Will my babies ears be up or down? When I got Skyler his ears were up (at nine weeks) and now two weeks later there down. I was afraid to shave them so I trimmed the hair around them and cut some hair off the tips and tried taping them but he hates the tape and shakes his head until the tape is off. Which is usually 1 minute. Will they stay up on there own maybe when he gets a little bigger (he only weighs 1.2lbs)? Is there something else I could try? Either way he is the cutest little thing and a keeper for sure.:) |
Try massaging them between your thumb and forefinger. They are probably down because he is teething. |
I'm not sure if they will be up or down, but my Charlies are somtimes up and sometimes their down (more down than up) and hes 9 months. |
Most of the time their ears will be down when they are teething. They should go up when they get older. My Maddie's ears are never up. I got her when she was about 12 weeks old. now she is about 5 month, I had her ears tape. It seems to work a little. But they always go back down after a night of sleep. If you do tape your babies ears make sure you do remove them after 3 days, just re-tape them if they need additional help. |
Thanks everybody for your help. I'm going to try taping them again and see what happens. :D |
If you are afraid to shave or trim the ears, try going to a groomer and have them do it. Piece of cake for them. We took Maggie to Petsmart and got a puppy trim package for $15.99 and had them trim her ears while she was there. |
Trimming the top half of the ears did the trick for our Yorkie. He looked a little funny for a few weeks, but it was worth it. |
When I got my Gabby, her ears were up and so cute. After I'd had her for about 2-3 weeks they went down and I trimmed them, but they stayed down. I didn't want to put her through taping, so I decided she was just as cute with them down. Well, she is 4 months old now and her ears have been standing all the time for about 2 weeks. They started out with just her right ear standing half way up while the left one was still down. Then the right ear stood all the way up and the left was still down and now she has both ears standing on their own. I only trimmed them one time when they first fell and haven't done anything else to them. |
does it matter they look cute either way |
Zsa Zsa is 16 weeks old so I shouldnt worry about them being down...she was holding them up for a couple weeks but during the move they went down.... I thought taping didnt work for very long?? |
Coral's ears were the same way. They were up at 8 weeks when i got her, down a few weeks later, and then one at a time they stood up again on thier own. My parents have her litter mate and her ears were floppy at 8 weeks and it took awhile, but they stood up on their own also. |
make sure the ears are clean, they can go down if they have ear infection. ya they also do go down sometimes if they are teething. my yorkie had one ear that was down for about a month while she was teething and it went back up after most of the baby teeth fell out. i dont think you should worry about taping it. it will go up on its own. |
Ranger's ears were standing up too, until about a week ago one flopped. He is 13 weeks and im pretty sure has started teething. I am hoping that the ear stands back up. If it doesn't i'll be happy though. His dad had one floppy ear too! :) |
I put two empty cardboard applicators in each ear and then taped around them with the surgical tape. I taped them real good but my other puppy helped pull them off. It might be easier for you if you only have one dog and tape real good. I went to Petco and had them shave his ears too because I was afraid and because he wouldn't allow it. Funny, but one fell down after shaving???? My pup has gone up, down, 1/2 up 1/2 down and finally they're back up again...to be cont.. Tape, shave and pray...best of luck!! |
Hmmm, I didn't know ears flopped with teething! Bailey is 13 weeks old Sunday and his ears have been up since about 6 weeks of age, I guess it wouldn't matter to me if they flopped though :) |
