So why is one off color considered an anomaly and another off color not an anomaly? Why is one color anomaly accepted and another color anomaly chastised? |

Until recently, black/gold WAS recognized by AKC and allowed into the ring. The specifics you have mentioned...the running gold, the darker points, etc (in addition to many other "anomalies") can be produced in trying to achieve the standard. In contrast, they can also be used in breeding to produce the standard. However, in regards to partis, goldens, chocolates, something other than the standard is purposely being bred and reproduced. Either dogs meet the standard, or they don't...not a lot of room for gray areas. I guess the difference is...why they don't meet the standard. Because they were purposely bred that way, or not? |

In order to show in conformation a yorkie has to follow the standard set by the YTCA and the other colors do not fit that standard. They aren't treated any differently they are considered pet quality and should not be bred if you are going to breed to the standard. I have black, I have silver yorkies but they aren't bred because they do not fit the standard and are considered pet quality. I guess if you don't show you are not going to understand that we have to follow what is set forth by the YTCA or take a chance and get that DQ. I think all yorkies are pretty whether they are black, parti, brown ect....but I do show so therefore I will follow what is set forth by the YTCA :) |

IDK for certain, since I didn't make up the standard, but my guess would be that slight variations of tan and blue are just that, slight variations. Whereas chocolate, gold and parti colors are very obvious deviations from the the YTCA accepted colors and shouldn't be bred according to their guidelines. |
I have a chocolate yorkie. I just fell in love as soon as I saw him, I think they are absolutely beautiful. Part of what interested me most was that he looks like a yorkie, but still looks different than most yorkies. I don't care that his coloring is a fault or an anomaly or whatever. He is AKC registered. He is such a sweet puppy. I will not be breeding him, as soon as he gets big enough I am getting him spayed. If you would like to see a picture, he is in my album. |

The YTCA sets the standard for AKC. As with anything genetic you can have a throw back whether it be color ect...just as in humans...it's just that a dark steel blue and tan is the color for the standard in the yorkie anything that is deviated from that is considered "pet" quality and should not be bred but put into a loving pet home and loved :) I'm not saying Parti's are not a pretty dog it's just not what the standard calls for in the Yorkshire Terrier. Knowing what the standard calls for is what you should be achieving...and it calls for the dark steel blue and tan....I don't breed for any other color than what the standard calls for just like I wouldn't breed anything that had a genetic health issue. |
