| New to YorkieTalk... Hello there... I am a relatively new Yorkie owner. Have always had big dogs and now have a teenie tiny gorgeous Yorkie girl named Shire. She is six and a half months old and weighs under two pounds (1 lb. 13 ounces). Her siblings were much bigger but she just did not grow!!! Our vet says she is doing great and is incredibly healthy!!! Thank God. She is so loving and sweet I am amazed of the joy she has brought our family. She is scheduled to be spayed next week, but my husband and I just don't want to put her through that because of her size. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! |

| Welcome!! My Piper is just over 3 pounds. We are planning on waiting until around 8 months to spay her. I want to get it done before her first heat but lat enough that her body can handle it. Unfortunately, I have read a wide span of age of first heat from 6 months to 16 months!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Welcome to YT ! Shire sounds darling - I love her name...is that influenced by old England, btw? As for spaying - even though she is 6mths, you may have some time to wait bc she is tiny. Tinies often develop later, so there may be time before her first heat. Also, what is happening w/ her teeth right now, bc you'd want the vet to remove any baby teeth during her spay too - so usually, you watch the teeth a bit for timing the spay too. My Pfeiffer is 6mths old and we were just at the vet last week, and my vet said we should wait another month or 2 bc of teeth - she thinks we have more time yet for development.

| Welcome to YT. I have a little one also. I waited to have her spayed. She was a little of 1 yrs. old when I had it done. She did have one heat. She weighed 2.8 lbs. when I had it done. I am glad I waited.

| Welcome to yorkietalk. I agree with Wylie's Mom. Even though my dogs are NOT tiny ~ lol ~ I waited until we were sure she had lost the baby teeth she was going to loose naturally & saw the adult teeth coming in. Spay & teeth in one swoop. Pebbles was spayed when I got her, so I missed out on taking care of her.

| we chose to wait here as well. and Pickles did need a few teeth extractions when she was spayed. She was 13 months old and she actually had 2 heat cycles even though she is such a petite little girl. at 17 months she weighs 4 lbs soaking wet with her harness and tags. i keep hoping she grows into another half pound or so. her little size almost scares me, but her great dane 'tude is hysterical. she is such a cuddle bug!!

| Congratulations and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Shire is such a lovely name. I would confer with your vet of course, but she sounds a little on the small side for spaying at this point.
