Yorkie and Motorcycle Hi, Has anyone had a yorkie on a motorcycle? I want to take my Jasper with me everywhere with me that I can. Interested in know anyone experience. I am going to give him a test ride in a doggy back pack (it goes in the front) around the neighborhood Thanks for any comments or thoughts Pamela722 |
We have a fairly new member on here with a picture of his yorkie with him on a motorcycle.. Larry I think it is.. |
2 Attachment(s) There are several YT'ers who take their babies with them on their motorcycles. We do, and they love it! Just be sure he's securely attached to you, we use the doggy backpacks that you wear on the front too. Get some Doggles to protect his eyes, you know how bad it hurts when a bug hits you, imagine the damage it would do if it hit their eye. They even have doggy helmuts, but DH sorta draws the line there. Boo's the only one who likes going faster then 45 mph, so we don't go on the freeway with them. And you have to drive with an extra amount of caution because of car drivers doing double takes when they see the kids on the bike with us nearly wrecking.:D We've never been out that at least one person wants to take their picture. Gracie Ruth's first ride. She was too small at the time for the Doggles we had, but she has since grown into them. Attachment 285149 Boo & DH Attachment 285150 |
LOL! LOVE the doggles!! We have a Harley also...I tried taking Sadie for a ride a couple of years ago...I put her inside my jacket..she DID NOT like it at all! We didn't go very far but, that was the first and last time she went for a ride. |
I just wanted to say welcome to YT! It's great to have another RI'er here!! |
Muffy and Buddy ride all the time all I have to say is (motorcycle) and they are ready to go. I cant put them in a front pack and drive to much of a distraction so I bought a backpack carrier. We tie it to the back seat so they are safe and Im not distracted. Ill have to get pictures and post them for ya. Good luck!! |
Also, if anyone has any idea to get these "carriers" or whatever it takes to get your dog safely on your bike, can you please let me know? Thanks :p |

another quick question.... i know there is eye protection, helmets, etc. but is the wind damaging to their ears? or is it ok for wind at speeds you would go on a motorcycle for their ears? thanks |
We dont have a problem with it bothering there ears. |
great info, thanks a lot! :):D |
why?:( |
My husband and I really enjoy riding his motorcycle, we are automotive-aholics and the only way we can ride with our dog is in our convertible... which is wonderful, but we'd love to ride with our doggie on the bike. We enjoy it so much and we try to take Ollie with us wherever we go, and share what we enjoy with him. I do not think it is stupid, I think there must be a safe way to ride with him, I just haven't figured it out yet! Thanks for all of the advice, I hope everyone else who reads this thread gets the advice that they are looking for too! :D |

I saw the neatest motorcyle and I'm not a motorcyle person. I thought to myself....wow! hook up alil trailer to the back (show equipment) add a side car for my yorkie and off I'd go.......yeah! I'm dreaming but, it would be so cool. |

Please do not be a kill-joy and rude to top it off. I have been riding since I was about 13. (thats about 32 years) Sure I have dumped it a LOT, but I also learned to RESPECT it. Sometime's a bike is all that you have to ride. My DS does not have a car. He couldn't afford a car. So in a emergency, he would have to do what he has to do. I would rather that someone that MIGHT need to take the bike with the dog start training at a early age. Doggles and GOOD STRAPS a must. Have fun and be careful. |
WOW, tough crowd...LOL. I have to say that we have been riding motorcycles since we were tall enough to put a leg over one. And we love it. I have also know people close to me who have been hurt while riding and a few have lost their life, but that is true of any sport, snowmobiling, hiking, boating, etc. We too have a convertible that Henry just loves and we are trying to work him up to the motorcycles. He is only 13 weeks old but we want him with us as much as possible. We try to stay active, we ride our motorcycles, we kayak, and we like to hike and he will be a part of all of that. One of the reasons that we got a yorkie was because they are small enough to take with us. |
[F are very very dangerous. ALL bikers will have a life threatening experience, its just a matter of time, and [F have a dog onboard to be cute is stupid. I have lost 3 friends, 2 that have trouble walking and 2 that are paraplegic........[F fun and Ride Safe........... [F [F [F I have never took my dog on my bike to LOOK CUTE!! Most of the time nobody even knows I have them with me. I take them with me so that I dont have to leave them home by there self and I can spend more time with them. The other reason is they love it. I also drive a convertible and they love it also, there is nothing like having the wind blow in your face. There is risk in everything we do. |
There is a risk to everything we do. How about those that drive with their dogs in their laps.....or unsecured in the car. Or worse yet, putting them in the back of the truck. How many times have you seen someone in a store with their dogs sitting in the shopping cart unsecured. How many allow their yorkies to jump off off things...... Everything has risk, so the best thing to do is trust that people have common sense and take the necessary precautions. |

:thumbup::thumbup: My husband has a motorcycle and I hate it, I dont let my kids on it let alone my dogs.. however he is adult, he enjoys it and he is careful when he rides... (hes been warned, first screw up I sell it :D).. anyways.. I have seen several people in my small little town with dogs with them on thier bikes and they all have seem to take the nessacary precautions to keep their furbabies safe except for one guy that had his dog standing on the seat with its paws on the handles .. I almost lost it!! Anyways, I agree with the poster above..everything in life has risks and you definitly see alot of animals in worse situations like dogs hanging out car windows while on the highway or big dogs in the back of pick ups...  :thumbdown |

As someone once told me. "You have to live before you die" or Living to die. I wish that everyone had a chance to ride a bike, that way they would know what the bike has to contend with and the amount of thought that goes into every, turn and trying to have 8 sets of eyes. And always thinking ahead. Yes, you will go down as some point, but hopefully it is a minor thing as we all know people who have lost there lives, and friends that are living with the problems of surviving death. Just my 2 cents worth |

I ride hard, fast, but safe. Friends that I ride with teach motorcycle safety classes and one has even wrote a book on the subject. If you haven't taken the basic and advance motorcycle safety classes please do. The below video is a test video "car vs bike" |

Anyways, I think bike's are cool, and I have family members who ride...but after witnessing that accident, I could never do it. Just PLEASE keep your Yorkies safe if you insist on taking them cruisin'. :) |
I have all the confidence that you would do it as safely as possible. Hope your little one loves it. Quote:

1 Attachment(s) This is Henry on his first motorcycle ride, we only took a short ride around and stayed at a very low speed, he enjoyed it as much as the convertible, but will need Doggles. Will keep you updated as we will be getting a different pouch for him for safer riding, probably a backpack because that will be fully enclosed and he won't get as much wind. Attachment 285660 Can anyone tell me to make the pictures bigger to view. Thanks Henry :aimeeyork |
