Is my sweet baby a Yorkie??? I took Harley to Petsmart Saturday to have him groomed and had 2 people ask me what kind of dog he was???? One lady asked me if he was mixed. This is not the only time this has happened. Its happened several times when I have took him out. Its upsetting because he is suppose to be a full blooded Yorkie. I did not actually purchase him from a breeder....he was rehomed due to someone moving to an apartment. I love him regardless and think he is the cutest thing on earth.... but of course I do! I would like to get some opinions to see if others think he is Yorkie. He looks like a yorkie to me. :) You can never be 100% sure without papers, of course. I think people might be getting thrown off by the floppy ears, since most people train the ears to stand upright. I think he is adorable just as he is. |

Awww, he looks all yorkie to me and cute as a button. What a sweetheart! Being mommy to two "far from standard" yorkies I have found that LOTS of people question what they are. Don't let it get you down. |

:thumbup::thumbup: Yep! He's a Yorkie ... and an adorable one, I might add! :) Believe it or not, there are people out there who don't recognize a lot of breeds, Yorkies included. :rolleyes: I have had a lot of people ask me what breed my Toto is. ;) |

I did get papers with him but his papers have never been mailed in. I was wondering if it was the floppy ears throwing people off...I just like them floppy because he looks more like a puppy. |

Looks like a proper Yorkie to me. Size isn't an indication. I've had three. My first Benji, was tiny when we got him, he fitted in the palm of my hand. He ended up being 12lb despite having an uncle who was a champion and had his pic in a book of yorkies! Oscar is 7 months old and weighs 12lb's already. Poppy is 8 weeks and 1.17kgs (2.5lb ish) and we've no idea how big she'll be. To be honest, we don't really care. As for ears, neither benji or oscar's ears stuck/stick up. We don't care about Poppy's ears either way. More important to us is that they can manage a 45 minute walk thro the local woods evry day . BTW, he looks like a little star :) |
He is so cute! I think he looks Yorkie, and I love the floppy ears on him. It really does make him look puppy-ish. |

Your Harley is cute as a button. As you will see here on YT there are all sorts of looks for a yorkie. Most people have in mind the yorkie standard and do not realize there are so many deviations. They should be bred with meeting the standard as goal, but many breeders look for quantity instead. Being bigger than the "under 7 pound" standard, having floppy ears instead of perky upright ears, having a large muzzle, too long or too short of legs, etc.... does not affect how loving and entertaining they can be. Your Harley might not meet the standards, but it looks like he exceeds the loving factor! Sometimes the registery is a factor too. Some of the offshoot registeries like APRI, ACA, CKC (Continential Kennel Club) wind up with dogs thta are a little further from standard than AKC. Even AKC is not a guarantee though. |
