New puppy long night

OMG:eek:This was night #2 and he barked all night:(Hello everyone! I am back with day 2 puppy update. Jada and Mimms are getting along as well as can be expected. But last night when it was time to go to bed he was not a happy camper. Night #1 he slept in his crate no problems. The following day he was home all day with my girls. And now he is glued to the hip of my 12yr old. He took naps all day in her bed and pretty much just hung out with her while I was at work.
So when we put him and Jada in their crates to go to bed he would not stop barking.Their crates were in Ashleys room and she slept through the noise. Ok I said he will stop on his own dont go and get him. That was at 10:30pm, now it's 11,12,1 you get the picture. Mind you it was not bark bark bark bark. He would bark stop for a few minutes then bark again and again and again:confused:you get the picture. So I finally got up put a diaper on him and let him sleep in the bed with Ashley. How come no was else's sleep was disturbed but mine:confused:I know that was not the right thing to do but I had to get up at 5:45am the next morning:(

UGh.I hate puppy crate training .It took my forever to train my little one. But after a few sleepless nights where I completely ignored her and she would just shushh and go to sleep. ;D
Dont worry though. Your little guy will soon get it :)
How old is he?

Jadasmommie 08-07-2009 04:39 AM

Mimms is 10mths old. We got him from someone who could no longer take care of him. However he was never potty trained he just had free range of the house. So now we are trying to train him to go outside and use puppy pads. Jada never barked that long. How long is to long to let them bark? I pray tonight goes better. I knew that potty training was going to be a lot of work since he was older and used to going were he pleased, but I totally forgot about night time crying and barking:eek:Maybe we will take our walk a little closer to bed time and make it a little longer to get him tired. I bet Jada was like"dude what is your problem shut up and go to sleep I need my eight hours"LOL

That is adorable that your daughter and Mimms bonded so well. I say let them sleep together every night:D If you really want him to be happy in his create at night, maybe you could have your daughter have him take a few naps in it during the day so he gets use to being in there. It sounds like he is getting comfortable sleeping with her and probably doesn't understand why he not with her at night too. Mine sleep with me so I am only guessing. When mine wasn't fully potty trained, they wore a diaper at night, and now I put a potty pad down in my bedroom just in case they can't hold it. You will figure out what works best for your family, hang in there:)

I was a bad mommy . . .I tried the crate thingy with Brody . . .but I couldn't take his "screaming" It really broke my heart . . .I'm a softie and apparently have no discipline . . .:p So he's on the bed . .. when Rhianna came along . . .she saw Brody on the bed and said "ummm hello?? I'm NOT sleeping on the floor . . ." So now we have two heaters that sleep with us . . .thankfully they box my husband in so he gets all the extra heat . . :D

I have one that was/is a barker--ignoring didn't work with her, some nights she was great-others yap, yap, yap!!! She is still a very vocal girl--if she wants something/your holding her sister, she barks(as if to say me too!!) We had her in my daughter's room(who was 5 at the time)and she woke her up. We started putting her in the bathroom downstairs, then Christmas Eve-my hubby said let's take her to bed with us, and now that's her bed too!!! She did good in the bed--if she needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night--she paced the bed to let us know--now she will give you a kiss too. I had wanted this one to be my daughter's, but I am afraid she won't wake up and get her out to use the bathroom. It will get better--or the baby's going to be in the bed, lol!!!

OH dear if you don't listen to it for awhile, he will be free to peeps whenever and where ever he wants. Put him in crate, cover it and do not take him out no matter how long he barks. He will give up when he knows you won't take him out. Good luck and best wishes for your new experiences with Mimms

(Hi guys!)
I never crate-trained Gucci.
I had work shifts when I first got him and so I trained him to go on the pads.
I'm still glad I did this b/c even now it'll be too difficult for me to walk him.
Besides, truthfully, I do not like to walk Gucci.
There are alot of stray dogs on this island and a walk in the neighborhood can spell out FLEAS. Ugh...no thank you.
Gucci sleeps in my bed...there's a good side and a bad side to this but I'm coping.

I got Pixie at 13 months and she was in the breeders basement in large runs and not potty trained. When I put her in the playpen she screamed, not barked, screamed. I couldn't keep everyone in the house up so I put paper and pads all over my bedroom floor and she slept with me and Cali and Maya. She settled down fine. SInce she was 13 months I figured she could hold it pretty good during the night. She never wet the bed. It is hard to get them back to the crate once you give in. Good luck it gets better.

My advice... put a ticking clock beside the kennel, also a t-shirt that smells like you or in this case your daughter to sooth him. In your room run a fan for white nose and you will sleep right through the barking.

this worked out great for us

I wore a tshirt all day and night and the just wore it to bed a couple of nites before we got our bailey, then when we braught him home I held him alot that day and he got the smell. then when we put him in the crate for bed I put the tshirt in with him for the first week and faced t he crate towards my side of the bed where he could see me. He goes right to sleep and we never hear a peep out of him till we take him out in t he morning. We have had him about a month now.:)

milenko did good the first night in the creat and the next night he wanted nothing to do with it.... its probly because he was a puppy mill baby and could not stand to be in that god forsaken thing again he now sleeps with me in my bed and will never be caged up again

Sleeping with dog

We have always sleep with our dogs, so they never keep us awake with their crying. They will usually let you know when they need to go potty, if at all during the night. Mine is both paper trained and out side trained. Our potty papers are where ever there is vinyl flooring. We have a house and also a motor home. Aslo, if we go visit someone, I just lay down papers and let Zeke know where they are and he will use them if he needs them. I have also recently bell trained him. I have a tap bell sitting by the back door that he rings if he has to go out.

I feel your pain...

Hi...

I brought my puppy home this past Saturday. He is 7 weeks old and I know that is way too young but the vet released him and the people i got him from said if it didn't take him i would lose my deposit and my puppy. So against my better judgement i brought him home. He's been doing pretty well with the puppy pads and he will go outside as well but he does not sleep at night...last night he cried the entire night. he wants to sleep with me but he's a tiny 2.5 lbs so i'm afraid. finally around 3am this morning i laid him down with me just so i could get 2 hours of sleep before i had to get up for work. I've got him in a playpen with his bed and pad but he still crys all night long :-(
