This is crazy. So many posting about "stupid people" and those supposedly beating up people for terms, when not one post here has said anything negative or mean about teacups, the term or the pups. Some just like to try to drum up drama when there is none. Where is one quote of anyone saying anything harrassing about it in a post or a pm? Craziness!

I have a little adult yorkie and a puppy that is yet to be determined. I love the little ones! I don't have anything against any terms used as an adjective. I do have something against the ide of breeding tinies. That is not just my opinion, but also the opinion of the official breed club, YTCA and every vet I have spoke with. I have to side with the professionals on that. So I think if a person wants to be a professional breeder, they should probably steer clear of risking their tiny lives by breeding them and using the term as a come on. Not because there is anything sinister about the word, but to not send out the red flags that might deter the responsible pet owners you want to attract for your puppies. Besides that, as a puppy, you really cannot predict that they will be a certain weight anyway.

Before coming to YT, I actually thought Teacup was a valid division of the Yorkshire terriers. Since coming here I find that it is not. I also find that the breeders using the term in their ads, often have puppies that are on the larger side! They may say that they will not get over such and such a weight, but there are plenty of owners here on YT to tell you that was not true. I saw an ad for a teacup that was 5 pounds! So, it is not that the term is evil, it is more that it bears no real significance in the responsible breeder's world.

If anyone wants to call their pup a teacup -- no harm in that! I have called mine all sorts of things including the ever popular "rat", especially when they get baths, but always with love. "A yorkie by any other name is still just as sweet!" To greatly parapharse from Shakespeare! :D

i advertise small and so what, it is a matter of preference i have sold tiny, small ,"teacup" a cup s what ever way my loyal customers want to describe their bundle of joy and no complaints all my babies that were placed are healthy small and lovingtheir new family so this is not a redflag this is a myth that smaller is unhealthy well maybe its not the size it could be the breeder do your research before you start these legends please i hope the word gorgeous is not next on the list because i guess that too will be a red flg because that is one word that stays in my post ,and for a darn good reason lol

I don't see how all this arguing came from that. We should all just be happy that she is thankful for all this site has to offer like the rest of us are. :D

I'm just going out on a limb here to try and resolve this whole thing, because that's what i do, i try to please everyone...it always gets me into trouble, but i'm too nice to everyone to be able to not try so here goes:

I think a lot of us must be just bored at work or at home right now, some of us are just trying to pass our days with this thread. Most are very passionate about their dogs, what they know, and what they have learned through personal experiences. Posting information is great!! I would never want anyone to feel that they cannot express opinions and tell what they know, but sometimes when reading posts that are typed and you cannot hear a voice for sarcasm or inflections, you can read into things too much and get all riled up for nothing...i know that i have been guilty of it.

my best advice to try and bring us all back together as yorkie owners and friends is this:

we all love our dogs, it doesn't matter where they came from, how they came to us, or what they look like, we ALL love yorkies in their many colors, sizes, and ways they came to be. so can we all just accept our common bond and the reason we all joined this website and just love each other and be kind to each other and be happy for each others' joy that's been found through our yorkies?? waddya say everyone, let bygones be bygones, move ahead and start a new day and a new attitude??

i believe we can express ourselves and our knowledge in a tactful, polite and loving manner in which our feelings and knowledge will be accepted and taken into consideration. if everyone tried just a little bit harder to think before they hit that submit button, we wouldn't be flying off the handle at someone who is just trying to learn same as well all started out doing. there is much to be gained from a forum like this, much friendship, and knowledge. let's not loose anymore members because of hateful and hurtful things that could have been avoided if someone would have just thought a little more about the way in which they have approached a person's question. name calling, mean things, and hurtful words only make the person saying them look bad and really, are we all that bored today that we can't be more kind??

i suggest a do over, forgive those who have hurt you, and let's all try and bring back that common bond of friendship, compainionship and mutual love for our dogs and each other. we're all yorkie lovers, let that be the bonding factor in all of our difference and not forget it!!

The term "teacup" is generally used by unscrupulous breeders in the Yorkie world. If you pick up a Yorkshire Terrier magazine or book, you will find that "teacup Yorkie" is not an accepted term, as there is no "teacup Yorkie" standard within the Yorkshire Terrier breed definition at this time. There are of course smaller Yorkies, ones as small as 2 or 3 pounds. Thus, we will not allow any for sale threads that state "teacup Yorkie".

We do allow discussion of many topics here, including the word "teacup". We would not suspend or ban members if they wish to use the word or discuss this topic, however, being rude to the YorkieTalk community, or attacking YorkieTalk members in general may result in a suspension or ban.

I understand where you are coming from but again breeders use this word as a way to describe a dog that is under the standard AKC and I dont' see anything wrong with describing you dog.

A lot of people are upset that Delta got banned and for just cause. If you read the posts, she defended herself because many members ganged up on her about the word teacup and as you just said:

What I want to know is how come the ones that ganged up on her were not banned too? They made her defend herself. Please, please read all the posts prior to what she said and you will see what provoked her. Those that provoked her should be punished as well. It's only fair.

I am curious how you handle a member that uses the word teacup on their webpage but when they sell the dogs here on the forum they do not use the word teacup because it is forbidden. Is this allowed? Is someone allowed to post their website if they use the words "we sell teacups".

We ALL know about your advertising. I think that was the subject of many a post and contention before when we discussed breeding 3 pound females and smaller. :hmmm33: Now I know what is going on with the other thread! You can think I am wrong, you can do what you want with your own breeding, but my opinion is that it is not ethical to breed those tiny Yorkies. As I mentioned before, it is an opinion shared by the official YTCA, every responsible breeder I have had the pleasure of communicating with, Yorkietalk's Admin, and too many others to mention. But you are welcome to your own opinion. I won't tell you what to think.

I would also not tell you what to do with your own program, but to tell me I am wrong, is inaccurate. To tell me to "do your research before you start these legends" is ridiculous! Here you go again, trying to tell me what to do and put words in my mouth. I assure you, I have done plenty of research and it is an ongoing project, to never end. Nowhere in my posts did I mention smaller is unhealthy. But then you don't seem to have a problem making things up. And thinking I started the idea that advertising "tinies/teacups/etc" is ludicrous! I love that you think I could have that much clout and originality though! Thank you but, I did not even have a Yorkie back when the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America wrote its pages on: An Important Message about Teacup Yorkies Yorkshire Terrier Club of America (Awards) where they also say:
"(Females weighing less than 5 pounds are considered by most breeders to be unsuitable for breeding.)"
and under Breeders Ethics and Conduct: "A member’s advertising:
- ... shall not use terms as “teacup”, “tiny specialists”, doll faced, or similar terminology. "

So -- I did not start the "legend" as you put it. To continue this grudge you obviously have is immature and not in keeping with the purpose of the forum. :confuse8: I do not understand hating someone who differs in opinion so much that you would post falsehoods in other threads, follow to this thread and again try to say I am saying things that I have not. Makes no sense to me. We can end this on the note that we agree to disagree. You should feel free to continue breeding tiny little females (even 3 pounds and less), and I will choose not to. We don't and can't control what members may write on their private Web sites, nor do we monitor other people's sites. We simply do not allow the advertising of "teacup Yorkies" in for sale ads here. Respected Yorkie breeders would not use the term "teacup Yorkies" to advertise their Yorkies. There are also many books which discuss "teacup Yorkies" and why it is not an accepted term.

We do not discuss suspensions or bans except with the member directly. Calling members names, personally attacking members, or being rude to YorkieTalk or the YorkieTalk community may be reasons a member is suspended or banned.
