Call me crazy but.... I took in a new puppy this evening. The person was going to sell her to me or to someone else, didn't care as long as she got the money. She was the last of the litter, and she's only 7.5 weeks old. I know that they are suppose to stay with their mom longer, but I couldn't let her go to someone who didn't have experience. It's possible that she could have gone to someone that didn't know about low blood sugar etc. When I got her, her gums where as white as snow and she was shaking from being so nervous. So, I tucked her into my purse (she's only 1.5lbs) and rushed into the grocery store with her. I got some dark Karo syrup and put it in her mouth as soon as we got back in the car. I sat there with her for about 10 minutes making sure that she got plenty. She stopped shaking and then I brought her home. She really came to live after seeing my other Yorkies. Ellie is such a good momma dog that she tooked to her right away. The puppy, which I am calling Izzy, is now very perky and is now sleeping after the first hour of being home. I am taking her to the vet in the morning. Wish Izzy a good exam and health. |
I probably would have done the same thing. Good luck at the vet!!! |
You are soooo awesome!!!! I'll be praying all goes well with the vet. ((((((((HUGS))))))))) |
That's a wonferful thing you did. I hope everything goes well at the Vet. |
You are so sweet and so not crazy. The person would have sold her to just anyone who probably would not have been so caring and knowing what to do for her. Congratulations. Hoping good things for the vet visit. |
You did the right thing, the so called breeder only cares about the money, so who knows where the poor puppy could have ended up! |
What a wonderful thing you've done:) Hope all goes well for you and little Izzy! |
Thank you all. Well, I am off to the vets. They open at 8 this morning and I want to be there first thing. She's not eating the dog food that the breeder sent home, so I think I am going to need some canned puppy food. I will talk it all over with the doctor this morning and will update everyone when I get back. Thanks so much for the kind words and prayers. |
I'm praying all goes well. I think the canned food should do the trick too. ((((HUGS)))) |
Update from the vet I just got back from the vet. She got a clean bill of health with the exception of fleas  They gave her some Revolution for dogs under 5lbs. She weighed 1.5lbs as the vet, so I know that my scales are right too. They also gave her a B12 shot with something in it to increase her appite. I also got some nutri-cal. She will be due for another shot around 8/24. Thank you so much for the warm thoughts and comments. I will probably post some pictures after I can give her a bath, which isn't for 48 hours now because of the flea treatment. Thanks again everyone. Lisa |
Bless your heart! As my sister would say, this will get you stars in your crown in heaven. Can't wait to see her pictures. Vivian |
You did the right thing.:) |
Glad to hear she is doing good. |
Congrats on the new addition! |
You're Awesome!!!! :good job: :justahug: (Hug!!) |
Congrats on the new furbaby! |
Congratulations on your new addition. Aren't Yorkies the best? |
Congradulations on the new baby, I am glad that her checkup went well. Good for you for opening your heart to this little girl. Cant wait to see pictures. |
So glad you got the baby and not a rookie!!! Keep us posted and post pics ASAP! :cheer: |
That's wonderful!! I am so happy you got her. |
You aren't crazy at all, I definitely would have done the same thing. (If I could have convinced my dh). The thought of that poor little baby going to someone who didn't know how to care for her, is just too scary. Bless you for taking her in . :) |
Just seeing this post for the first time. Crazy is not the word for you, wonderful is. That poor puppy could have gone to someone who had no knowledge of yorkies and who knows what the outcome would have been. Bless you for stepping up and taking care of her. Hugs to you and little Izzy!!! |
How is she now? You probably saved her life. |
What a wonderful thing you did ! Hows the little one doing? Fleas on such a tiny puppy can be very bad  So glad the vet took care of that, and you got to save her ! How cute it is that she fits right in with your other yorkies. these babies love to be social. SHe will learn so much just with your other crew there to teach her . My little Shih Tzu pup now thinks she is a Yorkie ;) Suzi has been a wonderful role model ! LOL . |
I hope Izzy has a good exam. I would have and have done the same thing. My Bella who is now 5 yrs. old came to us at 5 weeks old. Yes, 5 weeks old. The breeder had a whole litter and did not care who got them and just wanted them gone. Bella was the last one and sick when I got her. Like you I took her because I knew she would have died with someone else. We did not pay much for her. Really nothing. She was head to toe in fleas and bites. The vet said had I not gotten her right then and there and had I not taken her home and dipped her in Dawn Dish Detergent to get rid of the upward of 100 fleas on her she would have been dead by the next morning. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Good luck with Izzy. Elaine |
So glad to see everything went well. Now tons of love and care will get her right on track ;) You are so amazing for saving her life and she will repay you with tons of love. So great to sit down and see that all is well with her :D |
I see that as a glass half full... How lucky was Izzy to find her new mommy who would take such loving care of her! |
That is such a wonderful thing that you did, glad to hear that Izzy is doing much better. |
I wanted to let everyone know that Izzy did really well over the weekend. She has some major separation issues, but I think that she will get through them. I put a small harness on her with bells so that I would know where she is at all times. She has been sleeping in the bed with me at night, right under my chin. I don't mind because I know how much she misses her mom. Last night, she actually even played and barked at the other Yorkies I have. I get to give her a bath tonight. The vet said to wait 48 hours after the Revolution treatment so that it didn't get washed off. I can't wait to give her a bath. After the bath, I plan to take some pictures. She is really dark in color, so her official name is Lisa's Isabell Chocolates. She is eating well now and drinking and you know what that means, potty everywhere. I am very lucky to have found and rescued her. I think that with time, she will be alright. If I could just get used to the crying when she is away from me (more than 10 feet) then I will be alright. It's breaking my heart. I wish that I could take her to work with me, but that is a big no no. Well, time for me to go give her some loving and then go to work. Thanks everyone. I will post pics to this thread so that you can all meet Izzy. |
Oh, that is so sweet! Good Luck!!! Cant wait to see pics |
