Why can't you update us???????

Why can't people come back here and give us an update on their babies progress. You come here for advice on all kinds of things but when they are sick and you get all of worried, it is very rude not to come back and at least let us know how your baby is. It just makes me so angry. We just sit here and wonder if they are okay. It only takes a second to say thanks and give a quick update.

We really do care and we really are real people out here.

I know, I worry too and often wonder why people can't be bothered to come back and give a little update after asking for support here.

Mom2TwoYorkies 07-29-2009 10:05 AM

I agree! I'm wondering about 2 specific people who never came back after their dogs had pups . . .Makes me wonder what happened?

chachi 07-29-2009 10:08 AM

I agree! I think alot of people come on here to ask their question get their answers then never come back on.

Gingergirlsmom 07-29-2009 10:09 AM

This is just my opinion, but I think, especially when new people come here and post about a problem, they are frantically searching for answers. They are probably doing lots of internet searching and may even forget they came here once the problem is resolved. I'm not saying its right, just that I can see how it happens.

I joined a pond forum once when my fish were leaping out and committing suicide. Mostly I read, but I did post my question. About 6 people responded, I found a link to a homemade filtering/no chemical process which I printed and copied. Our fish and pond have been healthy for years. Of course, by the time I realized it had worked and gone to find the forum, I couldn't find it anymore. I hadn't thought to save it in my bookmarks, and couldn't remember the name. After a bit, I gave up. Since I wasn't an active, regular participant on the site, I, honestly, had forgotten what it was called. I like to think no one lost sleep worrying about my fish.

sugarmamma 07-29-2009 10:10 AM

Save us all a lot of time checking back for updates too! :)

This is so true! Perhaps the first timers who post once may forget where they posted and can't find it. I know I couldn't find a site I went to before and never went back.

Did you ever figure out why your fish were doing that? I had a japenese fighting fish who leaped out of his bowl and went down the sink years ago lol

Chachi that's what I think happens.:(

cliffick 07-29-2009 10:45 AM

OMG! Are you talking about me?

 If so, my three little boys are doing great! Each one is gaining weight every day. I did have a scare a couple of days ago, one of them was slightly bleeding by his tail where it had been docked. Of course, I rushed him in to the vet's. It wasn't the same one who helped Maggie deliver, so at first she was saying I could separate him from Maggie, bottle feed him, put a collar on Maggie. Yeah, I opted for Betidine on the spot by his tail anfd he's much better now. I take them back to the vet this Saturday so she can check on the little guy who was born with his intestines outside his body. This will be his second check-up for that. The suture has healed up nicely though.
I need to think of a better name for that little boy besides "Suture-guy". ( I know disgusting, but I knew who I was weighing, etc.)
Any suggestions? I thought of Rocky, since he's a survivior, but that's kinda cliche'. !!

coolbar 07-29-2009 11:19 AM

well I guess if they didn't come back, they lost us, so I don't think they will see this post and say sorry.

Their yorkies must be fixed we hope

jmdt 07-29-2009 11:26 AM

You are right we can only hope they are alright. It would be nice to know because we really do care. But if our advice helped then maybe that's why they are not back until next time they need us.

You know I pretty much agree and I think people don't think we worry much about them and think we are just here to answer questions and go on to the next one. But if we ask to let us know I think then it would be nice if they took the time that is if they can find the thread again.

I agree. That's why I made sure I posted Izzy's progress. I was really scared and I had no one else to turn to but YT......

I do like to hear back but sometimes I just CRINGE with the outcome if you know what I mean.

greyacresmom 07-29-2009 04:17 PM

I am so glad that someone else is feeling this also. I have so many times come and checked and they never update us.

One was a lady that lost her dog and they found it. Someone posted that "for her" and she was going to let us know what happened and never heard anything.

The other one was a lady found her dog like 7 months later and was going on vacation and was going to post how things went. Again never heard.

It gets very disappointing. I don't even come to this site as much as I would because there is never any real closure!!

I know I found this site one Sunday afternoon when I could not find a vet open within one hours drive. I was frantically searching for answers and visited probably a hundred sites, some forums, some not. I received many answers to a post here withing only a few minutes, and I did thank everyone when I decided to make the drive to a vet ER. I spent the next weeks nursing her back to health and only focusing on getting her better. If I had not returned, it would not have been due to any unappreciation. I have NEVER been an online chatter until this site. No facebook, myspace, nothing. However, Nancy1999 sent me a direct message and I felt very touched with her sincere concern.
I know we often expect or want updates, but lets not assume the worst of people who come here for help and may not return. We have to be thankful for the opportunity we're given and that we were hopefully able to help. Many of you have been angels to someone with your posts. I mean how many of us have went back and told our teachers, doctors, or angels unaware how they helped us. I too worry about furbabies I read about on here and look for updates. However, I uderstand the feeling of desperation when you are looking for help for your baby, not necessarily a friendship site to join. Thanks to all you YorkieTalkers who do continue to come back and keep this wonderful place going!! I am addicted and will now spend hours on here...and I wonder why this place stays a mess!:p

Great post. I'm glad you stuck around.

Sorry, I am guilty of doing this...just recently, Winston was very ill...I did post asking for YT prayers. But in all honesty, and I hope you all know I do care about YT and all of you, but my mind was elsewhere...with Winston and I do feel I was where I needed to be. As soon as he was finally showing signs of improvement I did come back and update, I know days went by and many of you were concerned. I apologize...but I was with my baby and had no time for chatting. The prayers were appreciated...I was sad, scared and worried for him. Again, sorry for any turmoil I may have caused...

But you DID update. I don't think anyone's talking about you. I'm so happy Winston is doing better.

London01 07-29-2009 07:04 PM

Read the above posts quickly. Here's my two cents

(i) Newbies are less likely to update because
- they can't re-find the site
- their life does not revolve around YT as many of ours (mine included)do :)
- they are not yet familiar with our YT "culture" where it is good manners to post an update
- we scared them off with a few unintentionally harsh reponses that may have been absolutely correct, but not what the OP wanted to hear

(ii) Long-timers may not update because
- didn't like the way they were answered
- just plain forgot, and a gentle PM would probably be enough of a reminder
- they are very busy following whatever advice we gave them, still in the middle of the emergency/issue, and caring for baby has to come first over posting an update to quell the YT ritual worrying

Why is it YT culture to worry so much anyway? I understand we all care deeply about yorkies everywhere and about each other, and caring is a great thing. Worrying however is pretty pointless. The threads where there are more posts of "OMG it's been 2 hours..3hours....3 hours :15 minutes....3 hours : 16 minutes etc...hope the OP and doggy are okay, I'm really worried so I PM'd OP 27 times!" than actual content are quite tedious to wade through to find the actual update.
