| ![]() I have read that you can crate train at any age. Just keep at it, consistency wins and treats too. With my male, I crate trained, I started taking him out every 30 minutes to get him used to it, if he tinkled, we would come in to play, if he did not, then we would wait another 30 minutes or so and try again, as he got the hang of it I would increase the time. With Jazz, I had her leash attached to me, any signs of a squat and we went outside, I pointed to the grass telling her to go pipi there, in your case you can do this with the pad or outside. When going to someones home, I would have her tinkle on the grass before going into the house. Maybe that may work for you. Good luck.

| ![]() Yes, you can crate train a 7 month old yorkie. They are very smart. We had to crate train our second yorkie we aquired at 7 months. We crate trained our first yorkie at 8 weeks. It's a good method that works very well. ![]() |

| ![]() I thought I was never going to housebreak Apple, and then I got laminate floors, and got rid of the carpet...I'm sure she couldn't help herself, w/all the "old" scents around the carpet...And I don't care what you use, you never really get it all out...After I got the laminate, I was diligent in taking her out regularly and praising her...Also, I didn't go ballistic, when she did have an accident, and I didn't see her...I just cleaned it up w/natures' miracle ( and that does get it completely off of laminate, and voila, one day I realized she was housebroken! Now,I do have to run home from work, after about 5 or 6 hrs. and let her out, but, as long as I don't leave her any longer than 6 1/2 hrs., she's good to go...She weighs 4 1/2 lbs. and is 9 1/2 months old now...I'm sooooo proud of my boo boo baby ![]() |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Niyah is 2 yrs old and I just got her last month and literally she was potty trained in days and I am not exaggerating. She was previously pee pad trained. Sure she had couple of accidents but that is my fault because I waited a little longer than I usually did but that gave me the incentive of keeping my end of the bargain. So now I take her out everytime she is not in my arms. The trick that worked for me was I took her on walks and that is how she learned to potty outside. I would praise her everytime. I have to do it in a soft voice because the first time, I was so excited, I praised her a little loud and clapped my hands and she had this startled look on her face. So, I figured Yorkies ears must be sensitive to loud noises so I started praising her real soft and clap my hands soft too. Crate training works too. I have a year old Samoyed that took a year for her 10 mos to learn to be fully potty trained. She was a very slow learner. My patience was wearing thin with her but we made it. The only problem she has now is when I go to get her to take her out, she gets so excited that she pees on the floor. I don't know how to break that habit. So what I do is I put her leash on after I get her outside or if she is in the kennel, I put the leash on first and if she pees in the kennel while putting her leash on, it can be cleaned easily. Oh, eventually I should be finished soon with training Apple. Niyah may be only a year older than Apple but she is a heck of a lot smarter than Apple.
