Sleeping in the bed with you? Jerry is now 5 months old and hasnt had an accident during the night in over a month. as of right now his "den"/crate is downstairs in the living room and my bedroom is upstairs.I feel like hes so far away! i could move his crate to my room but then he wouldent have it to sleep in during the day if he wanted to? he has never had a problem with his bedroom arrangement and neither have I because I usually donty allow dogs in my bed because im so used to having 100+lb dirty dogs. Now that I have little Jerry I was thinking that maybe I could have him sleep with me in the bed at night? I know hes trustworthy(to not piss), but I ive seen an episode if the dog whisperer i think where Ceasar says that if they sleep in bed with you they start thinking they are "the boss"like the dog not wanting your husband in the bed with you and nipping at him and such? im not sure if im exactly right about what im talking about because i saw this episode a while ago so i guess the real questions IS: howmany of you let your dog sleep in the bed with you? and have you had any problems with it??:animal-pa |
Out of my six, two girls sleep with me every night. No potty issues but it is not fun when one of them (aa yapper) is sitting right next to my head yapping at four in the morning. If he is happy with his current arrangement, I would leave him be. |
Mine sleeps with me too, but I agree you have to be prepared for the 4 am bark attack, some times I wonder if my house has ghosts because I never can see what she is barking at....but it looks like she is staring at something... Id let him sleep with you , mine has never had a accident and she is only 8 months.. |
I tried letting Apple sleep w/me when she was sleeping through the night...However, I didn't really rest well, worrying about her jumping off the bed, during the night...And since I have to work, it wasn't a good thing...After 3 nights, she went back to the living room, where she has pillows all around the couch, and little sleep places on the couch, ie. pillow one end, blanket the other...She didn't seem at all upset, when I put her back in the living room...I think once they get used to a sleeping arrangement, they're just fine w/it... |
All of mine have slept with me. All at different ages. Cali was fine in her play pen in my room until she was trained at about 7 months. Roxie at about 5 months and Pixie was 13 months when I got her but not trained but screamed when I put her in a crate so she slept with my from day one. When I had Gracie she wouldn't settle down in the bathroom off my bedroom so the first night(she was 9 weeks old) she fell asleep on the middle of my pillow and never slept anywhere else, I did get her up once during the night to go outside. So I pretty much try to keep them in a crate or confined until I know they can hold it through the night, but with some they were pad trained and could get off the bed and use the pad so they slept with me sooner. Fortunately,I never had one wet the bed. I have always wanted them with me as soon as possible. I have never had a problem with them thinking they were alpha. |
My husband took our Tessa to bed with us the first time when she was 3 months old! She is basically my dog, but she has him wrapped around he little paw!! And I guess he decided that she was lonely in her crate (even tho I didn't have a problem with it) We have had no accidents, and she sleeps until he gets her up at 6 when he gets up to go to work. I was worried that he would roll over on her cause she likes to sleep in the middle of the bed and he is a heavy sleeper, but he actually has woken up and told me to watch out if she was somewhere different in the bed so I would see her!! Go figure! |
Ours sleep with us and they dont have any aggression problems |
Molly sleeps with us and we've never had aggression problems. I watch the trainer shows too, but I try to remember that not all dogs are the same, and just like with kids, not all forms of discipline work for each one. I absolutely LOVE Molly sleeping with me. She does get banished at certain times...tv is a good babysitter for kids and dogs...ha! Give it a try and if it works for you, enjoy it!! |
Ours are allowed to sleep wherever they want (well, S'mores...Livi's 8 week old puppy sleeps in his kennel next to our bed). Harley normally sleeps in the living room and the other three used to always sleep with me and my husband. But in the past couple of months, Huckleberry has become very close to my 6 year old daughter and he now only wants to sleep with her. Livi and Izzy still want with mommy and daddy, though. :) We do not have any aggression or dominant issues with any of them. |
Our oldest yorkie sleeps in the bed with us! We haven't had any problems as far as accidents, but I have kicked her (she sleeps at the bottom of the bed under the covers on my side) a few times... We've woken up to her once or twice to her barking, but it wasn't too late at night! Our youngest one had an accident in our bed a few weeks after we got her so her sleeping with us right now is out of the question! She loves her crate too much anyway! |
Samantha has always slept with me. Never had an accident and she doesn't bark at night. We've never had a problem with aggression. |
Peanut sleeps with us when HE wants too!! He has a little stool and will jump up there. But when he was a little younger we did let him sleep with us in the bed with us and it was our job to know when he was moving around and needed to pee...but he did have some accidents!! But we just worked with him, took him potty before we went to bed. Eventually he got it down. I dont really care what ceaser says he is my baby and if he wants to sleep with me then he can :D If you want to start having your baby sleep with you, just start working with them, it is a hassle in the begining bc you have to sleep really light and watch them, wake up when you feel them moving..but in the end its worth it.. |
p.s i have no aggression or dominant issues with him...he does act spoiled lol but thats it =) |
One of mine feels more comfortable sleeping in her penned off area (just big enough to hold her bed only) she can't get out and nothing can get in. I tried letting her sleep in bed with me but she would figgit all night long, bark at things I couldn't see or hear (of course once she would start barking, so did the rest of them) leaving us both tired the next day. The two males start off in bed while I'm watching the news, as soon as I turn off the tv, one goes to the livingroom and sleeps on the back of the couch and the other will stay for a llittle while after the tv goes off but, I always find him curled up in his bed in the dining room later on. I never had any problem with any of them wanting to be charge of the pack. They all know the leader is the one that controls the food! Me. |
Missy has slept with us since day 1. I wouldn't have it any other way, and we've had zero problems. I love my puppy kisses in the morning :) |
My 5 month old yorkie sleeps with me .. and he has since day one... he does have the 4am barking problem, but this just started. ( hopefully he stops soon.. i have no idea whats he barking at ?? ) other then that he is ok .. i love him being there :D I would have it no other way !! |
Oliver started sleeping with me after I had him for about 3 months (he's approx. a year old). No accidents, but I do take him out in the middle of the night as I find he sleeps longer if I do. I do get the wake up barks every now and again, but he's usually pretty good. I did just get a new bed though, and of course all the new ones are super high, so I worry about him a lot. He's jumped off a few times and was fine, but one of these times.... I need to find something to put near the bed so he can safely get on and off. |
Maddie has slept with me from day one. Well, she has had the option to sleep up in bed with me since day one. I have doggie stairs (sooo cute! :)) and if she wants she can sleep up in bed with me but I would say 75% of the time she is sleeping on my shirt on the floor that I wore that day! She isn't fully potty trained yet so I leave a puppy pad out just in case I don't wake up and she ALWAYS gets off the bed and goes to the potty pad if she needs to go. If she is tired in the middle of the day she goes to my room, hops up the puppy stairs and crashes in my bed. I love that little stinker! Just have to make sure that my ENTIRE room is puppy-proofed because she will get down and play in the middle of the night while I am sleeping. My room has never been kept so clean! haha |
Rambo sleeps with me, my son (who is 30), or my husband. I prefer him sleeping with me cause when he has a reversed sneezing attack, I can calm him down by just rubbing and massaging him. When it comes to 9 pm he looks up at me and just about says its time for bed. |
Piper has been sleeping with me since she was about 5 months old. She use to sleep in her crate but I have a 24 year old son that likes to stay up all night. Piper slept in the kitchen but everytime she saw my son (raiding the fridge) she thought it was time to get up and wanted out of the crate. Now when I bring her to bed she scoots under the covers and snuggles up to my legs and she doesn't move or makes a peep until the alarm goes off in the morning. Then she comes out from under the covers and gives me that look that says tell me it's not morning. I literally have to scoop her up out of the bed and carry her outside to do her business. Even then she sits at first and just looks at me, you got to be kidding. I tell her do potty and she goes on command. Once she's back inside she's off and running and her day begins. |

I sleep in their bed Lol !!!! Well since they think it's their bed , I sleep with them Lol. They go to bed before I do , one on each side. I sleep in the middle, use to get the 4-5 o'clock wake up call, but now they do really good by 6:30 or 7:00am we all get up, I open my eyes to see what they r doing and if they see I'm awake they jump on me to get rub, and then mommy gets lots of kisses. Wouldn't have it any other way !!!! one is pad train and I can hear her get up at night to go potty, he won't us the pad , he also don't get off the bed at night, and waits until morning to go outside. bark@ulater!!!! manina,miley:aimeeyork,max:animal36 |
Our Oscar started to sleep with us when he was about 5 months old, until then he sleeped in his crate by my side of the bed, we started to let him fall asleep on the bed and then I would put him in his crate to sleep, after a few times of making him go into his crate he refussed to go in it so, my hubby who said he would never never allow a dog in the bed said leave him in the bed then, and he has been there ever since, Our newest Keysha sleeps in her crate cuz she is not well trained yet and she seems to be ok in the crate, she does comming in bed in the am for awhile. It has its pros and cons like everything else, only you can decide where he is best. Oscar sometimes thinks the bed is his but I just tell him it is my bed and there is always the floor, and he gets better. |
Zeus is nearly 9 months old and had always slept in his crate. I am going to experiment by putting his bed next to mine tonight to see how he does. I am afraid of rolling on him or him falling out of my bed to have him sleep with me. I just hope he doesn't wander the house instead of sleep. Wish me luck! |
We adopted Tessie in March and she was 2 1/2 yrs old. Her previous owners had let her sleep in the bed with them. I was nervous about the sleeping situation when we brought her home, but when we put her in bed with us the first night she curled up between us and slept all night. We have the 'doggie steps' so she can get on and off the bed, but she has never had an accident. She just fit right in and my husband loves her kissies in the morning  |
All 3 of my girls sleep with us. Never had any problems. Most of the time I get up before they do. |
