Teddy Bear yorkies? I know you all here at YT have so much information on yorkies. I have just got to ask. I have came across some people that have the teddy bear yorkies for sale. What makes them different? They are to have a smaller cuter face? Does any of you have one? Is this just a way to get more money? |
I have heard that term used also when referring to Yorkies,...and I've wondered the same thing. Someone even referred to my Yorkie once as "a teddy bear Yorkie". From what I understand...they are referring to their faces. The fur on a teddy bear yorkie's face is just fuzzier and fuller than on others that might be more smooth and closer to their skin....slicked down and not fluffy. But I'm not sure that is the only thing that qualifies a Yorkie to be termed a "Teddy Bear". Most all of them look "fuzzy" to me when they are puppies and even adult Yorkies do when they're kept in a 'puppy cut'....which is my fav!~ |
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that "Teddy Bear" is kind of like "Teacup" in that it isn't a proper term when referring to a Yorkie. I think though that it refers to the way their face and nose is. A teddy bear face has a shorter nose that gives them a puppy face even when they are older. Sadie in my avatar has a short nose and I think has what people refer to as a teddy bear face. Like I said - I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong.:) |
Well when i went looking for yorkies to purchase of course they have different looking yorkies. I held a few that actually did look like a teddy bear...the coats were more thicker and had the look and feel of an actual teddy bear. Of course those particular ones was much more money in price. You have the yorkies where the hair looks more fluffy curly like and some where the hair looks thinner or thicker. I assume thats what gives them the teddy bear look. Because my sure statement was when i saw them was "wow he/she looks like a teddy bear" |
Please correct me if I am wrong, I take criticisim well ;) but I was always told a yorkie is a yorkie is a yorkie. You can call them what ever you want but they are still yorkies. Sales people like to add teacup or miniture or teddy bear to the name yorkie to increase profits. I think I would be wary of anyone selling a "special" yorkie. I was told my yorkie was a "Princess Yorkie" heeeeheeheee :animal36 |
While the term "teddy bear" face is frowned upon....it is still a phrase used to describe their head. Small, well set, erect ears, short snout. I personally like the look. |
I honestly think they mean according to the look. Not all yorkies look like teddy bears...they are all adorable but not all look like a teddy bear. |
I think it has to do with their look but I believe that the term is frowned upon, sort of like "baby doll faces" or "teacup" I think a lot of people charge more for them because people desire that kind of face but IMHO it really does not call for a price hike. It makes people think they are getting something rare and therefore should pay more for this "rare" yorkie. Like someone else said, yorkies are yorkies there is no "teddy bear", "baby doll", or "teacups" out there. I hope that helps. By the way, I think Roxy might have a "teddy bear" face but so many baby yorkies do. I think it is just their "puppy look". Good luck with looking for your baby, just please dont get roped into paying more for a "rare (or actually normal)" feature and try to avoid breeders who advertise with these kind of lables. (I wouldn't trust them, I might be wrong though) |

No criticism here.. you are both correct! |
I had a teddy bear yorkie and the difference is that they usually have shorter legs and of course a shorter nose(muzzle) and smaller ears...I also had a male who was not a teddy bear he had much bigger ears a a longer nose..They mated and the puppies were a true cross between the mom and dad..Kati has nice short ears but her nose is short but not as short as her mothers..she also has shorter legs than her father. I am looking for a Teddy Bear now but have not had much luck... do you have any leads? Scarlett also had beautiful full long straight hair. She was a show stopper Keep in touch Karen and Kati |
Both...or all are as cute as can be! 2 Attachment(s) IMO...:D 'Teddy Bear' yorkies look like teddy bears, they usu have longer snouts, erect or floppy ears, large round eyes, usu have longer legs & are usu bigger than smaller yorkies. 'Baby Doll' faces faces have big round eyes, short snout, small face, & small ears & usu small cobby body w/short legs. They're just words to describe a certain look on a yorkie puppy, but some unscrupulous breeders do use those terms to get extra cash. 1.This is Mimi's 1st born daughter, biggest in the litter & I would say she's got the teddy bear face. 2. This is Momo when he was a pup...he was advertised by the breeder as 'Baby Doll' face. |
3 Attachment(s) The girls at my Vets and Groomers say that Chip is a Teddy Bear Yorkie. I always thought it was because he has so much hair. His nose is shorter, his eyes are bigger, and he is a little more chunky (ha,ha,). |

You might want to check out "Build a Bear"... They have beautiful Teddy Bears... :D ... but on a serious note there is no such thing as a Teddy Bear Yorkie, and usually a term used to describe "more money"! |

I had a lady at the vet say, "Oh yours are teacups, mines a teddy bear". I said real innocently, "Oh I thought they were all yorkies " :p I love listening to these people try to educate me on the difference lol. I just sit there with a fake awed expression on my face like i am really learning lol. |
After reading this I decided to try to research Teddy Bear Yorkie. It's hard to find any answers because it always brings up sites of people trying to sell puppies by this name. I did find this one link which was informative and I'm sure most on here would probably agree with the info. teacup yorkies, baby doll, miniature, micro mini, teddybear or standard yorkie puppies do not exist |
Yeah, its just to describe a type of 'look'...Personally i would say a 'Teddy Bear' faced yorkie has a longer nose..a bit like an old fashioned teddy bear, and a 'Baby doll' has a flatter nose and large eyes..a bit like a childs doll i suppose! |

When Suzi was very young she had the teddy bear face. We did not see anything wrong with calling her that. It was cute to say it , to her. My son always referred her to having that "look". I know there is know such thing as having a yorkie as technically having a baby doll face or teddy bear face, it is much like having a tea cup yorkie  I did not spend more money on her for the look though. I did not even know the term exsisted. It was something My son and I picked up on our own, and it stuck. ;) |
iI didn't mean she was a show dog...all i ment was that every where she went people would stop and want to hold her..she was a beautiful yorkie..and was at many public functions and ended up on the front page of the entertainment section of the Albany New York news paper. She also was a therapy dog and had her CGC. She died at 15 and i really want another Teddy Bear YORKIE . Thanks for letting me explain that I didn't mean she was a SHOW DOG. |
