Everyone Confuses My Yorkie With A Silky! I actually had a lady argue with me the other day that Gucci is not a Yorkie but a Silky based on his color and the way his hair feels and looks. I was like no, Gucci is a Yorkie as were his parents....whether there is Silky some where in his bloodline I don't know as I wasn't there when they all mated, however Gucci I am certain of. She said well the breeder lied to you  Now I'm thinking, WTF woman, what are you a "wrongful informed Silkies that aren't yorkies" vigilante or something  I was starting to get mad and at one point had a couple of rude comments, not b/c what she was saying but b/c she kept insisting and argueing. Some people simply have no tact! I've watched the dog shows and I see Yorkies with Gucci's color all the time! As a puppy Gucci was tan and salt and pepper colored. He never had a "black" coat. You could always see the "white" in his black coat...people would even ask me if I dye his hair (like WTF!) I don't really know what's the difference between Yorkies and Silkies as they do look alot alike but from what I read apparently Silkies have a longer "snout" As a matter of fact there are quite a bit of Yorkies in here with Gucci's coat color. Here are a couple of pics...what do you gus think: This is him as a puppy (his favorite place on the computer desk) and the salt & pepper color I mentioned before. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...OnTheComp6.jpg This is my baby when he had a long coat. I try to keep it short now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ucciDeauv3.jpg I love this one cos he looks like he's smiling...LOL http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...i/DSCF1248.jpg |
your baby is so cute, and looks like a very cute yorkie to me! :animal36 |
Gucci is STUNNING!!! I am jealous of his gorgeous coat!! That lady needs a smack!! Gucci looks alot in the face like my moms yorkie, but her's is way darker. I just love how light he is, he is a beauty and looks like a total yorkie to me!!!! :D |
The only thing that would make me think that your dog may have something else in his blood is the fact that he was black and tan as a pup. Maybe he does have something else in his bloodline...but so freakn what! He's a cutie, and I see Yorkies that color all the time! I would think he was a yorkie (i'm no expert) but she is a b**ch for arguing with you about YOUR dog. Some people get so tied up in those sorts of things and forget that the dog is someone's pet that they love. Its not like you were at dog show for crying out loud. How would someone like it if they were questioning her ethnicity and telling her she is something that she knows she isnt. People are so rude. I would have cussed her out for arguing with me about something as stupid as a dog's breed!!!!! |
He is beautiful!! |

Gosh, I just want to pick him up and love on him! He's such a cute yorkie and all shiny!! |
re: everyone confuses my yorkie with a silky! What the heck is with all these people thinking that they know your dog's breed better than you? I get a lot of people who ask if mine are yorkies, but I think they're just doing that cause they are obviously a terrier, but if you don't know yorkies, you may not know...i guess. For someone to come out and say "no, your dog isn't this, it's this" is just rude! I'm sorry that someone would do something like that. Yours looked quite a bit like my Tank, though Tank is darker, but I have seen quite a few the exact same color as yours. Good luck to you :) |
Looks Yorkie to me! I'm sorry the woman was so rude! Handsome little Yorkie too!! |
I wouldn't let it bother you. Just tell them, "Of course he's not a yorkie! Can't you tell, he's a German Shephard, silly!" ;) No use trying to explain anything to people who think they know a breed or several. :) |
all i can say is maybe your dog is part human because i have never seen a dog smile like that before!!!!!:p My yorkie is the same color, people are surprised when i say hes a yorkie and also ask if i dye his hair! |
The picture in your avatar looks Just like a silky But the pictures you posted looks all yorkie. |
LOL...thank you ladies. I do love my Gucci....regardless of whether he has cat or bear in his bloodline...LOL. My whole thing is that she kept arguing with me which had me kinda thinking to myself, are you kidding me... mybabe88: No, he wasn't tan and black he also had white in his black coat...well it looked white but in reality it's the silver already coming out (you can see it in the first pic) bjh: I got Gucci early (I think at 8-10 weeks rather than the 12 most breeders wait) b/c I flew to get him and he was my Valentine present from my boyfriend (RIP). And even at that age you could already see the "silver" on his head (which is now tan) and in between his coat. He was the most adorable little thing. Didn't make one sound on the plane ride....flight attendant went crazy and kept gushing over him. I slept with him all the time b/c he looked so sad....took a week off to train him and get him costumed to his surrounding. I pad trained him too b/c I use to work shifts so I know walking him was out of the question. When I went back to work, I'd come home and Gucci is no where to be found. I got so scared I started calling him like a mad woman when finally I saw my bedskirt move and he'd pop out his head. I thought, everything is going to be ok....LOL Pfff...if I'd only known all the grief he'd give me...that little rascall...hahahahaha. Here are some more pics of his coat and the cut I try to keep him with: Good shot of his back: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...i/DSCN0012.jpg Puppy cut: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...97523_2259.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...79479_7362.jpg |

He steals my floss! Whenever I am flossing and he "hears" it his ears shoots up and he comes flying to me and literally steals it out of my mouth if I let him! So that was one of those days when I gave him one of my floss thingy and he started to play with it. I took a number of pics and that was one of them. I guess he wanted to show me he has a healthy smile cos he flosses...LOL Gucci flossing: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...i/DSCF1243.jpg |

Gucci looks Yorkie to me and I am the proud owner of a Silky that people are always referring to as a Yorkie! I am now past the point of correcting people or getting into a "discussion" with them. |
I think one of the most obvious differences between silkies and Yorkies are the head. I have copy and pasted the standard for the silky head and the yorkie head. You can see how that describes a much different shape. Silky Head The head is strong, wedge-shaped, and moderately long. Expression piercingly keen, eyes small, dark, almond shaped with dark rims. Light eyes are a serious fault. Ears are small, V-shaped, set high and carried erect without any tendency to flare obliquely off the skull. Skull flat, and not too wide between the ears. The skull is slightly longer than the muzzle. Stop shallow. The nose is black. Teeth strong and well aligned, scissors bite. An undershot or overshot bite is a serious fault. Yorkie Head Small and rather flat on top, the skull not too prominent or round, the muzzle not too long, with the bite neither undershot nor overshot and teeth sound. Either scissors bite or level bite is acceptable. The nose is black. Eyes are medium in size and not too prominent; dark in color and sparkling with a sharp, intelligent expression. Eye rims are dark. Ears are small, V-shaped, carried erect and set not too far apart. Yours is all yorkie! I cannot believe why that woman thought it was any of her business anyway! I liked your description of her "a "wrongful informed Silkies that aren't yorkies" vigilante " Sounds like someone who just wants to be an expert voice without really studying up on anything. BTW -- that is a beautiful shine on your Yorkie's coat -- says someone is taking great care of her! Gucci is living up to her name -- a classy girl! |
I can never tell the difference lol. Here's a pic of a Silky according to Google, http://terrificdogs.files.wordpress..../04/silk12.jpg |
He looks Yorkie to me, and a cute one at that! |

Bottom line though, if it is my dog and I say it is a hippo, it still would not be some "lady-that-I don't-even-know's" place to tell me it is not. |

I do take very good care of his coat. I want to start grooming him myself but I am afraid I'd butcher him :( I am now using the Allergy-proof shampoo but I use either garnier or that orgasmic product conditioner....remember the one that came out with a woman who'd have an orgasm while washing her hair....I don't remember the name. I use to use all dog products but they ones available here are really low quality and have that certain "dog" smell and after that whole no liquid on board ordeal I stopped bringing it from the US unless I am checking in a bag. |
I do not understand why anyone would mistake your Gucci as anything BUT a Yorkie! He is very hansome. My Suzi has the excat same colorings right now! She is only 15months old. Looking at the pictures of his back, looks liks my Suzi! However, she has more of the silver blue on top of her head and ears right now. It's is funny how some people think they know everything about dog breeds, and are still wrong:rolleyes: |
