Ooooh, I love secrets!! For about 2 seconds. :p What's up?!?!? |
What is it? What is it? What is it? |
someone gonna be smelling the sweet smell of puppy breath?:p |
Oh Geez, I never could keep a secret! Not a puppy - A 4 year old. It is Adie and Skeeter's mother! Our breeder contacted me a while back and told me that she was going to stop breeding and wanted to know if I wanted her. I told her dh would have a fit if I even mentioned it to him. She found Gracie another home but it fell through when the woman lost her job. I had emailed the breeder and told her that we lost Ivan. A few days later she called and asked me if dh might have softened up since I was hurting and then told me that Gracie was once again available. I told her once again that he would say no. When I got home and told him about the offer he acted as if I had accepted and wanted to know when we would get her. Shock! She came over yesterday and brought Gracie with her. It was love at first sight as far as dh went. That little girl had him wrapped around her little paw! So, I have the mamma the daughter and the son. DH said, "thank heaven the father is no longer around or we'd have him too! Hmmmm Gracie isn't in the best of shape right now. She has a classic case of flea allergy and has lost a considerable amount of hair and she needs to be groomed, and spayed but I can already see the pretty little dog she is going to become. I do have a photo of her in my album. It is the first one and it is of her and skeeter the moose when he was a baby. It the best I have right now but I will soon post others! (That was the longest time I have ever kept a secret!) |

You did good keeping this secret!! Congratulations!! I looked at her picture and could definitely see why your DH is so taken with her. She looks so protective of her 'moose'. How are her kiddos liking having her around? That was wonderful that your breeder thought of you and gave you another chance to take her. Can't wait to see more pics after she's all gussied up!! :D |

Everyone seems to be taking the addition in stride. Adie's nose is a little bit bent out of shape but she is getting over it. At first she wouldn't even share the couch with Gracie let alone a lap LOL. Cassie just ignores all three of them. She is that dignified 10 year old shih tzu of mine but she will be washing Gracie's face before you know it. She has mothered every member of the household and I don't think that will change. Gracie is a little scared of the others but joins right in when the group converges on one of us for treats. We found some special treats for her hair that she loves. |

I am a bit disappointed in the breeder for letting Gracie get into trouble with the fleas - I found 5 on her before and during her flea bath. I would never let a dog get into that shape allergy or not. Wylie's Mom gave me some good suggestions for how to treat it and we may have the itching under control all ready. (Thanks Ann) I dug out a little two piece outfit that Adie had out grown and have Gracie wearing it 24-7 so she can't bite and scratch too. She looks a little goofy in it but it is serving the purpose until the pj's I ordered come in. IT doesn't seem to bother her a bit! |
Thanks to everyone for the congrats! It feels so nice! No one will ever be able to take Ivan's place as the gentle protector of his mommy and the little ones but Gracie has certainly taken my mind off of my grief to a pretty large extent. All of my little furbutts along with time will help me heal. And I agree with what some of you said about it being "meant to be." Even the breeder said her best hope was that she would find Gracie a home like ours. |

I'm sure Ivan is watching over you and is thrilled that you found someone to distract you from your grief. |
