I just got Harley a while back, and his mom was 5lbs dad was 4.5 lbs. So I knew the babies would most likely be small-ish. When they were born (4 of them) Harley weighed 4oz, his brother 2oz and two sisters both 4.5oz... the breeder cautioned me on taking the smallest boy cause he would possibly have problems, she wanted him to go to the more experienced owner on the wait list incase soemthing went wrong... I took the 4oz (Harley). He is 10 months and is 3.5lb... will most likely never get bigger... his "little" brother just hit 6lbs and is still growing. So even though I tried to take the bigger one I wound up with the smallest of the whole litter. But I love my little cupcake all the same!

Just spoke with my breeder who originally told me my Stuart would be around 5 lbs based on what he was charting at 6 weeks... Today she told me he is charting to be 7lbs! so I really don't think there is any way to guarantee what you want unless you rescue a little girl who is already "fully grown" to her adult size ?

3.5 pounds at 10 months, the puppy is still growing. My Gemma was that, maybe 3 pounds at that age. Your pup is still growing. Jemma's final weight was approx 6 pounds. She stopped gaining weight at about 16 months. She is now 19 months.
Little bigger is a whole lot better

When I got peanut I had no idea what size he was going to be! I didn't see his parents, I didn't ask how big they were, I didn't care. All I knew is that when I saw him I feel in LOVE with him. I just cared that he was a healthy puppy!! :aimeeyork I would love him if he turned out to be 10 lbs!!

If you want a yorkie, you want a yorkie no matter what size your yorkie turns out to be he/she is still a yorkie. No matter what size they are , they are all beautiful!! :D
When I first got Darwin I didn't care about his size. He is a very healthy 7 pounds and I'm totally happy with him in every way. My second one I wanted to be smaller as I was in a car accident a couple of years ago and don't have the shoulder strength I used to. For both of my pups safety, I want to be able to quickly lift them in case another dog comes towards them. Sometimes people are looking for a smaller size to have them fit into their lives a bit better.

New info on Hurliman Kennels
 
I know this thread is rather old, but my mother purchased a yorkie from buy puppies direct, it to came from Hurliman kennels. Things where fine with her pup up until se decided to bred her, well it didnt turn out well, 2 deformed puppies, front leg deformaties and one was born with its insides on the outside, sorry i know its aweful. The sire was of awesome breeding so we wernt sure what went wrong. She pulled up her papers and gave me the last name of hurliman. I started researching and BOY WHERE WE SHOCKED! We are all just heart sick to think tis is where our little missy came from. and even more sick that we bred her not knowing this. I wanted you all to know that Mr. Dwayne Hurliman is still selling yorkies, I found his new website and I wanted to share it with anyone interested. Please contact me anytime. This is his new site he was not shut down just changed his name!

One of the signs of a bad breeder is someone who sells on open registration. This means they do not care where their dogs wind up or who breeds for them. When man steps in and starts breeding animals, he takes nature out of the process, and man must continue to step in and breed intelligently. Breeding intelligently is not an intuitive thing, it takes years of study to learn how to do this, but most people don't care, they think any offspring is acceptable, as long as it's pureblood, and in truth purebred means very little, it just means that they come from a line of dogs related to each other. However, the breeders who produced the lines could have done everything wrong! It's hard for the newbie to get started and do it right, but someone who really wants to breed for the right reasons, will find someone who's willing to teach them about breeding. By the way, just because the sire was from an awesome breeding program, it doesn't mean he wasn't the one who passed this on, each dog may have had one recessive gene, that's why it's so important to know the lines.

That certainly is horrific and, once again, makes me SO glad that I had my Lucy spayed and will never, ever subject her to this.

I'm sorry for your loss, I'm guessing the puppies died or were PTS?

I hope that anyone who is thinking about willy-nilly breeding their dog reads your post and thinks twice.

If there were an issue with bonding, I guess all the rescues that have been found homes even at 10 or 11 years old would not be possilble.
Any dog or puppy is more thanhappy to go to a good home where they get one on one attention, make sure you are around a fair bit, play with it spend the time iwth it. That creates a bonding relationship, not the age of the puppy.
If I have apuppy that is particularly small, I will not let it go anywhere until minimum over 6 months already spayed/neutered.
The reason is that I want to be sure it is ok and not small due to health issues that can turn up as they get a litlte older.
It is far too risky to let a very tiny puppy go to a new home at a very young age.
Any of my puppies that I know will be going to pet homes do not go until 3 1/2 4 months of age even if they are on the larger side.

I wholeheartedly agree with the above posts. It really does take time and research to be able to breed with a good outcome. Sure, some willy-nilly (I love that saying) breeders get really lucky, some not so much. That's why my boy is neutered as well. I don't know his background, he doesn't look like a Yorkie should, so why add to the ongoing problem? I'm so sorry to hear about the pups your mom's dam had.

Your post sounds reasonable to me. I'm actually thinking I'd be more comfortable, when and IF I'm ever ready for yorkie #2, to have the pup come home to me older than 12 weeks in order for them to be evaluated longer by the breeder and his/her vet. I believe that offers peace of mind for both the new owner (me) and the breeder. We both know they pup will be happy and healthy, so why not wait? My then 1 year old and I bonded very well, so I know age isn't a factor when it comes to that.

Spectacular Yorkies
I just went to the Spectacular Yorkies website.....it appears that their dogs consist of Lake Buena Vista Dogs. I'm not sure if Dwayne Hurliman obtained his dogs from Lake Buena Vista or Lake Buena Vista changed their names....

Yes, it looks like Spectacular Yorkies, is connected to Lake Buena Vista, and there is someone by the name of Dwayne who ownes the site. Attachment 335225
