Were yorkies always so expensive? Or is it because they are popular now  |
Im sure they werent before they became so popular but being they are a small breed and have small litters Im sure theres always been some expense to them. |
In my experience they have always been a little more expensive even more than some other small dogs but so worth it. |

they are not as popular now as they were two years ago and in fact, have dropped on the charts. Also they aren't nearly as expensive now as they were two years ago. I am getting half out of my babies that I got two years ago if I can even sell them. That's why so many breeders slowed way down on their breeding last year. |
I got my first Yorkie back in 1977 and they were expensive then too for that time. I remember my mom almost fainting when I told her how much we paid for JT..lol. They have always been expensive dogs. |

I have never got as much for a puppy as i paid for some of the parents but in my part of the country (all small towns) they do not sell as high as they would in bigger towns or cities. I know a lady in Ca. thats gets more than twice the money that i do and we have some of the same bloodlines |
We have a classifieds here that I check every now and then. Well actually in SLC Utah, but I check them since there so close. They sell there breeding females on there for 500 dollars  Which shouldn't they be somewhere close to 2000? |
I bought my first yorkie in 95 and spent $500. At the time I thought it was a lot of money but Chipper was worth every penny. |

We paid $645 for Chloe and my mom's jaw about hit the floor. My toy poodle, nine years ago, had only cost $150. I'm not sure if I'd be able to own more than one Yorkie at that price...but I gave up all birthday/Christmas presents from my husband for the next couple of years in exchange for her! :D -C |
I live near SLC and the prices here have gone way way down. I think there are just tons of breeders here willing to take anything they can get for a pup. I see them for $400 AKC. Crazy. |

Yeah I do look on there. It is nuts isn't it? Did you notice there are more than 3,200 dogs for sale on there?! WOw. Where are you going shopping at? |
I'm not sure yet? My sister hasn't made her decision. Do you have any suggestions? :D |
When I got my first yorkie in 1994 she was $800. I had saved 25.00 a week to get the money to buy her. In 1999, I paid $1750 for my little guy in the avatar, Jesse. That was before the $2500 to get him championed! My next show boy was $2500 before handling/show fees. That was the last one I've bought. Now I just make my own. :D The economic situation has dropped the prices on most things, houses, cars, as well as dogs. Although, in the online adds that are REALLY low, ($150 for a tiny female), most are from out of the country and people are losing money in these scams. |
I have all boys, so I have no clue on dresses. I can ask them to ask their gf though, if you like. I have always tried to buy quality dogs, and paid accordingly. I would rather save up like you did to buy one than get a cheap one. I think it is just too risky. These people that buy the cheap dogs have no idea what they are getting into. |
Rockie was purschased by my daughter. I really tried to discourage her from buying him. I so did not want a dog inside. I thought she paid too much for him. But I now adore Rockie. My daughter always asked "mom would you sell Rockie for five thousand" l always say "no" he's apart of our family now. |
We have two yorkies that we bought in the last 3 years that are just adorable but with no papers for a couple hundred and didnt think anything of it, they are perfect to us. Now that we are buying a new boy- we understand and appreciate the quality and are willing to pay more for him. |
Prices $$$ Prices vary from where you are located and background history and so on. I know what you are talking about when it comes to $$ in this day and age. I hope things get better with jobs and everything soon! We are blessed and pray for those having hard times! |
Its supply and demand yorkies are so popular i see everyone with one. if people want it that bad they will pay for it. like the tinny tinny ones no matter how many people complain their is no such thing as a teacup people still want the little ones and pay big for them. its harder to breed smaller dogs too more complications that's why their price is expensive. plus cost of regular living went up so cost of everything else is up too. |
I paid $800 for my baby in Feb but now they are selling for $1500 upwards so prices have risen in New Zealand anyway he was worth every cent and I wouldn't sell him for a million, I would hate to think what I've spent on him since purchase but my boy needs all the gear he's got plus more. |
I do not think that just yorkies are expensive, all breeds are pricey when you are purchasing for quality and history. |
Is Izzy a therapy dog? |
I bought a little girl Yorkie in 1983 and paid $300.00. I paid $500.00 in 2009. |
Were Yorkies always expensive? I believe it depends a lot on where you live. Also, the economy has greatly affected the cost, and the purchasing of dogs. Tuckse's Mom |
I'm thinking that prices are not as high over here in the UK as they are in the USA? Over here i suppose the average price would be £300-400....Pixie was a bit more than that at £600...I got a bonus at work so that nearly paid for her! I was looking for a Chihuahua at first, they were even more expensive i found...then decided to stick with my first love...The Yorkie!:aimeeyork |
I bought my 1st Yorkie in 1986 and he was $550.00. It is sad how expensive these little furbabies cost. |
