Question about Kong
 
I've always been apprehensive about this. How does it work? I see the "cheez wiz" looking can thingy that they sell to spray into the kong. How does it stay inside? I am worried anything semi solid or softer will get stuck in her fur. I bought one Greenie before when she was younger, and it got stuck in her hair while she was trying to chew it. I threw it away and never got another, not even knowing why they are bad. (Why are they anyway, just out of curiousity?)

Not to mention, Kong's are expensive, that's why I've never bought one. $10 bucks for a piece of rubber. Ok they are indestructable I know, but still...:rolleyes:

(really I shouldn't talk, why I keep buying $20 outfits for her that she doesn't wear I'll never know, AND when I make clothes too!):p

im like Darleen im not suppose to have a pet in my apartment but i have Denzel and he never barks he is almost 1 years old and ive probably heard him bark 3 times and thats the truth. Denzel love squeaker toys he has tons of those and can play with them for hours. i buy them from petco they have all different kind of animals Denzel has fish,chickens,shoes,etc he doesn't care as long as it squeaks but Denzel hates balls ive bought him balls and when its playtime and i throw a ball he wont chase it.

You've got to get a Kong toy! My four month old yorkie loves the small puppy Kong! We will definitely be getting her the adult one once she turns 9 months old :)

Haha! Bailey doesn't bark much at all, when he does it is a little bark. The lady on the floor below me has a silky which hardly ever barks. If Bailey did cause problems for neighbor, I would move!

damn those greenies/ GRRR.

yes my louis loved it but he did not enjoy taking it off his chin, paws,legs etc. ugh.. he got really messy and it was a pain to get it off him :thumbdown:(

i have 2 somewhere in my cabinets and not planning to use them >:[

Me too. I have a couple left that I bought as a trial but they are too much mess and I read somewhere they are apperently not very effective or good for dogs....but I'm not too sure about that. Either way, into the garbage they will go.

Treat balls are also great for keeping them occupied. It's a plastic ball with small holes on the sides. There is space inside to insert treats and they fall out if the ball is rolled. I think the Kong company makes a red one - lasts forever (well, until a staffie gets it:()

Cash loves treat balls and he will play much more with those than a kong. I also give them raw bones and hooves as well as organic ostrich chews that I get from a local pet store.

I just want to mention, a completely full treat ball didn't stop Cash from learning to open the fridge!:confused:

What is a hide a squirrel? I'm always interested in something new for them. At our house it's Bully Sticks, and not Merricks, they stink something fierce.

Like I said Baxter is almost 2 and still plays with it. The only bad thing is when they figure out how to empty the stump, you have to keep putting the squirrels back in

kongs are great because they are so durable. You can fill them with the "cheez wiz" type stuff that they sell for dogs (peanut butter flavored, liver flavored, etc), or you can fill them with your own safe ingredients. You can freeze them (messy though when the treat melts!). My pups LOVE them - although they get bored with them now after they get the treat out. It is WELL worth the investment. just make sure to get a Small size so getting the treat out is a challenge.

Okay, I have seen the rubber kong thingy with the holes in it at the walmart here, but I don't get it, wouldn't it make a hugh mess with cheese or peanut butter in it? and wouldn't those products used as a treat give my pup a belly ache?

In my experience, kongs really aren't that messy, because the dogs lick the stuff out. It may get on their mouth hair but that's about it (if you freeze it though there will be a mess). You can also stuff normal treats in there. They make kong stuffin' that are perfect sized treats to fit in the kong (they're hard dry treats made just for kongs). I usually use whatever I have around too, sometimes I'll put a milkbone, bacon treat, little kibble bits, etc in them and the dogs LOVE their kongs.

I bought the bully sticks and was so thrilled to see how Slightly loved it...until he jumped in my lap to lick on me...! Gag! What bad breath he had..unreal...reminded me of the kids story...."I love you my Stinky Face"...so this toy is going to be limited....

We love our Kong! We had a puppy kong when she first came home, but that one didn't last as long because its made for puppy teeth. She now has an adult Kong and that one lasts her longer. We also have the Kong treat ball and a Kong dental stick.

Petstages has a knock-off Kong now that actually looks better than a Kong. Since we already had a Kong, I bought the Busy Bars that were supposed to go in their toy and stuff it in her Kong. She LOVES those! (And there are no bad ingredients for her!)

The treat ball is just annoying. She learned that when she brought us the ball, we would pull a treat out for her.... so now when she wants attention she drops that ball on our lap, or if you're laying down, your head..... Makes a great fetch toy, though, because treats just randomly fall out as its rolling down the hall.....

I suggest you watch your dog with a Hide A Squirrel. Moses loves it, but he gets his head stuck in it trying to reach down to get the last squirrel out! Twice now, he's done this. He just shakes and shakes his head and it won't come off. He only has one front leg, so he can't paw it off. So, he doesn't get to play with it unless someone is home. I don't want him to have his head stuck all day while I'm at work!

If I'm home and nearby I give Bailey bully sticks (especially http://www.westbrookdog.com 's curly ones).

When I leave her alone for a while I leave a variety of entertaining toys that she loves.
She has a puppy kong which I fill with the kong stuff'n.

I just got her a busy buddy bone, which she LOVES, but it doesn't take her long to eat all the rawhide and the replacements are kind of pricey. Busy Buddy Bouncy Bone - Dog.com

Her favorite is probably the busy buddy twist n' treat Busy Buddy Twist n' Treat - Dog.com

And one of my favorites that Bailey also likes is the Talk to Me treatball, which records my voice and I usually just put her dry food in it, but you can use treats too http://www.petco.com/product/108544/...t=OnSiteSearch

When I put peanut butter in Bailey's kong it is pretty messy. Now I stick to the kong stuff'n. It stays in there pretty good until Bailey licks it out. And any that' left inside dries up and I can get it out by tapping it.

Oh I forgot to mention the newest favorites we have discovered (if you can't tell, Bailey is very spoiled ^_^) is look who's talking toys. We bought 3 of them on Amazon for $9-10 each before I discovered that they're only $4-6 on dog.com!
