On the one hand he is sooo young to have been placed. On the other, you can get him to train early. When you put him in th expen, keep a pad, if he tears at it use a washable one, if possible on a pad holder, so the puppy does not play with the pad.
With Zander, I would take him out of the crate every .50 hour, he was 3 months,.... within a few days I went to every hour and continued to move it up....I would take him outside, I read that you should name the #1, so as he is going #1, I would say, good boy, pipi, good boy, and immediately give him a treat, it can be .50 of a cheerio. I would do the same with #2. I would give him a few minutes, so he would understand pipi first then play. If he didn't produce back into the crate, if he did he would get play time. When I was off to work, he would stay in the bathroom with a pipi pad, bed & toys, I had to get him cloth pads anchored to a pad holder. If he is in an xpen, pin the pad underneath one of the sides of the xpen. This is how Zander learned to use the pad as well, he only uses it now if he just can't hold it. Even now if he tries to hold back and not go #1 when I take him, we walk back to the door, then back to the grass, he then gets it that we are not going in until he goes tinkle.
With Jazzie I just kept her leashed to me, put a bell on the back door, showed her how to smack it when she had to go outside, I would smack it and say pipi outside, give her a cheerio for smacking it, go outside, etc.

Being persistant is what I noticed works. If the dog is going #2 in the crate I get the feeling it might be his morning poo. I remember setting the alarm clock at 5:30 am just to take Zander outside to poo & pi, I knew his sleep was lighter around that time so I wanted to make sure he understood that this stuff is done outside. I read that when they are 5 months or younger, take them out of the crate, hold them in your arms, then put them on the grass, since they are so young and don't hold it as well they could tinkle on the way out :).

Be patient, keep up the good work and you will feel very proud of your furbaby once he is potty trained. :thumbup:

I hate when people rub a dogs nose in urine. I mean would you do that to your toddler when he or she is potty training. Its disgusting and mean! Me and my pittie both worked hard to housebreak him. We stayed consistent and went outside about every 30 mins :D felt like every 10 but he sure did catch on fast.

My Morkie has the whole kitchen! pee pads and water and small bite dried food 24/7 treats are always available form us too! he runs wild when we take him out so I know he is getting enough food. I couldn't lock him in a crate or pen ever!

well maybe the breeder thinks he s a gremlin.lol .no really please make sure the puppy has water its crucial.

If you look up exercise pen you will find several sites showing what they look like and their price. A small puppie's bladder is too small to hold it all night. I think one of mine slept thru the night for the first time at three mos. and all night was from about 12: am to 5:30 am. Even then it wasn't every night from then on. My little one is 7 mos and she still gets up in the night. I do have her and pee pads in a xpen so she can relieve herself and I can sleep. Plus I keep food and water out for both of them 24/7. For goodness sake, please don't stop feeding that baby at 5:00. I'm truly surprised you haven't already had trouble with her sugar
going too low.

We don't mean to jump you, but the things you have said are dangerous and we don't want anything to happen to your puppy. There is a lot of info on potty training on here, so read read read and best of luck to you. Ask anything you need to ask, someone here almost always has an answer, and keep us posted on your progress.

I too have a brand new 9 week old yorkie male and 8 week old morkie male. Having a time
to potty train them. I want them trained on the potty lawn, Because come cold weather I can't be trepsing out in the 6am in freezing cold weather. I have fibro the cold hurts bad enough having to go outside will make it worse.So when i read about these potty lawns. I jumped at the idea. Sometimes they go on it sometimes they don't I don't know how much is too much to feed them.I read in one area your supposed to free feed them up until 3 months old. Because yorkies are prone to low blood sugar.That scares me.the breeder even gave a needle with sugar water to take with us home with him.I don't remember how much i would have to give him either. what r the symptoms? i don't know which it is to feed him. One site saids one thing another site saids another.My husband is having a fit about me free feeding. I am at my wits end with listening to everyone with all the different Ideas. I just wish i could get some truth. And what to look for if he does get low blood sugar. The whole situation just makes me cry.
