He's not barked yet..!!! Well the pup is 14 weeks old and very quiet...voice wise that is...He hasn't barked at all yet..and hardly even whimpers at all....He does get very excited when playing but not much noise there either..just still a bit of nipping..but checking that. So I wondered if this "No Barking" was unusual? I have had several Yorkies in the past..and all of them were barking madly by about 11 weeks old.... Mind you...it does make for a quiet life..but a bit unusual..or is it? Chrisann. |
enjoy it! |
Count your blessings...says the woman typing to the sound of bark, bark, bark, bark. |
My girl Sadie did not bark at all for the longest time. We wondered if she even had a bark. Wound up she did, just did not use it much. Even as an adult, she rarely barked. Now my male Ben, that is another story. He has one of those shrill, piercing barks that some days drives me crazy. Luckily he will stop when I get stern -- except for when the squirrels are teasing him. |
You are blessed, as am I....I had the same concerns about Apple, at that age...She never barked, didn't cry when I left her in the kitchen at night (in her little bed)...She since has the kitchen/dining room/den and entry hall, all the time..About 5 months, she starting letting out a teeny little bark, if something startled her...She's now 7 1/2 months, and barks everytime someone comes to the door, or if she thinks she hears something out of the ordinary, at night, but still doesn't wimper or cry....I feel I am so lucky, as yorkies have a bad reputation for barking, but not mine :D...Now one little habit that I don't find amusing, is when I'm about to go out the door, to work, she has started growling at my feet, and pulling on my pants leg, trying to stop me lol....That's the only time I hear her growl...Bless her heart, she just wants me to stay home w/her, instead of going to work...But I have to work to buy our "stuff"... lol.... |
cash didnt bark for a while and when he finally did everyone thought it was sooo cut and would encourage it and now HE WONT STOP ! soo hopefully your little guy is a quite one! |

This is a blessing! Pasquale didnt bark much when he was little and even now, he only barks when someone is coming to the door. Otherwise...nothing. And i love it! When he does start to bark...dont encourage it. Just let him bark when he wants to. |
It took a long time before Samson found out he had a bark, now he barks when things startle him or to let me know he needs out the back door. Harley just recently found his bark and only barks when I leave the back yard through the gate to let me know he is not happy with me leaving him there. He never really barks in the house. Neither one are excessive barkers |
I've had wait. A barker and a non barker. On the other hand I had one that didn't bark until he got around other dogs that used their voices regularly and then he never stopped...LOL! ;) |
Tia took along time to find her voice too. When she did it was so funny , I think she scared herself lol. She hardly barks at all now, mainly through play. |
Oh, enjoy it while it lasts. It took Sadie a year and now she thinks she is my guard dog. We live in a condo, so you can just imagine the barking. |
LOL...I came in to tell you to enjoy it while you can but I see many have already beat me to it. I always assumed that dogs were "born" knowing how to bark and thought my Gucci was so "quiet" and such a good boy....until her learn how to bark. Now I can't shut him up! Ugh. It's fine, but Lord at times I wish he'd only bark on command...:rolling eyes: |
Prince was the same way. I thought he would never bark or make a peep. Until no one was home and I was leaving and I had to put him in a crate. It took him about 1 minute and he was barking like crazy..... I'd say just enjoy the quiet lol |
Missy was this way too. She's still very quiet. She only barks if she truly thinks there's a reason, such as if she hears something or someone out of the ordinary. Even then, it will only be a bark or 2 until I say "it's ok Missy". :) I think every dog is just different. Our pug dog is a yapper. You'd think that Missy would have picked it up from her, but Nope. Thank goodness! |
