				   | I just got a new baby girl...she is 13 weeks old and quite small, however I took her to my vet yesterday where she passed the exam with flying colors..she got her shots however my vet gives puppies that are tiny a shot of benedryl first and keeps them for an hour after the shots to see how they do... but she does not really bark..instead she makes kind of a purring noise when she gets excited or plays..does this sound normal? Thanks |

				   | My male purrs like a kitty; he yodels; he has an AMAZING range of "calls" - and he barks, too. He's a very effective communicator. The little girl just barks and growls like a "normal" dog ... I was hoping she'd pick up on his noises and mimic, but she didn't. So, if she continues with the other sounds, you will have a very entertaining pup - more so than they usually are.Congrats on your new pup! |

				   | Sounds really cute. ![]() Maddie growls when she wants something, I guess that it could kind of sound like a purr. She growls to be picked up or go out side or if you're not doing what she wants quick enough. They learn quick how to get their way.

				   | Mine did the same thing--she didn't bark until almost 6 mos. Her first bark was at the starbucks drivethru window when it opened! We laughed so hard and she scared herself with her voice! So cute. |

				   | I swear that Coral purrs. When i cuddle with her she will snuggle her head in the nook of my shoulder and make like a purr noise. I just always say she is part cat. people think i am crazy, but i know what i hear!

He does the growl / bark if you ignore him and he wants something. I think I've made him into a spoiled brat so we're working on that

				   | They do sound like little kittens purring when they are about 4 to 8 weeks. Your Vet sounds like he know what he is doing! Good for him to take precautions...Welcome.... |

				   | I got my little Apple, when she was 11 1/2 weeks old, and she didn't bark for several months...and when she did, it was so darn cute, it made me grin from ear to ear...She still doesn't bark very much, thank goodness, but now she's 9 1/2 months old, it's a nice clear "vocal" bark...Usually, just when someone knocks on the door, or the door bell rings, or she "thinks" she sees something through the patio door at night...I bet the purring is just a little baby practice of barking...like exercising the vocal chords...I bet it's so cute And oh my, do you sound like you have a good vet....happy for you and your new baby |
