I assume you will get to see her first to help make your decision. I'd also see if you can make taking her conditional on a positive health check by your vet.
Go for her. | The problem with a heath check is that there is no way to check for "genetic time bombs" this puppy may be carrying that may not go off for years. My Lady is a poorly bred rescue and was perfectly healthy for the first four years of her life. She now has diabetes, epilepsy, arthritis, hypothyroid, and has constant infections and eye problems because of her diabetes. I spend about $5,000 a year on her medications and basic vet visits just to monitor all her conditions. Unexpected vet bills are on top of that. So far this year that has been another $1,300.
Just make sure you are financially prepared for the vet bills that can come with a dog from a puppy mill. Also keep in mind that since Lacy is so young, you will have two seniors at the same time. Even healthy seniors are expensive as they age as they need frequent blood panels, dentals and invariably they will have some health problems.
My honest opinion, based upon what I have been through with Lady, would be to pass on this puppy. If you want to get another Yorkie, I'd get one from a really good breeder. It will be much, much cheaper in the long run. |
