Pebbles ate a grape :eek: How toxic is a grape Pebbles is 4lbs and ate a grape well half of it until I grabbed it from her Mouth. Should I be calling the vet is it as toxic as chocolate? Please help. |
I would call a vet and see it can cause kidney failure. I dont know how much with a yorkie so small. You could give her some hydrogen peroxide to make her vommit it out if your uuncertain |

Please do not panic. The second post has a poison control hot line and I would give them a call to see what they think. It was only half of a grape and the article says that large quantities can be toxic. Several canine caretakers wrote in to say that they would no longer give their pets the occasional grape or raisin as a treat. "There are many people who have decided to do the same thing," responds Richardson, "but no one has reported poisoning from their pets ingesting the occasional single grape or raisin. The cases we have received involved ingestion of 2 ounces to 4.4 ounces." Please let us know what they say and how your little guy is doing. |
I just can't believe my terrible luck today.:( This morning Pebbles got a grape and I grabbed it from her mouth and I was scared so I posted this thread. I was so nervous that I even phoned my vet, she said she would probably be O.K but might have a bit of diarrhea. I calmed down then, and took my children to the park with the dogs. When I was at the park I was taking some pictures of the kids and when I looked down I seen Pebbles eating raisins :eek:some kid must have dropped. So this time I did not phone my vet I rushed right over because it is in walking distance for me thank goodness!! I think Pebbles probably ate one or two raisins but do not know for sure. Again the vet said she will probably be O.K. just to keep an eye on her and if she starts to vomit bring her back in. I hope she is going to be O.K. and this thread will not go any further except to say she is fine, I have my fingers crossed. I love my Baby so much. |
Wow! :eek: I think you need to go back home, close all the blinds, turn off the lights and go back to bed and start this day all over again. :p |
She should be absolutely fine. I think it's when dogs eat raisins, grapes, chocolate, etc in large amounts that it will seriously hurt then. My aunt used to own a Rottweiler who got into a whole tray full of chocolate fudge and ate the whole thing while nobody was home (he opened the cabinet door and got into it!) and he was absolutely fine. He pooped more than usual that day but that was it. Granted, he was 100+ pounds but just saying. As long as it was just one or two.. they should be fine. |
Oh yes I do agree that I should have come home closed all the blinds and went back to bed. Lol :) |

When I first started taking care of Thor, I didn't know grapes could be bad for dogs and actually gave them to him as a snack! He ate a couple and then decided he didn't like them. I don't know if that was his natural finickiness coming into play or if he knew he shouldn't eat a lot or what. Anyway, he was completely fine. He is also 4 lbs. |

I know when Roxie was a puppy I didn't know grapes were bad. I had given her a little bit of them on a couple of different occassions. Nothing ever happened thank goodness and once I learned they were bad for her I never ever gave her any again. I'm surprised she didn't even have loose stools from it. I've heard that it all depends on the dogs tollerence as well. I'll never take the chance again though. Walking on the safe side is a much happier place to be. Glad your baby is ok!! |
