where none exists. I believe the occasions where an animal has to be rehomed because 'they dont get along' are extremely rare. They may not reach lovefest stage, but eventually most all will co-exist peacefully. They know how to avoid each other, and unlike people they usually can tolerate each other's presence better than humans can. We don't like someone we can't co-exist, we can't seem to keep our mouths shut...LOL, shoot we gotta declare war!!! |
The kitty and Yorkie photos are wonderful. Love them. Our part Himalayan kitty was determined to kill Chipper when we got him. We had to be very vigilant. Then we went on a trip leaving Missy Cat home. When we got home she was so lonesome that she decided to be friends and play with Chipper. I do have to be very careful, though, to separate them when I leave the house. Chipper is only 4.5 lbs. and Missy Cat weighs around 10. Too much difference in weight. Missy Cat likes to do body slams. One time I couldn't find Chipper and it turned out that Missy Cat was laying on top of him. I wasn't too happy. Now, my cranky senior girls don't even tolerate Missy Cat in the same room as they are. Poor kitty. My dh picks up Missy Cat and puts her on top of the couch when we are in his office. She loves to be where we are and the furbabies can't reach when she's on the couch back. On another note, you can clip the sharp ends of the kitty's nails. I've done that. Doesn't last too long, though, and tends to make a cranky kitty. |
i dont have a cat but my yorkie dose they are only a mounth apart so they grew up together |

My Yorkie Bailey tends to irritate my cat who is about 8 years old. He is not mean just wants to lick him to death. How could I break him of that? |
Yes I do. I breed Sphynx and my Chloe loves the cats. She barks at them when she wants them to chase her and play with her. They just look at her wondering "what is she doing going around in circles and barking at me for" lol...Chloe loves the cats more than my other dog. |
