Issue: "Is my lawn a toilet?" I was walking Ninja today around my neighborhood. He usually sniffs other peoples lawns and pees on them. I also bring a bag to clean up his poop too. So he was sniffing away on some guys lawn and he was standing at his door. Then he asks me "Is my lawn a toilet?" I always see people walking their dogs and letting them pee on lawns, poles, corners, etc. I didn't think that it was unwelcome as long as you clean up the poop. Am I suppose to train my dog not to pee on other peoples lawns? If so, where is he suppose to go when I walk him? He usually goes in a litter box but when I walk him, he'll just go around marking his territory. Or is it just a matter of opinion? |
Some people are funny about it but most arent. As long as your picking up the poop I wouldnt worry about it. |
I once had a lady tell me she didn't think "they would appreciate me letting my dog pee and poop all over their yard" in reference to the yard we were next to - not hers. At the time we weren't even peeing, just sniffing. I always clean up the poop, but it never ocurred to me that pee on the grass at the street would bother people. We never walked that way again. She wasn't a dog person, whereas the lady whose yard it was, had 2 of her own, who I often saw walking them as well. I would say matter of opinion, but even still I've been very conscious of it ever since then, and I try and rush my boys along to the "safe" potty area (no front yards). |
I would just reply innocently, "Gosh, it doesn't look like a toilet to me!" and let that be it. I think as long as you have a bag to pick up poop, you are OK> |
Pee is ok MY answer to that man would b , Yes, when the dogs needs to pee, if the dog poop I will clean it up. I have a corner lot and everyone and their mother walks their dogs on my lawn , that I take sooooo good care of. I don't mind the pee , but if u don't pick up the poop I will b all over u and if u tell me u don't have a bag I will give u one. I can't belives people walk their dogs with out a bag or bags. What makes u think I should pick up after your dog. I walk my all the time, and I have a few bags with me. bark@ulater!!!! manina, miley:aimeeyork, max:animal36 |
Sounds like something my mom would say! She gets mad when her neighbors dog urinates in her yard..it can cause "brown spots" in the grass. I always try to walk my dogs in "common areas" away from anyones actual front yard.... |

I never let Morgan walk on their main lawn, but she does go on the piece of lawn between the side walk and the street. I was told that technically the city owns that piece which is why you'll see them doing ripping it up when doing street construction or you'll see them planting trees without asking the house owner. at least that's how it is in my city. So next time i'd be a smart ass and tell them it isn't their lawn. |
To be honest, I think he has a point. What if someone wants to walk barefoot on their lawn? Also, we all know that when we pick up poop off grass, it's not always a surgical operation. There are not a lot of lawn in my area, but I don't let Thor pee on flowerbeds or store fronts. He gets to pee on garbage cans, street lamps, mail boxes, etc. Poop is done right on the side walk, and picked up. |
I have to agree that he has a point. I don't particularly like people letting their dogs use my front yard to pee and poop. I make sure my dogs go potty before we start our walk and only release them (if need be) to go in the desert areas (in phoenix there's not really that much grass lol) that are not part of anyone's yard. I carry a bag just in case but their walk is for walking not going potty. |

When I walk my dog we always walk near the devil strip ( the part of grass next to the road) I always try to make sure that she does not do anything in peoples front yards. Some people are very particular about there lawns . That is how my dad is . His lawn is beautiful and he probably would have said the same thing. |
I never let Lacey walk on a neighbors's lawn. We always use the sidewalks or common areas. To be honest, I would not be happy if someone allowed their pets to use my lawn either. |
My 2 that are pad trained only go inside and the one that goes outside only goes in my yard so I don't run into that, but my understanding is if you walk them on the street side (parkway) that is city property and as long as you clean up the poop that's fine. When I had my Pom I never let her on people's lawn. |
I mean, I understand where he is coming from, however since I'm a dog person, it doesn't bother me if you allow your dog to go on my lawn. But I could see if you don't have dogs that it would bother you. I live on a 3 acre property so we don't live in a neighborhood, but 3x a week I drive Jackson to a neighborhood to walk him and I allow him to pee on the corners of the grass, but not like in the middle of someone's yard or anything. Poop is always picked up. Over at my dad's house, it's a neighborhood with about 12 houses but it's still in the "country" and basically all but our dogs are off leash and all over the place... so they poop and pee all over, lol. |
