I had this problem and here is the advice that I got that worked.

1. Use an enzyme pet cleaner to remove smells from the house.
2. Put them on a leash and don't let them move from that area until they have done number 2. Just stand there, don't praise after they pee because they will think they are done and get excited from the praise. Praise them after they've done both this way you will not distract them and they know they aren't done until they've done both, even if they run to you afterwards expecting praise, just stand there and wait in the same spot until they do #2. Hope this was good advice, it helped me.

i have been trying to find some functional pee pads, the kind ive tried are too thin, wet thru, aor slip on the floor or are sooooo large it takes up half my little bathroom???? what to get? i hear on the fake grass pads but if my dog hasnt been outside much would he know its an ok-potty landing strip? thanks

I read that you should name the deed, so I tell mine to go pipi, when they do, they received praise and a treat, I take them to another spot in the back yard and tell them go poo, if they have to they will, they go 2x a day so I keep a mental track of when its time. Sometimes my male pretends he does not have to go, but I bring him back to the spot or he finds one and goes.
When I was potty training, I watched them like a hawk, so if I saw them starting to squat I would pick them up on the way out the door I would say poopie outside, when I put them on the grass I would tell them poopie outside... they would finish outside. If they dropped something inside, I would take it with me (in a tissue) and put it on the grass, point to it telling them- poopie outside.

Something else I have done is ... if the girls are done with #1 &2, I bring them inside and go back outside with the male, he gets it that if he is not finished he is not coming inside.

Another thing, when training if I was busy I would tie their leash to me to keep an eye on them or put them in an xpen with a washable pipi pad.

Keep at it, they can still be trained.

have you learned what the "poopy dance" looks like yet. i don't know if all yorkies do it or just mine, but she paces, sniffs, squats, and paces more, she does this really fast and very very concentrated it's different than any other playtime pacing or sniffing...i always know it's that dance and take her out until it happens. she will be outside for a long time and coming back inside she'll start the dance...just watch the dog a lot when they get ready to poop and learn the dance!!

also, sometimes a dog will hold their bladder when outside because they know that once they go, they have to come back inside. you might try to play with the dog first before trying to get them to poop, or like what i do with Sadie is, she's penned up in a chicken wire fence to pee and poop. i wait until she's done it, praise her, and then we play outside, she knows there is no play until she's gone.

also, sometimes you have to wait and wait, and sometimes get them to run and walk around a bit more at the normal pooping time of day to help them get it all shook down i guess before they can go...

good luck!

I have the same problem. It drives me crazy. They will go out to pee most of the time ( my boys wear belly bands) but no sooner I bring them in the poop. What absolutly aggravates me is that they have a dog door that lets them outside to a well protected covered 12x12 pen. There really is no excuse.. My little girl also likes the bathroom rug. Any ideas how to make the outside pen more appealing to them then the inside of my house? Picking up poop inside the house is really getting old. Oh also I do feel 2x per day and this saying of them going soon after they eat does not always seem to work cause I am picking up poop several times a day.

i must be lucky, mine's the opposite she always poops outside and even uses her bell to tell me to go out to poop, but she has potty accidents still in the house on the blankets we have over our carpet...lots of blanket washing in my house when i'm not paying enough attention to get her outside....urghh.

I've noticed that sitting outside while they do their business is the best at making sure they do both #1 and #2. My Carly is the bad one when it comes to going potty inside. She was used to pee pads before in her previous home but I prefer outside so I'm trying to get her to go outside more often. She poos more often in a single day then any dog I've ever seen though...it's never ending! lol

It is a pretty common thing with yorkies (in my experience) to poop in the house but not pee. This is generally the last stage of house breaking. If ou feed kibble (as I do) it is simple to remove. Once I notice this, I generally take the puppy to the area and tell him/her "I am not happy" then I proceed to take them out. You can use whatever words you generally use for training. All three know if mommy ain't happy ain't nobody happy LOL If thy are hiding and doinf it, they know they are doing something wrong and you better break that habit ASAP. This IJMO

You might want to try washable potty pads. They absorb lots, won't leak and are much cheaper in the long run. I can also make custom sizes if needed. You can check out the link in my signature.
