morkie's fur colour! Hi! :) i am new to YorkieTalk. :) I may be getting a morkie puppy on the weekend and these are the colours they have - black, light brown, chocolate brown. I think all of them are amazing dogs but one problem, i know it is hard to tell because it is a hybrid but will the color fade to a blueish colour like yorkies? we used to have a grey dog and my family and i do not like to get similar looking pets as what we used to have. we like to have new things! the puppy was a shihpoo and she was brown when we got her and faded to grey. If anyone has a morkie in black, light brown or chocolate brown can you please show me a picture of your adult morkie? that would help so much! thank yoou!:D :love:God Bless~ ps- i know the puppy will not look the same but i have an idea |
Hello and welcome! I think it would be hard to predict what an adult morkies coat would look like they are all so different from the next one |
Welcome to YT!!!!!! I know nothing about morkies except that they are cute:) |
Welcome! My lil one is a morkie. She started off really dark gold and has become very blonde now. You can look at my album to see the before and after. |
1 Attachment(s) Hi your very close to me, I am in Windsor!! I don't have a morkie but I would assume that the closer the coloring is to a yorkie the more chance it will fade to look more like a yorkie coat. I had a yorki-poo before and she had chocolate brown/light brown as a pup. And she got really light as an adult, I can share a picture just to show you an idea of what yours MAY look like, of course this is a different mix. now I miss her seeing her picture :( |
I would choose black :) But mostly I would pick the one with the cutest baby face LOL |
2 Attachment(s) That is really a hard one to call. Here is a picture of my Morkie Beau at 12 weeks and then from the other day at 1 1/2. I would not have thought that he would lighten up as much as he has. His brother was more of a blonde color and he has stayed pretty much the same color with a little bit of white streaked through here and there. :) |
morkie coloring my morkie is 5 months old now and has already started changing colors. when we first got her, she looked more like her yorkie mom. however, now she has really light-whitish gray hair on her face and head. she looks like an old grandpa. as everyone else says tho, it will depend on your pup. it's really hard to tell until it happens. |
Welcome to YT! |
I would have to agree with what everyone else has already said.. I do believe if you choose any color but black or white the pup will probably go through a color change. I have a yorkie poodle mix and he was dark brown with light blonde mask around his face and by the time he was 4 months old he had gone compeletly blonde and has stayed that color since. My purebred toy poodle was black with a silver mask when we got her and she is now light cream with blue blended through out her coat with black, red, cream and silver ears. Its interesting to see them change and become different colors..:).. Im sure your new pup will be beautiful regardless! :).. congrats and welcome to YT... |
All of the morkies are beautiful too! |

Sunshine looked like a lil Rottie when he was a couple weeks old . Now he is all Yorkie , I think they are "like a box of chocolates ..........." |
Our morkie started off very dark just like a yorkie. She has really lightened up. She is not grey though. She is a nice blend of cream, brown/tan and black. Like a yorkie they go through an amazing transformation. I would pick by personality and if you like up or down ears. Down ears will be really folded and far to the sides of the head. I think body proportions are important too if you want a good looking dog when they mature. Shorter snout and slightly turned up, eyes closer to sides of the head, and legs and back generally forming a square. Our morkie has a slight underbite. As a baby she looked like a smiling Teddy bear. She still looks like she is smiling. Her coloring is still lightening on the top if her head as well. |
Welcome to YT! :) |

I have a morkie and he is mostly black with some tan on his legs and mouth. he does have a brown spot above his butt. he is more maltese than yorkie but he has some yorkie coloring. also his fur is definitely maltese as well. |
Question about Morkie Pups. Hi, I am new to this website. I am purchasing a morkie for my fiance, and the female that I have chosen is Black and gold/brown. The other pups in the litter are all black. I believe there may be a white streak on one or two of them. Is it normal for Morkies to be solid black? If not, what does this mean? Is this the result of the morkie not having purebred maltese and yorkie? Or is it normal to have solid color morkies? The puppies are also not going to be AKC registered. Is this something I should be concerned about. Possibly the puppies not purebred? I would greatly appreciate any input and help to my question. Sorry for posting this on your post. You guys were talking about morkies. Figured it wouldn't hurt. Thank you! |
Mixed breed dogs are not allowed to be registered by the AKC, it's a pure-bred registry. As for the coloring, it's going to be impossible to tell you what the adult dog will look like, as mixes can look like either parent or anything (and everything) in between. |

Thank you very much for your input and information. After asking this question, I actually googled it and learned this. Also several other kind folks informed me as well. Thanks for taking the time to help. Aaron |

To the OP: I have no idea about coat colors in Morkies, but they are adorable, anyway:) I would choose the puppy from their personality, at any rate, but that's me. Good luck!!!! |
when we adopted Peanut she looked 100% yorkie..now at 8 months..she's 100% blond! this pic is of my yorkiepoo not my morkie |
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I am also a new mom to a 12 week old Morkie ( Bentley) I was also wondering about fur color change. I have had him for 2 weeks and already the top of his head has gone gone from jet black with a silver under tone to being brown with a silver under tone. The rest of his body has not changed in color. his body is black and his paws are tan with black streaks and white tips. His chest and under his chin is white.. he is so cute only weighs 2lbs |
Sophie and Ziggy are Morkies. They are three years old. Sophie's color didn't change much but Ziggy's totally changed! |
Ohhh My Gosh, They Are Cute!!!! I just Love Morkies!! :) |
It is hard to say with a puppy. Even purebred Yorkies go through color changes as they mature. My Shih Tzu was black and brown and white as a puppy and ended up white with a little gold on the ears when he grew up. Look at the roots of the puppy's fur. If you see a lighter shade at the roots there is a good chance that as the puppy's fur grows out the color is going to lighten. |
